There's something strangely ironic about running past the speed of a car in neutral for a fatass sleeping Pokemon.
In other news, I finally (FINALLY) caught a dratini. Its CP is utter garbage, but hey, who cares when you have a dratini? :D

When I finally meet a pokemon I never saw (even on radar), I'm actually even happy if his CP are low enough so he should not escape :o

Suspicious users have disappeared! The gyms are now a free-for-all. I'm impressed the response was that quick!
Nevermind they're back. Someone wasted a lot of time Saturday night clearing gyms. There's even posts on the local facebook group from team instinct players as they can't get into gyms that are level 10 :/

Everyone knew this app was gonna get to 100 million users in a day. I could understand if they maybe undershot it and planned for 75m as the benchmark for worst case but their expected launch target is just laughable. Just another reason why Niantic is the worst part about this game. I don't know about that. I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect 8.5 times as many people that played WoW at its peak to hope on a mobile game first day.

I just hatched an ice shard/blizzard lapras, which is the best defender moveset but only 80% IV, is it worth maxing out? Usually I try for 90+ IV but lapras is pretty rare so I'm on the fence.

Tough.
The one you hatched will be lvl 20 at best, maxing it out will require some more hatches, or hundreds of kms of buddy walking.
But finding one with higher CP/IV and the same moveset is equally annoying. Actually it depends on the area. Where I live I see Lapras on my scanner daily so I would wait until I find a better one. But on Reddit I've seen discussions of Lapras' biome and it appears there are cities where it doesn't spawn at all (unlike Snorlax which seems to spawn everywhere, just at low rate).
So I guess it depends on what you mean by "pretty rare" exactly
PS: once you faced Blizzard once, it becomes trivial to dodge, the flash is right when your pokemon gets encased in ice. I'm not sure it's the best defender moveset in practice. Ice Shard/Ice Beam is probably better if we assume that the opponent tries to dodge specials. i.imgur.com

In a similar vein I have a Steel Wing / Dragon Pulse Dragonite I caught that's only level 13. Silph road estimates at 78% IV. So far I have seen a total of 8 Dratini since July. I'm debating if its worth saving candy for a Dragonite in half a year or something that might have a meh moveset anyways.
and congrats daphreak!

Dragonite doesn't really have a meh moveset, unless you specifically want an attacker/defender. I'd wait for a higher IV one to power up. CP will matter eventually, when all gyms have 10 Dragonites in them

In those tough cases I usually like to just save up the candy then decide. By the time you save up enough candy to go from 20->30 (or whatever your level cap is) you'll have figured out if you're going to get anything more worthwhile to power up instead. Chances often are if you don't have a better pokemon by then, by time you do get a better one you'll have enough candy to power that one up as well. Ignoring the Stardust cost here obviously which is a separate concern, but 2 80+% Lapras' sounds pretty good anyways.
I know sites like pokemon gamepress really favors 2+ bar moves for defenders, including ice beam > blizzard (though they rate both really favorably). I think it has to do with calculations about how many specials the pokemon will get off in a fight when run by the AI (i.e with 1 bar specials you can do things like beat the pokemon right before they get their 2nd special).

I've already walked lapras almost 200km but I spent them powering up my 84IV frost breath/blizzard one. I also have an 88IV frost breath/ice beam, not sure if I'll max him out yet. I really want a defender one though..
