Back then, you were increasing the mana cost by 20 per level (I believe it is now 10), and the mana cost starts out significantly more expensive too, meaning you can't just keep it at level 1 and use it like wild in a trilane or while roaming. Now you don't really lose a lot by leveling it up for the extra damage, the increase in mana cost is much less impactful. | ||

Level 4 aurora is 115 magic damage, -5 armor, -20% base damage. It has a huge impact on teamfights early on and andro can wind up being low leveled for forever. Maxing Q on the other hand gives a flat +225 magic damage to a single target. If someone hits 3 targets with aurora they're already doing more damage than they would with a maxed stun - and this is before taking into account the -armor/base damage/vision effects. Against 2 targets the damage is only about 100 more overall and there is a net -10 armor effect, -20% base damage for both. It's not that maxing q is always bad, it's just that it's almost never bad to max w. | ||

I'm a big aurora fan, maybe I'll switch back to the "old" way. | ||

If that's the case - I always max out her stun first. It's a bit like being given the option to do 60% damage to two targets, or 100% damage to one. I'd always always always go for the second. Making damn sure someone dies is far more important than doing a slight amount more damage, situationally, to more than one. Put it this way, which of these skills would you rather have: 300 damage to 1 target, 100 damage to 3. How much do you have to increase the second skill's damage, before it's worthwhile? A hero on 1 hp, is still doing their full dps. a dead hero does none. | ||

for hon whether you max comet or aurora should mainly depend on how the game is going and your role, its completely different if you're roaming, in a trilane, or in a dual lane, and also different depending on how the game is going, both are equally valid imo (tho maxing aura before maxing both of the others is probably stupid) | ||
