Meh hes not really the only man doing anything. Hes just the spokesperson. I doubt much changes.

Well, to be honest, their communication with the community pre-GC was really fucking atrocious, so I hope they have someone else do his job properly.

EDIT: holy shit, mmo-champion is a toxic wastedump of vileness.

GC brought the game an actual balanced (or should I say, mostly) class system that every class and every spec is useful, and is one of the rare high profile developers who communicate with players in a sincere way, he is one of the most important person in WoW's golden age, the game will never be the same without him.

I remember mocking GC a lot back when I was extremely frustrated in WotLK arena, but looking back, it was amazing how he was constantly in communication with the public regardless of how much shit was flung at him. Definitely a loss for WoW.

Masq PM'd me with a good idea; If you are at all interested in a WoW TL guild, we are going to meet up around 4:30-5 pst today in the irc channel #TL-WoW to discuss a good server for folks to reroll on in anticipation of WoD. Please join us!

Yeah, never read the comments on MMO-C, ever.

There are basicly only 3 types of armor in WoD. Plate/Leather/Cloth.

But when you look at it your actually more likely to get gear in this model that before. You used to have 4 different Plate Bracers drop. You had to hope that your type dropped and then you competed with the specs who shared that item. But you could get unlucky and get 8 holy bracers in a row without having an actual holy pala. Now when a bracer drops it will always be usable by you. Sure it might not have the ideal stat combination of crit/haste ect but its still better then int bracers for a DK.

What will likely happen is that guilds in a new tier will assign there loot based on ideal stats, so you try and match the best combination to the spec that wants those stats and some will get sub optimal combinations who then wait for the next raid and a new set of drops to get a better upgrade.
It will lead to more upgrades as you farm content because of the greater stat variance while reducing a lot of gearing complications.
There are no real caps on stats anymore (aside from spirit for mana users and haste for energy/rune regen) because Dots/Hots now get partial ticks between breakpoints. So you just have a stat priority list of for example Crit>Haste>Mastery and you replace lesser pieces as better onces drop.

Will do, and I expect it'll take more than one meeting the night before Thanksgiving here in the States to make a decision anyhow

Won't be able to make it but please pick Horde, I don't care which server I''ll transfer a toon over. But the old TL guild was on Ner'Zhul and thats where all my 90s are lol.
Y'know sometimes people ask me y'know like "What's your religion and stuff?" And I'm like "y' know it's like RTS." Uh, and they're like, "What's that?" And I'm like, "Y'know it's kinda like, kinda like Buddism."

^haha duly noted

After discussing things with some folks in irc, we've decided to get the ball rolling in forming an official TL WoW guild. The first and most important step is getting an accurate idea as to how many people would be interested and in what capacity. It is very important to note that the current PTR is testing patch 5.4.2, which is due to release fairly soon and will include cross-server heirloom trading, so keep that in mind when weighing your interest in rolling a new toon or transferring an old one in the event that we get this off the ground. Also worthy of note is that we are looking into the possibility that Blizzard gives us some sort of group transfer deal, though this is highly unlikely so don't hold your breath. So, if you have even a passing interest in gaming with your fellow TL folk in Azeroth, send me a PM.

If you are interested in a TL Wow Guild:

Send me a pm entitled "TL wow guild" with the following: (don't worry about including battletag, it should already be in Pandemona's post!)

Regions (Oceanic,US-East, etc) you can connect to without bad ping (leave blank if unsure):
Play a current toon/roll a new one (Choose one or both ):
Prefer Horde/Alliance/or either (Choose one):
Interested in: raiding ( y / n ), pvp ( y / n ), other stuff ( y / n ):
Additional concerns/interests/questions:

You can copy/paste this into the pm and then edit it.

In a practical sense, we do need a fair amount of interest in order for this to work, so, even if you have reservations, shoot me a PM and let me know what you're thinking! The more responses we get, the more likely we are to make this happen.

Some of us don't exactly like the lack of niches or this 'everyone can do everything' environment, but there's no use in starting that debate up now. However, GC will be missed all the same because he was quite the talkative crab.

Agreed. GC did an excellent job in improving WoW. His design-sense is remarkable.

I wrote a review of his tenure in leading WoW systems design here.

I kinda disagree with the idea that talents have been improved in MoP as compared to, in particular, Cataclysm (although I personally preferred WotLK, it wasn't exactly balanced between classes, or even talent trees). Sure, there were cookie cutter specs, but at least the choices felt like actual meaningful choices. I just got back into the game yesterday, and started on my hunter alt. I got to choose whether I wanted to improve disengage by removing movement impairing effects, snaring opponents or doing something else. I really couldn't give a crap about that choice.

Looking at the warlock talents they are similarly pointless. Maybe for PvP these make a large difference, but for PvE it seems like you are choosing between 6 of one or half a dozen of the other.

EDIT: this doesn't have anything to do with GC, btw. I don't think you can credit GC with all the good things in WoW, and nor can you blame him for everything that you don't like. WoW has a big development team.

That's what it may look like first but when you get back to the game and play a bit more you'll notice you'll be switching talents. Let's take the first tier of hunter for example, on Dark Shamans HC you want the talent which reduces cd of deterrence so you're able to use it always when Iron Prison is about to hit you(a spell which does 100% of your hp in physical damage) and then for example in Thok you want Posthaste so you can run away from him when he fixates on you. That's not to say that the problem of "this talent is always the right/best choice" is completely gone but it's a lot better now. There's few tiers in every tree which lets you pick what you prefer as well which is nice, like for example Priest self healing talents, do you want on use heal or a passive shield? Also they've done pretty good job in this expansion balancing out talents whenever there has been a pick this talent always, best in every situation one.

Also going into WoD there's a potential to play around talents much more as well. MC which is rather iconic spell was moved into talent tree in MoP and some priests were pretty upset about that. I for one thought we'd see more uses for that spell but that unfortunately wasn't the case. Only time I've used it was last season when disc/feral was ridiculously stupid and overpowered in 2s. However now that raids are 20man in WoD and designed with at least one class in every raid I'd imagine we'll see fights like High King Maulgar and that's plus in my books(I know some mages still have horrible nightmares from having to do something else than dps :p).

Okay. I'll take your word for it

High King Maulgar was fucking awesome, although I still have nightmares about wiping the raid when the fucking felhounds would resist being enslaved, run rampant and kill everybody.

Talking about ranged tanking: Kael'thas had quite a bit of that too... Leotheras (the one I was thinking of initially) and Illidan (although I don't think warlock tanking on Illidan actually worked too well).

Funny they removed all of that kind of funny fights in WotLK

Talking about ranged tanking: Kael'thas had quite a bit of that too... and there was some boss in the Black Temple as well that was better to tank with a lock than a tank.

Funny they removed all of that kind of funny fights in WotLK

IIRC WotLK had a fight that should or at least could be done with a ranged tank, the 3 blood mages?

MC which was rather iconic spell was moved into talent tree in MoP and some priests were pretty upset about that. I for one thought we'd see more uses for that spell but that unfortunately that wasn't the case.

Oh yeah, that's right. Had to go running around to find dark nucleii and then drain tank him. Forgot about that fight.
