So i was bringing my cloaky thought EC- to get some mods for Torrinos when i land 6k from a merlin at the gate (as i had no safes and decided to risk warping at 0 as i had already seen alot of FA at a previous gate). Pretty soon ships start to pile in and I call it in GA and after a while, with a rifter friend i deceide to hit it with my slicer for the hell of it. The camp was mostly frigs with some sniper T3BCs hanging around so i warp to a safe off the torr gate and proceed to fly around trying to get a frig to attack me, however I have no luck as the gang starts to warp off as i approach them, and they eventually all warp away as the sight of a slicer and a rifter must be scary to 20+ guys with 3 sniper BCs 5 inties a dram and atleast 5 assult frigs and a load of other assorted ships (and rapiers). I follow them to the GM gate and repeat the procedure, however rapier(s) are appearing and disappearing on d-scan so i guess they are waiting for thier recon support. However after shooting at me for a bit with the sniper BCs they decide that it would be best to warp back to torrinos gate when I burn away from them. I follow, not really expecting anything, however when I get there I am offerd a 1v1 with a jag, and he says he will burn to me. Finally given some action I burn in closer to see what they will do. (even tho a jag isn't a very appealing target to a slicer with its 90% em resist). Suddenly the dram starts to burn for me, I immedatly overheat my MDW and burn away whilst smashing him with overheated scorch, also I call in my rifter who is waiting at a safe nearby. I know he will land behind me beacuse due to my incompitence i failed to aline to him but things were going to happen quickly so i figured there was no time to rethink things. Rifter lands 50k behind me (oops) and gets blobed by everything, inclufing the dram that was chasing me as in 1/4 sheilds it deceided that a maxed dps slicer hurts alot. The rifter dies quickly and get a bit closer to try to kill one of the untanked inties. A malediction burns for me and i overheat away whilst unloading onto it, after 2 shots its shields were gone and it was turning around, I turn to and get another shot off bringing it to half armor. As its superiour agility kicks in it starts to get away from me, making it out to 20k, unfortunaly for it that happens to be my optimal and a 1 shot it from half armor, (im really loving my nearly maxed dps skills atm). By now everything has turned onto me and i need to make an escape, i burn a bit away from the ishkur that is 20k from me but soon relise there is much faster stuff closeing in on me, so I attempt to aline and warp. Quickly the dram closes in, however I still manage to warp, despite the dram being 7k from me when I finally do GFs called in local and a fun first op to me, ill trade a rifter for a T2 fit mael anyday. Could have done it alot better by sorting out my aline and rifters warpin e.t.c but overall not a bad op for me, props to liquid'courage for suicideing for me and not doing anything retarded (from my experience that happens alot in most people), ill try to do better next time. Battle report thing, (there was a lot more stuff there that didn't show up). Also holy shit this is long for 1 malediction kill, but whatever I am so pumped right now (so pumped in fact I cant get to sleep, hence why I'm writing this at 5 in the morning)

After 2 years perhaps I should detail my journey. At the very least, newer people can look back on this and laugh at some of the awesome mistakes and misconcceptions I had in my early days. I had heard of eve off and on while I was playing wow over the course of a couple years, however I had never committed to actually looking it up for some odd reason. A few months after I had finally given up on WoW I was bored reading team liquid and saw the eve thread post. From reading a bit on the forums I started watching the trailer videos for eve. The dominion trailer was what did it in for me. I was sold hook, line, and sinker. This was clearly a representation of how eve worked. Totally, it must have been fraps from a real fight, people totally used call signs and acted like that in fleet battles. I didn’t consider myself part of the team liquid community so joining never crossed my mind. Instead I looked up things on the eve online forums, watched videos, and looked at pictures. Clearly the megathron was the best ship ever. It took about 3 days before I realized you could actually manually pilot your ship, I literally spent the first three days using celestials to align and point my ship towards areas I wanted to go that didn’t have an asteroid or rat I could approach. I bee lined the skills to just barely get into a mega, despite glaring advice even on the eve-o forums to NEVER DO THAT. I had read that missions were the best way to make money, however I could not afford fancy megathron to mission. Clearly I needed to join a corp. I pretty much joined the first corp that posted in the recruitment channel. NEW Euroengineering Arms Race. (yes NEW is in caps) What a total shit corp. They had some blah blah plan about null sec and they were willing to teach me to be pro eve player. So I started mining. Mining in mighty gallente space fish Navitas, I had picked megathron as my long term plan because clearly it would be best ship because gallente people were noble freedom loving people I could roleplay as. Luckily my new found mentors would help take