We are happy to announce Long War Studios, the developers behind the Long War total-conversion mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM: Enemy Within, has partnered with Firaxis Games and 2K for XCOM 2.

Wow. Firaxis are dead serious about their mod support for xcom2

Wouldn’t be shocked if Firaxis is paying them to work on it. When a mod is that popular and there is mod support for the next game, why not just drop a couple bucks to the mod team to make a new version. It is marketing brilliance, honestly.

Interested to see how they adapt it since the "time system" is different and more active in Xcom 2.

Mod will probably be nothing compared to the scale of LW but hopefully shows off some cool modifications possible. More and more excited about the game.

It makes sense to get the most popular mod producers to put out some mods for your new game. And while the LW team may not have been planning to. I expect they got compensated for their time ^^

Maybe Firaxis produces their next game as a result of them making a LW mod for Xcom 2

That seems like a really smart business decisions. Contract the team to produce a popular mod for your new game. See if they can ship(Devs have said previously that biggest problem modders have it working with a deadline) in a reasonable time and are good to work with. If they do well, maybe they help them publish the game the modders are working on.

Everyone wins, from fans to the modders. Plus its cool to see modders getting rewarded for their work.

I doubt they will be doing LW. It's more likely they had been preparing mods to show off at PAX and show off possibilities of the mod support the game will have. Good job Firaxis, good job 2k, and good job LW studios :D

honestly hiring the modders onto the dev team sounds like a nobrainer to me, they would be such a better hire than some other random programmer since they have direct experience working with the game already..
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

Its good to look into for sure. But some modders might not make good contract employees or hires.

i think this is a really good move for the devs because the lw team had previously announced that they planned to leave and work on their own game before this announcement was made

Chances of them creating a Long War mod for Xcom 2 before release is highly highly doubtful.

Just a bunch of different kind of mods by the time Xcom 2 releases. So, no reason to get my hopes up.

i dont even know what people suspect a long war mod for xcom2 to be this early. long war was great because it build on the already existing game and added a ton of fun things on top of it over the course of time. with xcom2 not even released no one knows what the game might be missing.

It's obviously not going to be on the scale of the current long war mod. Nobody is expecting that at all, but knowing the people involved it will keep going after launch.

The have previously said they don't want to work on a Long war mod and want to work on something of their own. Its likely they are only doing this because Farexis is paying them to show off the mod engine.

I would not count on them doing much in modding after release.
