lowry, derozan, landry, bargnani, big v should be the starting lineup.
I think the bench depth is where they become a decent team, calderon, terrence ross, kleiza, ed davis, amir johnson, two deep at every location (if ross can actually play).
its not a great team, but if casey has then in defensive mindset they might make the playoffs. they have a ton of assets they might be able to flip for a player, but colangelo doesn't seem like the type to risk his future on it.

I love being a laker fan because guess what. Dr. buss has basically shit on the luxury taxes to bring us championships. Do you think a single laker fan gives a shit about saving dr. buss money? Do you think Dr. Buss gives a shit about saving himself money if it means not winning championships? god. Reading these comments just reaffirms I love where I live. Have to admit that watching the Knicks does make you appreciate being a Lakers fan. Both are in huge markets and have owners who are willing to spend a LOT of money, but that's where the comparison ends. Yes, the Lakers do have advantages over smaller market teams, but the Knicks prove that being in a large market and having an owner willing to spend doesn't guarantee anything. The Lakers as I've said time and time again always turn even their worst assets into something. They never let anything go for free.
What can I say, we hire good GM's, Kupchak is a fucking BOSS, and the Buss family has treated the citizens of LA very well.
In other news, Lakers signed Antawn Jamison for the Veteran MINIMUM. That's a fucking steal for someone who can come off the bench, play 20-25 minutes, and be a legitimate scorer off the bench. Tommy Beer tweeted it best, last year only 9 players averaged over 17 points and 1.3 3ptm. Kobe was one, and Jamison was another. He may be old but we're not asking him to start, and think about it, he averaged more ppg than Harden....
I'm actually excited to see how good Irving turns out in the Cavs. Kyrie was a fucking beast last season. Hope the Cavs put together something nice for the citizens of Cleveland.

Softest team in the NBA. The only thing I'm curious about is Valanciunas and if he measures up to the hype.
An improved year for the Raptors, but they be pushing for an 8th seed at best. Lotto more likely.

8th seed is playoff team hell, you're good enough to make playoffs, but not good enough to get draft picks for next season. I dunno if that's a good thing, and chances are MIA or CHI will be #1 seeds again on east, and lets be real, even this improved/young TOR team isn't gonna do shit to those two teams. first round exit followed by shitty draft incoming.
|
If your team if full of young and underdeveloped players then 8th seed means trouble in the future for the other teams. Look at Indiana.

dwane casey is actually a decent defensive coach, and although they are soft at a few positions, their respective backups, or starters are gritty. lowry for calderon, ed davis for bargs, amir johnson is also a foul out every game player.
I'm actually surprised they got rid of james johnson, he was on of their better wing defenders, I guess they are hoping derozan and fields can make a jump on that side of the ball.
I don't think they are that soft, and I'm one of the biggest critics of toronto, I feel they are very middle of the pack though. we will see how they come along defensively, because offensively this team has some good tools.
|
Toronto look very Milwaukee to me: gritty middle of the road team without any star talent... And that isn't a good thing.
|
Indiana is so overrated at this point. I look at their roster and remain unimpressed. Cap space is nice but it's just an above average team, that's it. It's not even a "cheap" above average team with Roy Hibbert, Danny Granger and David West (expiring) breaking 10 million each. George Hill at 8? With the trade of Collison, that makes Paul George the only low-rent quality guy they have.
If this team becomes good because of free agents or trades, it'll have more to do with good cap management than any of the talent they currently have on hand.

Beal's shooting was disappointing in the summer league but his ball-handling was top-notch (for summer league rookie standards). Bizarre.

Btw, anyone else feel like Batum is overpriced at the reported contract of $46.5M over 4 years with a $1.5M signing bonus? He's a good player, but I don't know if he's that good. I'm too lazy to do the research, but one article I saw listed some other salaries for comparsion, including Gallinari ($42M/4yrs), Ilyasova ($40M/5yrs), and Ryan Anderson ($36M/4yrs).

He's a strong wing defender, efficient shooter and young. I think the the apt comparison is Gallo and I'd take Batum over Gallo. Overpaid? Probably, but not grossly. It's a shame he didn't go to Minny. They would have been really good next year with Batum on their roster.

I heard Kwame Brown is going to be the starting C for the 76ers this upcoming year...
What is going on in Philadelphia?

Portland was complaining that it was a massive overpay but I think in the end they were either stuck with letting him go or sucking it up to keep him.

Am I too late to hop onboard the Jeremy Lin to the Rockets party train1?
|
They're clearing space for the FA class of 2013. If they were going to sign Kwame it would be a one year deal and no more.
Notable FAs in 2013: Chris Paul Dwight Monta Iggy Harden Josh Smith Ibaka Milsap Bynum
2014 is even crazier. LeBron, Bosh, Melo, Wade, Deng, Dirk, Kobe, Pau, Bogut...
You could argue most of those guys will re-sign with their teams (which is probably true) but there could be some massive FA signings in the next two years which is why teams like the 76ers will probably just tank this year and the next with minimal salary or 1 years deals in hopes of landing someone big.
Look at Dallas for example. They're going to make some big plays in the coming two years.
And looks like Philly is too.

Speaking about overrated players, Javale Mcgee re-signed with Denver for $44m/4.
|
wtf that's a lot of money, Mcgee better preform like he did during the playoff.
|
All I remember is McGee getting abused by Bynum.
Another overpaid, soft big.
|
I know this is late, but still- man will it be cool to see Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen playing on the same team again! Reminds of the days when they played together on the sonics... but this time they'll be role players rather than focal points.