me under their wing and join the group L4 missions. That’s right these guys were so talented they needed multiple people to run L4’s. I grabbed my 1337 altron to help defend local from terrible evil angel rats, with the help of a dominix repping a drake. I saw the machariel for the first time there, and began to fall in love with it, however I didn’t even know you could fly one. Even though running missions like this is horribly sub optimal, one of the greatest experiences I had was doing that mission. I had never been to a place like Jita or Dodixie or even rens, I had never really even seen anything larger than hulk in the mining belts with me. Being in a tiny atron circling through fleets of giant battleships gave me a sense of scale I had never had in another MMO or even most games for that matter. I was sold. Mining sucked. So I made another mistake to rectify my last mistake. I was paying for my subs with real cash, but knew if I could make enough isk I could pay that way. So I took out a plex loan, which made sense to me at the time. Bought a 60 day and sold it on the forums and bought my first l4 mission ship. Navy Megathron, mainly because my skills were so shit I couldn’t even fit the failest of regular megathrons. I grinded day and night attempting to do fucking serpentis blockade with a shit skilled RAIL navy mega. There is nothing more painful than this trust me. This was long before the hybrid buff so rails were lucky to track anything at even 50km. However this was not all bad, I learned a lot about tracking and sig sizes doing this as well as manually piloting a shit in order to get the best transveral to still hit things. Then disaster struck. New Something Something had been war decced. I knew nothing about how this worked and just assumed I was hours of jumps away from the rest of my corp and that I would just get over looked while I missioned. I was wrong. http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=10677627 I was jumping out of Gallente space to go run some mission when suddenly flashy red everywhere. At first I panicked. Then I began locking thing. The only thing I knew was I saw a drake, and that drakes were shit because they couldnt do l4's solo, because the drake pilot in my corp couldnt. I was going to fucking murder that drake. First lost. Painful lost, it more than paid for itself, however I had to put off plexxing through isk to get another one. It also important to note that the people who ganked me were so confused about what a 30day old character was doing in faction fit navy mega that they offered to sell me back the dropped faction mods at a discount, I was too prideful though. She was named FNV Devastation, FNV totally stands for Federation Navy Vessel because I was totally going to RP. That and it is a reference to another awesome space game that I doubt most of you will even be old enough to remember. More later maybe.

I remember my aspiration when I was new was to make a whole billion isk, so that I could go out and lose ships for months on end in lowsec without having to continue to make isk. Just think of how many rifters and ruptures I could have bought! To accomplish this task, I was running level three missions in highsec in a cyclone. I don't remember exactly how it was fit, but I do remember that it had artillery on it, probably 650mms. Good times~

Reeling from my last lost, I was literally sick to my stomach, made me quit the corp in complete shame and embarrassment. I spent the next few days putting back together a new Navy Mega, and trying to find out where I had went wrong. A Few days into this Alliance Tournament 8 started. I watched very intently because this is clearly how you pvp. Then I saw them. Machariels, those beautiful angel ships I had seen in the missions. The announcers would go on length about how they were powerful and amazing ships, and that’s when I knew Mega’s were for fish, I was going to get a machariel. Immediate skill swaps towards Minnie training. At least some of my gallente skills would come in handy. I did missions for what seemed a long while, and when I had become bored with that I started to investigate wormholes. Having read everything I could about them, I fitted up a cane and went in search of c1s and c2 to farm. Early on I had a really embarrassing imicus loss. I was learning to scan and was told that lowsec had better sigs to scan down. So I built up some liquid courage with bourbon and committed myself towards braving the dangers of low sec. Egg. Was sort of a gallente Amamake at the time, not that I knew back then what that would mean. As I jumped in the in gate was covered in wrecks, I quietly looted them thinking I was clever getting rich from all these great t1 mods sitting in the wrecks, and lets not forget the free ammo. After looting my riches I threw out probes on the actual gate, uncloaked. It wasn’t long before a bc found me and I ran. I decided to hide at a planet. I had doubled back from the sun so clearly no one would find me there. I didn’t know what a dscan was. Needless to say a dram found me and gave me my second loss. http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=10846739 I learned what I did wrong from the killer and with new knowledge I stayed in highsec and found wormholes there to raid sites. I surprisingly did not lose a cane doing this. I skilled up and actually focused on getting t2 modules. Then one day I ran into another group living in