INTRODUCTION What is CCP planning, and where do they intend to take EVE? The official press releases and statements by CCP staff suggest that they support the classic image of the EVE galaxy as a harsh, unforgiving place in which all manner of treachery and violence are permitted--celebrated, even. But the actions taken by CCP in recent years point to something else entirely. I believe that the mining ship rebalance, viewed in the context of the last several major changes to the game, give us a clear view of CCP's true intentions: A plan to transition EVE into a carebear-friendly "theme park" MMO in which PvP is largely avoidable. I also believe that CCP's plan will result in consequences they never intended, leading to the ruin of the game. Given the sweeping nature of the issues I'm addressing, this examination will be split into a series. Today, in Part 1 of the series, I will scrutinize CCP's official rationale for the mining ship changes. In Part 2, I will examine the broader array of changes made to the game in recent years, and their implications. In Part 3, I will conclude with a discussion of how the current trend, if it continues, will result in disaster for EVE. Before I begin, I would like to make a disclaimer: I am not an employee of CCP, nor do I claim to possess any inside information. What follows is merely informed speculation. TheMittani.com is Fox News. You have to do some pretty insane mental gymnastics to drag EVE online politics down to the level of American politics. Uh yes, it is written by James, I can most definitely read. What amuses me is that its a parrot of the talking points from a Mittens speech a couple months ago around Burn Jita in which mittens exclaimed that high sec pubbies were attempting to destroy eve by wanted a pvp less theme park. Much in the same way that lesser media writers/talking heads will parrot concepts from political figure heads in real life. Mittens actually has his own column in ten ton hammer, where he often complains about the pubbie threat. In fact all his current submission have been reposted to the mittani website now. The general narrative being sold to the american public is that from the Right side of things is that Obama is a socialist bent on destroying the foundations of what makes america great, because he hates freedom or something. Liberals of course aren't real Americans, real Americans act in xyz fashion etc. From the left side, the story is that republicans are a bunch of greedy, rich, corrupt persons whose primary base is a bunch of uneducated idiots to continually vote into power the rich and powerful thinking they have their best interests in mind. In this narrative republicans are a danger to the economy from their own reckless and wanton greed and destruction and are blinded by their single mindedness in what constitutes being an american. The narratives have become increasing polarized and intense over the last decade or so. If its not painfully obvious. In eve, we have two major ideological groups. People who will always live in high sec and those that don't, primarily people in null sec. The narrative is that the high secs guys are the liberals. They aren't suited for the harsh realities of eve life and there get a long attitude is going to destroy the foundations of eve by making it a care bear theme park. Eve news 24 is clearly a biased news group out to make the hardcore eve player group the CFC look bad with its misinformed and biased reporting. Mittens in a way acts as the figure head leader, sort of a rush limbaugh for the extremes of this group. Go through his columns, he frequently talks about how high sec players are a threat to eve and that they shouldnt be considered real eve players because they play wrong. He uses many of the same vitriol phrases you'll find on virtually any sort of am radio talk show. Of course people in high sec also complain that the evil null sec groups with their tech rich leaders and swarms of followers are going to destroy eve as well. These rich tech over lords have swarms of uneducated goons following them. Their constant suicide ganking and csm engineering is clearly to going to continue to un people out of eve and destroy it as well. Of course Eve News 24, which outside of some major Null war reporting is mostly filled with articles from people who live in highsec and naturally has a bias against some of the more extreme nullsec points of view. Mittens himself in a number of speeches and twitter posts talks about how eve news 24 is biased and full of lies. Amusingly, during the whole fanfest debacle, mittens played his cards exactly like how Rush did during his drug scandal and promptly declared that the liberal media was out to get him. In this case it was all the gaming blogs and eve news 24 and the pubbie threat. Now finally we have a new eve news site branded under mittens that is primarily being written by those from the null sec point of view of things. Mittens himself touts it as the unbiased and real news reporting that has been missing. | ||
