At the end of the day Evo and FGC are not about ad revenue potential.

It's interesting how people coming from exclusively "eSports" perspective look at FGC events. For example, MLG's Dmaq compared Evo to slavery because of the small prize pools. This is not a league, it can barely be considered a business. All of these events happen because people in the community love the games.

This is one of the main disconnects that some people at the top of pro gaming leagues and such have with the fighting game community: not realizing that it is primarily a player based scene and that offering bigger payouts for 0.01% of the player base is a poor selling point to the other 99.99%. Bigger prizes is fine, fancy production value is fine, but that can't be your all you're selling.

Without large pay outs for 1st there is little reason to send a team to a tourny because then the prize wont even cover the cost of travel, in large part that's why you don't see Japanese players outside of evo just because it's not worth the cost of travel. So in the end like all pro things it's about money the more money going into these things the more the pay outs can be for like 1-5, which can be split between the teams if they have good enough people to take those spots.

You do realize that if i quote you it doesn't mean i have to make a direct response to what you posted, anyways your remark is silly if you don't understand how competitive pro games work. All you have to do is look at traditional games, like basketball or football and then ask yourself why or how bigger prizes help grow a scene. If you don't understand admiration and emulation then you'll never understand how ads work on people nor will you understand how more money in a prize pool attracts more players to compete and thus more people to shine and attract others. Pro games is about money that's what makes it pro, money to players money to companies sponsoring events and players coming from envious/amazed viewers.

Okay, so why are you saying it, then?

As for the rest, you appear to have missed my point entirely.

How is something like Phoenix allowed in a competitive game? It's like giving an Odin to Terran if he survives the 15min mark.

Even if it can be "hard to get to dark phoenix," the fact it is an instant win in the hands of a competant player is bullshit. If something is hard to master, but if you master it you are unbeatable, then it is inevitable that when somebody masters it you break the game.

No wonder he doesn't lose.

Man Chris G's Morrigan/Doom Missiles vs. a Phoenix team...nah, will just wait for the next match. ChrisG can dismantle Phoenix easily anyway.

It's not like Mamespider blew him up at the FGTV house when he tried the exact same strategy, or that anti-Phoenx tech actually exists, or that FChamp actually stopped maining his Phoenix team because he claimed it wasn't worth the hassle. And it's not like DP was deliberately nerfed because it was even worse last year. Go whine about Chris G's Soul Fist spam + Hidden Missiles, or how Zero can kill any character off one touch.
