from what i gathered on reddit streamers (beaglerush) cheesed the shit out of the ai with the old system, completely ignoring cover to get the best overwatch shots. ill hope they will fix some upcoming ai exploits as well in the first months, never really liked them.
Not fixed but fixed.
Most missions are time based, so you can't just crawl your way waiting until all alien pods that are not statics fall into your OW trap (or in EW, just rush to mimetic skin and squad sight the fuck out of them). You don't have the time. On X2 every pod patrols, except turrets for obvious reasons.
What was seen was the interaction of concealment overwatch (which has zero penalties and that's major, aside not being able to crit but with the increased damage ranges from weapons it doesn't matter much). Concealment overwatch doesn't trigger until you break concealment or you are spotted. So people would leave their soldier up in the open just one tile away from being discovered (which you can see on red), and next alien turn aliens would spot the XCOM soldiers, remove them from concealment and scamper. And now they would get a round of concealment overwatch into the aliens who would only scamper on its turn. If some of them survived, you had the next turn to just mop them up easilly withouth any kind of retalation.
This got quickly (and the next day Solomon tweeted about it, it was shown on stream), fixed adding itchy trigger tentacle to aliens when they spot you on concealment. So they will shoot at the soldier out of cover instead of scamper. So early game, it's just not worth to do it anymore. We will see if on mid/lategame it's possible (for example, covering fire from specialists triggers from this shots, so they shoot before the aliens even when they spot you from concealment ;p).
Anyways be sure that there will be ways to exploit the system, and phantom rangers promise to be the biggest offenders in this regard.

TotalBiscuit has been creaming himself on twitter over the game. I don't have any doubt that it is going to be a big hit critically.
The fact that the preview build that Firaxis sent out to reviewers/youtubers earlier does not seem to have any major issues* makes me believe that Firaxis has taken there time to make sure that the game will be as good as it can get. And apparently that build was from a few months before they got it, so they have probably fixed some issues since then. And I will spend to much time with the game as well. Luckily it releases after I am done with my move.
* The only thing of what I have seen so far is that in one of ChristopherOdd's videos one model once does clip through another one incorrectly. And in another one the game is not 100% sure how Bladestorm works with Viper grabs.
Clipping was common in EU/EW as well. It's a pretty safe bet that this will never get fixed due to the sheer complexity of the issue.
The bigger problem is that clipping doesn't seem to play nice with environmental destruction. I've seen soldiers do things like destroy their own cover, or set their own cars on fire.
(I was confusing who played it)
At 30:30 in the video, the datapad or w/e is inside the vechicle and Quill can only attempt the hardest hack. It was this clipping issue that I meant that I hope that they have fixed
Was fully expecting more shooting through walls and everything else when they announced that there will be generated maps. I don't midn though. Much for fun if every map is a bit different. Not sure if I fancy the weird stuff they brought in, like hair triggers. Or hacking a lamp, to reset the action points of your team, or buffing the enemy on failure. It adds to the game for sure, but I sometimes like logic over weird fun.

Yeah that's really cool. It is also very nice that the hacking does not involve a mini-game. Usually hacking mini-games feels like a die-roll anyway for me. Here they are at least open from the start that it is random. And the fact that mission-critical hacks cannot fail (you just don 't always get a reward) makes me less concerned about it
according to reddit there is some weird exchange rate thing going on on gmg if you are from australia. there was a post of someone who payed 50% more than what he should have. so if you are from australia keep an eye open.
i am super hyped for the game. i usually never preorder games because i dont like the idea of buying something of which i dont know the quality and then dont be able to return it if it doesnt match my expectations. well with xcom everything i see just screams BUY ME.
I get why people buy from GMG if you don’t have a lot of money, but I never feel comfortable doing so. A lot of developers have said they can’t be sure where they keys come from or if they got paid for them, so I would rather go through steam or the developer themselves. But I get why people go there and more power to you if you can get the game on the cheap.

Other than Australia's currency being essentially tied to the Chinese stock market?

I've heard some rumors of GMG screwing up in the past too. I just can't turn down a sale from a retailer that isn't outright a black/gray market reseller.
On January 27 2016 02:32 hfglgg wrote: isnt gmg an official reseller?
I am not sure. I have never heard of an "official reseller" of keys. The developers of the Witcher said that they were not sure where GMG got their CD keys are such a bargain rate. Of course, they run their own digital market place, but I am willing to take CD project on good faith. They have always been against screwing over their fans and the people who buy their games. Other developers were talking about late last year too. The main problem is if GMG’s keys are not legit, its the publisher/developer who takes the heat if they deactivate them.
I am sure the majority of the keys GMGing sells are legit. It’s when they are offing these amazing deals for games at launch that I question if they are valid.

I've seen couple more discussions along those lines. As I said above, I am pretty sure the majority of the keys they sell are legit. But I question when large publishers say things like “we don’t know where these keys come from.” That isn't something companies in business relationships say.
Its to weird for me personally, but I have the extra money to make that decision and still get the game I want. I respect some folks can't do that.
On January 27 2016 08:26 Antisocialmunky wrote: Its a launch title with launch dlcs. How do you resell keys that aren't even out yet? Just CC charge back if they screw up.
Launch title, yes. Launch DLC's. No. Not Day 1.
Unlike what they did with Enemy Unknown they are announcing the DLC ahead of the time which going to be released later on in the future.
Little bummed out there will be no controller support. The steam controller works so much better if they have controller support built in. But they say they are adding it later, so I’ll stumble around till then.
