He also has 75% Luck growth as Paladin and actually is pretty likely to hit his Luck cap so Good Fortune actually does trigger comparatively often.

Its kind of a letdown that it recycles maingame maps, but hopefully the story is worth it.

Finally decided to try a Birthright lunatic run, and figured I might do iron man to make it a bit more interesting.

Not sure so far who's more fail, team Hoshido minus the ninjas, or the enemy AI.

Hoshido actually gives you a higher density of good units early game than Conquest does. Even if you don't include the ninjas, BR Silas is significantly better than CQ Silas (Practice Katana + more speed pairups + lower speed benchmarks means it's much less likely for his speed to come up short) and both fliers are just good the whole game, since enemy stats just never get high enough for them to be bad.

Someone asked me the question once whether CQ10 would be easier or harder if you had to play it with the Hoshido units, and I think it would honestly be very similar, if not slightly easier with the Hoshidans. Hinoka + her retainers being worse than Camilla and hers is made up for by the fact that the Ninjas are way better than the Dark Mages, and Takumi's retainers having much better combat at base than Leo's.

Heh, I count Silas as team Nohr. I actually like Leo's retainers a lot but my impression was up to chapter 9. Half of my team already feels like pair up fodder, and I'm only using Tsubaki because he flies.

Edit: part of the discrepancy is that I think the Nohr weapons are better overall (other than shurikens) because the base might is in general more useful than the other miscellaneous stats you get. Also, the fact that Hoshido doesn't get a physical javelin is pretty annoying.

Thats a really cool what if...the big thing for me personally is a huge part of my strat on that level involves camilla running around sniping peg knights. Hinoka absolutely won't have enough power to pull that off, so I personally would prefer conq units, but it overall sounds like a really fun though experiment/potential rom hack...

Would Leon have enough movement to cause problems though? Boss units aside ninjas are probably good enough to cover the deficiencies. Paladin Jakob is nerfed though unless Silas comes with his Conquest bronze lance.

Depending of the skills, I feel like Leo retainers would be noticeably easier to handle than Takumi's.

Well, if Birthright chapter 18 is anything to go by, all 3 of them would obviously be huge pushovers.

Out of curiosity, do you guys use the online castle inheriting skill stuff when you do your runs? It feels really cheap and too easy to get normally impossible combos like quixotic+hoshidan unity on nohr avatar or just having aptitude on literally everyone.

Also, I ended up buying conquest since my sister already had birthright. I figured since I'm gonna play on filthy casual mode anyway, the difficulty / limited exp and money isn't a big deal. So far camilla is carrying me like crazy (say night-night~).

I've dabbled with the inheriting skills on my Revelations run, and I can say that after doing so I don't think I'll inherit skills for my Conquest run.

Some of the skills are very good in combination with other skills. That said, it would be money well spent in my opinion, but I think you defeat the nature of Conquest if you go ahead and inherit skills.

That might just be me though.
It is better to die for The Emperor than live for yourself.

+Str/-Mag Swordmaster is the best bosskiller, but lacks mounted movement, weapon triangle control (more relevant on Conquest due to the absence of the Dual weapons), 1-2 range weapons, ability to hit Res, and general bulk until you have the Grim Yato.

Best Avatar classes are probably Cavalier and Wyvern, as both provide mounted movement, high bulk, and multiple weapon types. It's pretty close between the two, since Cav retains sword rank while Wyvern gains flight. Both also function in either +Mag or +Str variants--+Mag has superior enemy phase offense and the option to target either Res or Def, while +Str has superior player phase and better damage vs. most bosses who have similar Def and Res. +Mag avatars will want -Luck since they can typically still utilize their Str stat due to the Avatar's naturally high Str growth and the classes' high Str caps (and being a -Str avatar makes the early game unnecessarily difficult). +Str can be -Mag or -Luck based on player preference--the Avatar has a passable Mag growth and the Levin Sword and Bolt Axe have high Mt so +Str/-Luck can still retain the option to use these as secondary weapons.

Swordfaire is actually a much less appealing skill than it initially appears, since other reclasses have damage skills that come earlier and provide similar benefit. Paladin has +4 damage from Elbow Room and Defender by 20/5, while Wyvern gets a total of +7 damage between Str+2 and Trample.

I have yet to buy any skills on any run. I do use online stuff for forging/mess hall materials though and have played around with the VP/BP reward items and path bonuses/free DLC a bit.

Wait, you can use the online stuff for skills? I just used it to get materials...

Guess it makes sense though, was wondering how people have ridiculously hard skill combinations that'd require like 4+ heart/partner seals to get. (I saw one in another castle's arena with Quixotic, Astra, and Lethality)

Ninja and outlaw are both classes I would take over samurai. You don't really ever need more player phase sword based offense, and the utility you get from other classes is more notable.

It should be noted that you can get access to almost all of the classes pretty easily, so the alternate class really just affects which class you get first. In that case, I would say either wyvern or cavilier has the advantage just because of mounted movement, or even sky knight.

+mag might be stronger if you're commiting to samurai, to become a ghetto Ryouma. But there is no real advantage of this over doing something like +mag cav.
