edit: Wait, you're saying that the reason you have to wait is because the BT guy can't visit again for another month? What the fuck? BT are shit. Phoned up BT to ask when they could next install one as the engineer left, they said not until September, I called the engineer and said I'd break the door and replace it but he'd already reported the job cancelled and said he couldn't actually do it now because of paperwork. To make things worse there's a stupid pay as you go electricity meter in the house because the area is pretty slummy and it's in the same guy's room. About half an hour later the lights went out. Called the landlady but no reply, tomorrow I'm taking a hammer to the lock. On a bright note, Virgin reckon they can get me internet by Friday. We'll see. Pay as you go electricity? How the fuck does that work, is there like a cc swipe slot? Crazy europeans. Do you at least have water? Most places don't have it but if in the past the occupier has had pay monthly/quarterly electricity and not paid then they're like "not gonna trust you again, you can have pay as you go and pay way more and fuck you bitch". You have this thing you take to convenience stores and top up and plug into the meter. I've not actually done it yet because the housemates previously handled it but he disappeared a week ago and I've not seen him since. :S I do have water and the water has pressure so I could create some kind of water powered dynamo plant thing from the upstairs bathroom down the stairs. This new house/roommate situation has been nothing but trouble. You at least need to have the guy's phone number or something. Take a picture of the door to the room for me, and any lines that are run in the place, telecom outlets etc. God....since you have the technical knowledge of a pensioner, this will probably be painful for me. I legitimately don't own a camera. :D I can work a hammer though.

There used to be ways to cheat the coin meters, and you can still cheat some of the od ones, someone i know wentto prison for 2 years because he drilled his meter and pinned the wheel. I dont think kwark would cheat a meter butkcoulddefinately see him getting his neighbours to pay for it by some cunning scheme

Is there a window in the room you could gain access to?
|
Assuming its just locked by a normal key, you could just go find a lock smith and pay a triffling ammount to get a bump key and let yourself in the normal way. Unless you were bluffing about knowing how to use a hammer.

If its a yale type lock 2 metal hair clips can be used to manipulate the lock or a good sturdy credit card if its not got a jam on it
|
|
We also used to use thin aluminium sheeting down the side of the lock jam, rubbish at eve but ive had to help break into peoples homes and cars before with my locksmith brother inlaw

Kwark it's going to take a shit ton of time to take everything down then put it all back up later.
|
why are we attacking his front door when kwark could break into say a window or something a ton easier the risk having someone call the cops on him when he spends a half hour on the front door.
unless he lives in a bad area or something they arn't going to have pexiglass windows probably and if they don't he can replace them for less then 10 bucks probably not counting installation which is another problem. kwark gets his internet and the guy gets a break in proof window win win I say.
also if you do live in a bad area change your glass to pexiglass. looks almost exactly the same but a ton cheaper and less maintenance while still being impossible to break (hammer or anything else blunt will simply bounce back and anything sharp is better off going though the back door anyway. same with your car windows. The last thing you want in a car crash or with someone breaking in is to deal with a ton of broken glass everywhere.

I feel guilty, while walking in ships is kinda pointless/dymb, I was actually pretty excited about the tech demo they had for their new WiS concept.
The idea of getting out and exploring an exploration site, hacking, scanning, finding a way through defenses while potentially wanting a bit a co op both inside the structure and someone to make sure you didn't come back to space rubble floating by the air dock you entered seemed way more interesting than orbit can turn on hacking/arch module.