one of the wormholes I was pillaging. After a little chatting, and me trying to act like I was clearly wormhole expert, I found myself in a new corp. It didn’t take long for me to realize something was wrong. Namely that I actually was the most knowledgeable person in corp. Secondly we were actually squatting in someone else’s WH, and doing so with a small tower with no guns, just a ship and hangar array. Even worse our glorious pvp master was sitting in a fail fit domi that needed to warp out on c2 sites. At some point while I was scanning for sigs I ran into the actual owner of the hole. We chatted, mostly about what we were trying to accomplish there and that how the Corp ceo was a complete idiot. He announced that since we did not leave he was going to force us out with his friends. I wasn’t feeling any love for this group, mostly because it seemed really dishonorable to squat in clearly someone else’s claimed territory. So I agreed to help him. I had moved all my stuff out of the hole, and on the night he had planned to kill our non stronted tower with no guns, I ejected the contents of the ship array and turned off the shields. This was the first and last corp heist I was involved in, I never shared this with anyone as I felt ashamed like some dastardly fellow looting a WoW guild bank, at least I did get paid from the guy kicking us out. I quietly quit when the corp fell apart and bought my machariel and started missioning. It was lonely, I knew TL still had a corp, and thought that might be a good place to go since clearly they would be knowledgeable and organized. So I started shit posting to act like I was actually involved the TL community.

Having achieved what I thought was a respectable skill point level that would certainly impress and hide that I knew nothing about how to actually play eve and of course getting to 100 posts to clearly signify I was totally a Tler I found SCBW channel to join the Hatchery. I totally hadn’t read the OP on how to join, and to this day I can admit I’ve never read the damn thing in any of the 3 or 4 iterations it has gone through. That thing is long. No one noticed or cared back then so I joined and within hours I was on my first op. Impressing the whole community that I could fit a t2 fit cane. No seriously that was quite a feat for fresh recruits. You see the Hatchery had started as a learning corp for the original TL corp, I joined a little after Liquid Corp had disintegrated and there really wasn’t much more than about 10 active people. There was no Aeth, Mandini, VoV, or even Cael when I first joined. It was Kwark, Serg (who was actually in corp back then), Nou, Dexxus, and Jaime along with a handful of others who didn’t make it this far including the vile Thornton. Other than the occasional rifter roam I completely skipped having to start out as a rifter pilot. A t2 cane was a precious thing to us. We lived in emol back then so I spent an evening moving my machariel there and kwark helped me get republic security rep. Amusingly, at this time I was richer than kwark, who had just suffered a series of multi billion isk drake losses in missions. In fact I was our first machariel mission runner and remember having to bail out a couple TLers in l4s with their maelstroms a few times. My second roam was a rifter roam. I got my first kill, a wolf in that roam. Serg was actually using it as an opportunity to teach fresh day old rifters, and while I tried to act knowledgeable that roam was really where I started to learn things. I actually really want to thank Serg as being one of the first people to teach me. So yea, back to the wolf. It was me and serge and 3 day-old rifter pilots. Back then our only method of PVP was to throw out a bait rifter and hope someone would attack it, hopefully just one guy. Then we would pile up and blob the shit out of them. It would be months before we actually had ‘fair’ fights. In fact we didn’t have links back then, we didn’t have cloaky scouts, a rifter would scout and visit celestials to scan targets down. We threw all three of the day olds at the wolf we found, and when it became obvious that all three would die, me and serge came in to secure the kill, well I put a point on it at least and serg did the killing. http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=11598510 (Nou is in natural habitat on kms, a pod) PVE was comical back then looking at it now. We full cleared all the missions because bounties were what got us paid. We didn’t even know what to do with LP back then and just used it on random stuff to sell. A few months in we discovered faction ammo and several months later Seb Tribe. Kwark originally started his isk empire buying faction ammo off of people in emol. At some point we started blitzing, and one fateful day I shared with a couple people (not kwark I was actually a super jealous back then) that I could just put a couple mods up over priced and when they became old enough they would sell for more than what the new stuff sold as. It wouldn’t be for another 3 or 4 months until West and Grey developed the rest of mechanics to sell vast quantities of overpriced mods that this market became realized and kwark would become space rich. I also remember back when the Noctis first came out, we used to loan them to newbies to salvage and we were all amazed at how rich this was going to make our fresh recruits. Infact kwark used to salvage his own missions to get on the huge pay day.
