Even if it can be "hard to get to dark phoenix," the fact it is an instant win in the hands of a competant player is bullshit. If something is hard to master, but if you master it you are unbeatable, then it is inevitable that when somebody masters it you break the game.
No wonder he doesn't lose.

FlipChamp's Dorm team is arguably better. He's making Phoenix look good, not the other way around.

he often doesnt even need to get to dark phoenix, because his regular jean grey is amazing anyway

James Chen beats Jason Cole 3-0. How on Earth...

It's an uphill struggle to get into position for a Dark Phoenix win.
Also, Filipino Champ's Magneto and Doom are both very, very good. It's those two doing the setup work needed for Phoenix to clean up.

LOL Marlinpie got random'd out. A name like Don323 just screams nobody.

It's not an instant win though? Obviously phoenix is very very heavily favored against the rest of the cast (if she gets xf3+5 meters), but it's not an auto-win. It's way in dark phoenix's favor at that point, but a shit load of anti-phoenix tech exists that you have to account for, tech that a lot of players seem to have gotten lazy on since ultimate came out. There's a reason why mostly everyone dropped phoenix... hell even champ has played dormammu in place of phoenix for the majority of matches lol. You can get wins with her even though you're an inferior player, but you can also lose with her even though you're a superior player. She's more like an unholy gamble than anything. A gamble that is more and more in phoenix favor if the opponent doesn't have the counters ready of course.

randomed out 3-0? nope. half the 'big names' in this tournament were nobodies 1-2 years ago. evo is where you make your name.

Yeah, 3-0 is more 'exposed' than 'randomed'.

This x100. PR Rog was a nobody in 2009 until he made top 8 in SF4.

Phoenix loses to so many top chars like strider, vergil, morrigan, zero, doom/ammy, etc. if you kill the first 2 chars, phoenix only has about three bars of meter. when you play phoenix you lose an assist and the ability to use supers. there is so much tech to beat phoenix like snap back, tac to take away meter, xfactor set ups with spidey, command grab supers, etc. just watch the usa v japan at fgtv house. champ played twice, got dark phoenix but still lost. she is a high risk high reward character. honestly, if you let a player get dark phoenix, youre not playing the match right

Richard Nguyen playing real solid against Yipes. Don't choke like last year, Dickwin.
edit: not exactly a choke, but got opened up.

/rage It's not like Mamespider blew him up at the FGTV house when he tried the exact same strategy, or that anti-Phoenx tech actually exists, or that FChamp actually stopped maining his Phoenix team because he claimed it wasn't worth the hassle. And it's not like DP was deliberately nerfed because it was even worse last year. Go whine about Chris G's Soul Fist spam + Hidden Missiles, or how Zero can kill any character off one touch.
Way to miss the point. What i'm saying is that is bad game design to create something so obscenely powerful but balance it by making it "difficult to get to." That is because eventually somebody will find a way (see FChamp) to effectively and consistently get to that point and abuse the fact there is a blatantly overpowered character.
Yes, Morrigan, Zero, Vergil and a few others are also complete bullshit. Basically what i'm saying is this is hard to watch as a casual observer b/c of the blatant imbalances and and the high number of "cheap tactics."
The only thing that keeps me watching is 1. the hope that Zero May Cry/Phoenix players lose and 2. to get some decent fights later on when both sides have blatantly OP teams.

i hope yipes does well. i think he's one of the best players but hasnt been able to win a major yet

That still does not detract that this guy is a nobody now. lol Of course you make your name at EVO if you do well, and to be quite honest there were no strangers in MvC3 Top 16 last year, all of Top 8 were easily established veterans. PR Rog wasn't even called "Puerto Rican Balrog" when he made Top 8 under like some name under the vVv clan I think. I was cheering for MarlinPie too...guess that secret tech wasn't much help lol.
