Ok, then I suck. I feel like the early game is so volatile. There are so few options and if you zig when you should zag, that's just it.

I think its really easy to over-extend and then spend the entire midgame running around like a headless chicken trying to defend everything.

But if your running smaller armies to be more spread out you just get rolled when a doom stack shows up.

Was a bit disappointed when I discovered you could only do a MP campaign with 2 ppl and no more. Part of the appeal was that eventually we will have the entire map unlocked with all the factions and a multiplayer campaign in that setting would have been amazing. But looking into it it seems TW has never supported more than 2 player campaign and even then it has always had issues (even when I tried to do one today I could never load into the game, we would launch and then it would 'load' according to the progress bar, but then just take me right back to the lobby and tell my friend that I left).

I think they think that the turns would last too long with multiplayer battles. I have friends that like to make, you know, 6 person Civ campaigns and it does take some time to go through a single turn. It would be a lot longer with battles.

Been playing coop nonstop since release, no problems so far. Once in a blue moon i get a disconnect, load from autosave, and move on.

About the barracks. It's kind of tricky, you always have to look what buildings will require more than III on your province's capitals and plan ahead. For example, dwarfs i know i want one province for melee crap, and another for ranged crap. Oh, and the best to build first is growth. Always, later you can stop to drop them, but it should be your first building most of the time, as + growth, faster upgrade to lvl II the whole province then move on into money.

I'm in my first campaign as the Empire right now. I've confederated everyone except 1 faction (although it is a military ally and is literally one city), and I'm friendly with the brets and dwarfs right now. Not at war with vampires either, which is really nice. There were so many cities I could just walk into and take over the ruins in the north, so that's exactly what I did. And I kept kicking the odd chaos army here and there back, so they stopped attacking me. I spent like 20 turns just building nothing but buildings to make those cities actually productive, suddenly there's 8 chaos armies landing and taking everything back. Currently in the process of pushing those armies back (after having to make new armies to replace the ones of mine that died -_-), so I can do it all over again, while simultaneously working on beating back the vampiric influences to my east.

It's quite interesting. I know there is the whole "easy, normal, hard" difficulties thing, but it kinda feels like it adapts to how well you're doing, and gets harder if you're doing better, while getting easier if you're not.

I played Vampire counts and named my save game Mannfred and Sons. Hee.

I tried a Greenskins campaign on Hard difficulty with the restriction that the only units I could train are Goblins or Goblin related (trolls allowed). Unfortunately as soon as you start WAAAGH-ing, Greenskins are a train with no brakes, game is deathly easy. Even if you never make a single Orc unit.

I played a tiny bit of Warriors of Chaos but they're boring. I dislike horde factions in general (can't group up stacks without trouble, losing a battle = losing a significant piece of your empire, not me thing) so I stopped quickly. Archaon's a baller though.

The Vampire Count campaign (Very Hard difficulty) has been a fucking rollercoaster though. Vamps can't mass expand since they're hamstrung by several factors. Firstly Public Order's extremely difficult to maintain because they have to corrupt territories and the ai loves deploying the anti corruption police to all your regions. Recommend training up Banshees with Assassination talents to kill them all. Empire are absurd, they'll have 12 or so Heroes running about, the fuckers.

Second, you're surrounded by enemies and you cannot make friends. VC's have huge penalties to everyone that's not also a vampire. And since you'll probably devour the 2 neighbouring Vamp factions you're not going to find anyone to use those trade goods with.

So what's happened is that I slowly grew out my borders, swallowing up a few minor empire Factions. Then Chaos showed up and left vast tracts of colonizeable space. 15 colonisations later (I defeated Chaos too, single handed, Mannfred Von Carstein: saviour of the Old World) and I've got to take on the military alliance of Dwarves, Empire and Bretonnians.

Game's pretty good!

Liking the game so far. Not very good at TW games but started an Empire game on hard and wound up fighting Marienburg 20 turns in, took their main city and instantly the stupid norse fuckers up north declared and sent 3 full stacks at me. Wound up cleaning them up with some difficulty and now i'm just struggling to hold them and their never ending stacks off and Chaos just appeared. Probably restart time soon!

A million times better than Rome 2 release.

To be honest, there even tho you have diplomatic penalties, there is nothing that money can't overcome easilly in that regard.

Hey guys, looking into the game, how long is the average playthrough would you say? Im worried there's not as much replay- ability as something like Civ or EU4, with 4 factions, if it's like 10 hours per playthrough, seems like after 40 hours i would have seen everything the game has to offer. Any insight on this stuff would be great, thanks.

I won a long victory on my initial Empire campaign on hard in ~33 hours, although you could probably shave a few hours off from idling.

Damn that's a pretty lengthy run, i am intrigued sir. So many games to play these days, hard to pull the trigger when a week or two has a new one your interested in! 1st world problems right here.

if you abuse the auto resolve i guess you can do a campaign in 8 hours since the battles take quite a lot of time and also autoresolve is broken and most of the time gives fewer losses than actual manual battles.


which they really should fix, this game is about the battles but for achievement hunting you would probably almost never do a battle manually.

That is certainly not the case for the Vampire Counts. I lose way way more on autoresolve, esp Valgulfh lose almost all their hp every time.

So I was playing a battle vs teh orcs and they were all invisible. I marched forward a little bit and suddenly the entire army is right in front of me. Not a ways a way in front of me. I mean literally right in front of me. Is this an ambush stance or some shit?

Trees can hide units? Else I don't know. You can hide armies on the campaign map but there is no ambush on the battle map outside of hiding in trees or out of LoS.

Could be a wierd hill?

About invisibility, that depends on units ( i think some gobbos can stealth) and the weather. Played a battle where i couldn't see crap until the enemy was right on top of me.

Chaos campaign on legendary should be renamed to Total war : Benny Hill ...

It's hilarious how the AI goes crazy chasing weak armies if they are on war with you... they come from the other side of the world just to club the baby seal hordes you just created for fucks sake.

There are a few things I wish they would change:

-It's a little difficult to reinforce your armies. The global reinforce is nice, but if I want to build units in my main province then walk them out to the main army, I don't really have any choice but to have a lord handhold them out.

-Runes and Banners don't stay on the units from battle to battle. I think they should at least give a prompt if you forget so you don't go into battle without them.
