Why not? It was suggested on HF boards and honestly, it makes a lot more sense then what they're planning on now. The only obvious downside to it is possibly having long distance Playoff matchups in the early rounds, but I'd prefer having that to having the 12th place team in the NHL miss the playoffs (As what would have happened last year in LA). For the past few years the West has been better overall than the East, yet there are 8 teams in both of the western conferences, while 7 in the eastern. With a wildcard system it pretty much guarantees the 16 best teams in the NHL make the playoffs.

The board of governors would never approve that. Remember how the vote was 26-4 (Leafs siding with the League on this one). Well it would be the total opposite.

The WC system let alone Bo5 series prior was thrown out the window right away. They spoke about it during HNIC.

Apprently the method of setting the 3rd round of the playoffs where all 4 division champs would meet is still under discussion. Apprently the threat of a Dallas/Anaheim stanley cup finals is terrifying enough to counter the ratings buzz of a Pittsburg/Boston finals.

I still think the only logical method is reseeding the champs. So its gonna ahve to happen

That is how the AHL does it.

Just finished watching the Canes - Oil game....

The effort the Oilers displayed tonight was just simply unnacceptable.

I can deal with losing. I can deal with being outhit or anything like that. But you know what I can't deal with? Being outworked on every single friggen puck battle.

Despite the fact that it wasn't the reason we lost the game, the officiating tongiht was even more of a joke than our effort was. What a debacle.

You'd think a bunch of athletes getting paid to compete would compete instead of rolling over and dying. This whole team aside from RNH, Eberle, Gagner, Eager, Petrell, Sutton and Pecks were passengers. Even then Sutton, Eager and Pecks ended up hurting their team because the officials had em in the box all game for ticky tacky BS.

This is a team that has been 30th place two years in a row, and this game was honestly one of the worst efforts I've seen in a looong loong time. Just unnacceptable.

Yep. That was a pretty pathetic effort from most of the team. Dubnyk wasn't exactly great but with little help infront of him cannt really pin it on the goalie.

Theo Peckham does not belong in the NHL. He's to slow, takes reallly dumb penalties at even worse times and cannt make a break out pass to save his life. When he's on the ice its like the other team has another skater.

Bye bye Andy Sutton for what is likly to be another 5 games. This one he acctually earned though by jumping into a hit.

Of course with the seeminly random decession making of Shannahan, Alexei Ponikarovsky might get suspended two games for diving.

There we go, the Oilers had a great bounce back night tonight against the Avs.

All I have to say is damn RNH is slick, and I really hope Gagner keeps up his pace (10 points in his last 9 games) because I like the guy as a player.

Oh, that and I don't think Hemsky is going to be an Oilers next year unless he figures it out. He has the worst body language, doesn't even bother with puck battles, and coughs up the puck atleast twice every shift. I'd say he is just going through the motions, but even that would be a little too liberal. Honestly, one Hall's healthy I'd rather see him on the third or fourth line than in a top six roll.

Hemsky has kinda always been a streaky player. He had a few moments today of pure brilliance though they were outnumbered by carelessness and turnovers. Once Hall gets back I acctually do expect Hemsky to play 3rd line minutes for us until Gagner cools off or another injury.

I wouldn't mind seeing a game where Hemsky skates with RNH and Eberle just too see if that might spark him. He doesn't get much chance to play with over-the-top talent regularly and Hemsky is the kind of guy who may thrive in that situation.
And if its an epic failure, well, it was just one game!

I dunno, I guess I'm a spoiled Oilers fan. Hemsky is a legitimate top six forward (one of twenty unique players to have a point per game pace since the lockout) who has the ability to change games all by himself, but he doesn't doesn't seem to fit. He seems like he is pouting because he isn't the go to guy anymore, which is kind of frustrating because you'd think that would make him want to go out there and score more or something.

He has the worst body language I've ever seen in a hockey player for a very long time... and this is a guy whose watched a team finish last two years straight. Idk, maybe he is still getting over his injury from last year...

I'm just tired of watching him cough up the puck twice every shift. Kills momentum.

I understand where your coming from and also agree with you. I do belive his frustration really stems from his constant barrage of injuries. I'm sure by now he is sick of talking about his shoulder and listening to him talk about it you can really hear in his voice he hates the subject. Take this except from an interview after the Flames game on the 3rd
Ales Hemsky is aware he needs to shoot the puck more often, but according to the Edmonton Oilers winger, it’s not that cut and dry.

“I would like to, but I’m still dealing with some stuff (shoulder) and I can’t shoot every time,” Hemsky said prior to Saturday’s game against the Calgary Flames. “It’s something in my head I need to improve and I think I’ll have to start shooting more. If you want to score goals, you have to shoot the puck.”

I don't disagree on this instance. Jumping at a playing is bad and he jumped at a guy.

His hit on Landskog however was clean and shouldn't have even been a penalty

Landskog's was dumb as shit too, a pretty clear chicken wing. You don't get much more blatant with elbows unless you're Dale Hunter.

Sutton is a piece of shit and I really wouldn't have blinked if he went into the double digits. 30 is probably too high but he's a big enough shitstain that I wouldn't really care

Pretty solid. My buddy was a Jets fan and moved out to the west coast for a few years and would do this each Sunday when the Jets played. It's really hard to have a bad day when you're drinking as the sun rises and watching sports.

Did anyone watch 24/7?? It was awesome
