All I know is there was a playthrough on YouTube and speech was in Eng. This wqs a week ago...

Someone was telling me about how Berserker Arthur pretty much carried him with 70% crits and stuff...

Anyone else find anything similar to this?

I think this is personal bias, but I've noticed that Arthur has an uncanny knack for landing criticals when it really counts.
It is better to die for The Emperor than live for yourself.

Arthur has never hit anything when it mattered for me. I can't get him above 60% to hit an even leveled unit, so I usually just pair him with Effie so that she can one shot things with a Steel Lance/Effie's Lance until I get Percy then bench him.

I restart enough as it is...if I have to restart every time he misses a critical attack, I'd pull my hair out even more. I mean just today, I had to restart because I mathed wrong and got exactly lethaled by an attack that I thought would leave me at 1 hp even if it hit at ~60%. Still salty about that....

I mean, even if Berserker Arthur can kill anything on player phase, his "lategame potential" is still a 1-range footlock weaponlock. That's a pretty low ceiling with regard to how good he could possibly be lategame.

If anything, his lategame potential comes from having a great class set (Fighter + Cavalier + 2 A+ options that give Outlaw) and using the other classes. Unfortunately, since he starts from Fighter and not from Cav, he won't have the Sword/Lance rank for that transition to ever be smooth.

Unequip the Gamble skill, it will help with the hit rate considerably.

Not really my type of unit, as you don't really need crits in this game to get through things. Berserker has nice pair up stats though.

Well you can't unequip until you get 6 other skills, and I can never even get him to level enough to do that.

You can unequip skills as soon as you have access to the preparations screen in the skills menu.

I honestly think that Gamble may be one of my favorite skills in the game. I know it's not great (and at times it is a hindrance!) but I feel that it makes the game more exciting. -10% to hit but 10% to crit can really have a big influence sometimes!

That might just be me though.

Most of the time you want your primary combat units to achieve ORKOs without crits, and the best ones can do that pretty reliably regardless.

I would probably like gamble more if it was a selectable command like in FE9/10. The effect is also a bit too small, as you aren't reliably getting a crit if your gamble didn't screw you over.

I would rather it be a big risk with reliable return than a medium to large risk with returns 10 percent of the time conditional on not getting screwed over.

It would basically be like using Killer Weapons where you use them when the crit chance is relevant and unequip them when the the crit doesn't help you to avoid the -20 Avoid.

Honestly, Fighter is totally fine even with Gamble being bad because HP+5 totally makes up for it. Most unpromoted classes don't have 2 good skills anyway and HP+5 is on par with a lot of the better ones. It's basically the reason why Fighter!Hero is better than Merc!Hero.

Enemy phase +3 damage is pretty good though, and luck percent chance to heal is okay. I find the hero class really underwhelming in this game, but that combination feels a little bit better than hp +5 and a terrible skill in gamble. Higher axe rank seems a little more relevant, as the hammer is more useful than the armor slayer.

Lasward and Serena can hold their own as well, while charlotte and arthur don't ever really feel like particularly good units in the early game.

I find in practice neither of those skills do as much as HP+5, because I usually don't plan on any of the Fighters/Mercs seeing enough enemy phase combat for it to be better, and the edge case where the heal procs AND matters is so small that I can't ever really use it for anything. It's not an active detriment like Gamble often is, but it's not better by enough for me to really care.

Of those four units, Selena's pretty clearly the most usable combat unit (and there's a strong argument for her not being in a Merc line class at all anyway). Regardless, Laslow/Selena's relative advantage to Charlotte and Arthur has more to do with their advantages as units themselves (e.g. Charlotte's usability is mostly sunk by her low base stats relative to her join time), not necessarily their starting class.

Really the best use of Hero is still actually on Xander through marriage/A+ since having an unmounted sword class is actually useful for 26 (and Sol with high Mt unpenalized 1-2 range is actually really good). Also, unlike the default Mercs, he actually *does* do enough enemy phase combat for +3 damage on EP to be useful.

Lol, I just realized that Xander's personal carries through the whole battle, and not just before the unit takes damage. Going through just Hero and Paladin gives Xander +9 attack Enemy Phase just from skills.
