I will probably play on whatever the "normal" difficulty is to start. I usually do this when starting a game, and then adjust it further as I get a better feel for how hard it was. If it's like XCOM 1, normal will probably be good for me as I get used to the new system.
I don't think I'll be playing Ironman. I can usually resist save-scumming if I lose one or two people, but I prefer to be able to re-try something if I screw up really badly.
Also, sometimes something happens that's just bullshit and wasn't my fault, like a bug or something. In those cases, I'd rather not be punished for a mistake I didn't make.
Also I sinned and pre-ordered the game because I really wanted additional customization options for my soldiers. That's straight up one of the greatest appeals of this game to me. Also I ordered a physical copy from Amazon because I like having my games in boxes. Means I probably won't get it until a few days after the fact, but I can wait.

I'll be playing Commander honest man, I want to be able to probably finish my first campaign. I've arranged to have most of the day free to binge.

I think I'm going to go legend (or is it legendary?) ironman on my first run fully aware that I could fail after like 20 hours.
The idea of capturing that first max difficulty everything unknown experience is really captivating to me, because once you beat the game and understand how everything works your future experiences (even on legendary/ironman) are going to permanently effected by the knowledge you've accumulated.
I wanna experience the game at it's absolute possible hardest at least once. After all, the aliens won :p.

They are still there.
On EnterElysium's Stream yesterday, he got one operation called Half-dead spear.

For games I have a bit of experience with I usually play normal difficulty+1. So usually hard if there is such an option and leave "impossible" for now

Think I will go with that as well, I don't have that much XCOM experience but I did do a EW playthrough last month in the lead-up to the sequel so hopefully I'll be experienced enough to do a Classic (Commander?) run on the first playthrough.

Glad to see the early reviews and even streams, shows they have a lot of confidence that the game is great.

Well, I've been watching streams and I don't want to be spoiled but you can't really be spoiled by gameplay only because its gonna play like Xcom with only tiny changes.
Anytime a cutscene starts playing or people start talking about story stuff in game I just instantly mute and look away and unmute and continue watching when said cutscenes are done and they are in a mission.

yeah i am not checking reddit anymore and stay away from any streams that might contain anything xcom related. i am not even reading reviews.
i want to feel like that first soldier you move on turn 1 who has no idea what is going to happen next.

I want to make a custom soldier and dark collaborator list but it feels a little short. I'm considering expanding it with movie characters too but I need some suggestions.

My list of characters to make to the character pool consist of various characters from comics, games and anime that I like, as well as YouTube and game dev personalities. I'm sure you can find some character that you like.
My list is currently 15 characters, complete with photo references for when I make them in-game

Difficulties are
- Rookie
- Veteran
- Commander
- Legendary
From what i had watched, legendary is easier than Impossible and more in line with Classic difficulty on EU (half cover is a lie, full cover is pretty safe). I don't know about commander.
Some preload news should drop today (3 days before release), but can't assure anything, so cross fingers, specially those waiting for the GMG codes :D
