Why did you bring Asian shop signs in this argument? I haven no idea. I only remarked it in my post to acknowledge the existence of the issue.
After reading your previous posts, I see that you are trying to paint an association between FOBness and your argument using Asian signs lol? okay...
Calm down buddy, I never presented my post as facts, it is a post on a starcraft forum in a discussing thread about a Korean's racist issue when none of us lives in Korea >.<
I've said this before, take my post anyway you want, there is no need to resort to name calling. I've noticed that you've got a headache so you are probably not in the best state of mind right now, let's call it a truce and move on? I've got 3 beers left in my fridge and I intend to finish that before dinner
(Take random guy's advice on responding in moral highground fashion fighting~~)

I've got 3 beers left in my fridge and I intend to finish that before dinner (Take random guy's advice on responding in moral highground fashion fighting~~) The Asian sign thing was to point out that the same people who have their shops written only in Chinese try to segregate themselves from people different to them. The Asian sign thing in a country whoss main language is English is analogous to your quote written with Chinese characters in a forum whose main language is English.
If I were a journalist wanting to report on the recent racial relations between Greek ands Italians, that Chinese shop down the road with a sign written only in Chinese characters is the last place I would go. Why? Because they probably have no clue about racial issues affecting Greeks and Italians because they live in their own little bubble.
This is what I was comparing to you. The same people who live in their bubble and who have only Chinese letters written on their shops, located in CANADA, are probable eerily similar to you. Neither, you or them, have any merit when making claims and generalizations about groups of people.
Even though I have a migraine, I feel my thinking is more clear than yours. I'm probably biased, but hey.

There wasn't a need to win any argument, it was already won when you kept posting. I was just tired of you responding even though deep down inside, you know you're wrong.
I think the topic has been derailed enough, though, so I'll leave it at that.

Deep down inside, I feel warm and fuzzy
I maybe wrong, but only in the sense of political correctness.
Chill out buddy, my posts are half troll, half serious to begin with.

God, why can't we go back to being prejudiced against protoss players. They are truly the lowest life in the universe!
Personally, I think it'd take a strange kind of person to not form judgments based on color of skin..... or clothing, looks, height, weight, muscle density, apparent health or choice of video game. Not all of it is fair, nor is it necessarily accurate, but you bet I'll damn do it unless I have a better source of information. (including interacting with the person)
Right now I'm in Taiwan, and if I see a middle aged south asian, I'm going to think "foreign worker", if I see a young south asian around a school I'm gonna think "crazy hard working student that jumped through the hoops to get here", while if I spot a white I'm gonna think "some lazy dude that couldn't get into a good school in their own country, or strange 'go on a culture tour' guys that chooses a rather...unexciting designation (from my perspective). If I see a formally dressed white folks out on the streets waiting for something, I get a 0.1second religious solicitation warning signal.
I don't think "genetic background blindness" is necessarily a good thing when it allows for fast and "better than completely random" guesses in absence of more info.
That said, just because I have an guess doesn't mean I think I can or should treat any of them like jerks, or treat guesses as anything solid. Even if you know someone definitely have bad manners or is annoying or whatever, there is still no reason to hate or display contempt unless it serves a function. There is no point unless it is very personal, and acting like "an agent of the greater society" is just stupid. I think the biggest threat is the failure to self reflect on one's identity or have empathy.
I put myself to love and hate individuals, not a statistical category. -------------- Oh, about the "Chinese signs in a English speaking country" thing, it is an active signal to tell English speakers not to come. This might be strange to logical thinkers that thinks of the profit, but I remember when my mom first went to Canada and knows no English. Forcing her to speak is like a massive ordeal that is stressful, embarrassing and downright scary. I can totally imagine some shopkeepers want to prevent that situation from happening in the first place.
As for those that talks about learning a new language. Not everyone can learn a new language at 50. (look, some people are dumb) ------------------------------------------------

Another thing about those Asian shops is that most of them are run by immigrants who are either too old or don't have the economic/social resources to pursue a full integration into the society.
and it's not like if they decided to interact more, the natives will welcome them with open arms.
I don't think it's a conscience decision on their part to exclude others. It's more like that most of their customers are also immigrants from their own background who find it more welcoming if the signs are in their own language. For some of them, going to another shop can be a bit intimadating.

Well, Allot of Chinese say the same thing about Koreans.
and vice versa.
