Depends on how you play/how much your willing to commit. Ask yourself: Have you used a stick before? Are you just going to play SF4 for a few months and then stop? Do you have plans on playing competitively? Do you play any other fighting games? The truth is that sticks are better than pads, both in speed and execution. However an arcade stick is a hefty investment, if you don't play competitively or are just a casual player, I don't think you should get one.

Totally legit question, some good advice in the replies too. I agree with ZoW 100%, if you're not gonna be playing sf4 (or fighters in general) for a decent chunk of time, dropping three digits on a stick simply isnt worth it.
A lot of those hard trial combos are crazy though. As someone who's been playing fighters for a good year or more now, I still have a few left that are just pure annoying (cough, C.Viper, cough).
With some practice (virtually the same amount of practice you'd need on a stick fyi), you can do most anything on ps3 pad just as well as on stick.
However, we've already got an awesome thread going for this game in the Sports & Games section here, and a thread devoted purely to fighters, so any further questions come join the fun there :}

the 360 controller is god awful for fighting games. The analog stick will mess up a few times and the d-pad is worthless

too be honest, i don't know, i was thinking about getting the arcade joystick(non tournament) since its not at a three digit. And like i said i just got the game yesterday, i've fasted so much ken people that owned me, so i thought they used a joystick, because they are doing such nice combos, so i was suggesting for myself to get a joystick aswell

ooh just to tell you guys im trying to master balrog first, but i've seen videos on youtube, where some people just charge for like not even a second, and they do the "dash strait" . but when i do it i have to charge for atleast 2 or more seconds. any help on this to make the charge less time?
|
I've also never figured out how to use charge characters and how they do it so quickly, so interested in this too
But iloveroo, I think this should probably go on the Street Fighter 4 thread

Should i buy a ps3 just for sf4 or wait for the pc version ?

You can charge while doing a move. A good example is Bison's crouching jab x4 into LK Scissors, where you can pretty much just hold down-back while punching them and it'll have charged the Scissors by the time you need to combo into it.

There are tricks to give you faster consecutive charges. Like if u charge 2 sec B, F, B + punch/kick instead of just B, F + punch/kick.
A stick is worth the investment if you plan to keep playing SF4 for a long time or buy more fighting games in the future.

You can charge from doing like 1000 things. You can turn punch and hold back and then do whatever after. If youre doing a jump in you would never not hold db in the air unless you were trying to do something else.

I'm just disappointed that Cammy isn't in the arcade version.

you can hold a charge before a round starts and release it immediately when the round starts, can hold a charge during ultra, if you can see characters on the screen you can hold a charge.
