Which is too bad because the Warhammer universe is great. I'd have been so hyped before Rome 2 release... today I'm just hoping that the paying beta they're gonna release won't be too bugged.

I know some people are worried this will become an inevitable cash grab DLC attempt with the other races. I would rather than make 4 fleshed out races that function well and add on more later. Having 8 races with half the depth doesn't really appeal. Plus DLC races means they can keep working on the game after release.

Plus DLC races means they can keep working on the game after release. If you look at CA history you'd know that a good chunk of the DLCs are already finished pre-release, it's just a marketing tactic to milk the consumer for an access without doing any additional work. They usually keep fixing some bugs for sometimes after the release normally. On the other hand no modding confirmed on tw-center, and that sucks big time when you consider the quality of non-mod and modded gameplay :'(

Call me old fashion, but I don't really buy into the pre-release outrage about games. I normally wait until they are released before I pass judgment. This isn't going to be like the other total war games where they can model swap and just change some numbers to create new factions. 4 distinct races with their own models, spells, equipment and massive units seems sufficient for a full release game.

You avoided the worst release they ever made, so I understand your position it was the one I had before buying the beta that was Rome 2.

I think people can be excited about this with the full understanding they are not going to pre-order it. Actually pre-ordering it might be not bad if you get the free dlcs, then you play it only 3months after the release. Most disappointing thing is the lack of support for modding, that sucks big time compared to everything else.

Or do you reckon that they're also changing that up by quite a bit? edit: Note that Shogun II only really had one real faction, and everything else was a variation of it, and it worked pretty well.

I think people can be excited about this with the full understanding they are not going to pre-order it. From the information they have released thus far it looks more like Rome 2 than their good TW games. And I'd rather have them spend another year on the game in order to fully flesh out everything and add more than just those 4 races instead of feeding us piecemeal. And no modding is a big deal as well. It's like they are saying "you folks are too good at fixing out stuff, it makes us look bad" which is true, as sad as it may sound. And it's also in order to shut down any mods that might add races that they want to charge us in future DLCs for. But we'll see, maybe some of the massive amount of negative critique has reached their ears, there's hoping... On April 23 2015 22:04 Plansix wrote: Starcraft has 3 races. Same with Dawn of War. I don't know, that is an interesting question. The green skins don't have a specific territory. Same with the vampire counts, if I remember correctly. So they might section off parts of the empire and dwarven lands to be "occupied" and left the rest of the world "off map" to be added later. The sad part for me is it will be forever before they add wood elves.
