At what point does looking dangerous every game stop mattering when you don't score? Watching the Oilers is quite exciting and they look like they could score damn near every time they are in the other teams end.

But they don't. I know its only 3 and 2/3rds games in but still...

That game was simply beautiful.

Not only did we play a solid system, but we played it confidently. We had great puck support in our own zone, in the neutral zone, and in the predators zone. We dug deep and out worked the predators all not.... not for 20, 40, no a full 60 minutes.

Our work in our own zone was wonderful, we didn't have anyone chasing and kept the predators to the outside. In addition to being boxxed out, the preds got outworked on the boards all over the ice. The most impressive part of it was how hard all of our forwards pressed back into our own zone. Literally the predators didn't have a single scoring chance, the goal that did go in was a softy on a shot that handcuffed him.

The transition game was great, we had defenceman making good lead passes, forwards doing simple give and go plays and not forcing anything. Not only that, but we were consistently able to get it in the Nashville zone deep with forwards coming in with speed. Once we got into the Preds zone, we beat them on the boards, skated circles around them, and were able to generate consistant scoring chances and shots on net. We had pucks getting in behind them making them turn and chase... being able to do that against such a strong defensive team like the Predators is just remarkable.

In addition to all of the above, we had terrific special teams as well. 20% on the powerplay with good movement and shot generation is about all you can ask for, then holding the opponent off the board on the PP while limiting shots is about as good as it is.

The game tonight gave me chills. These kids are going to be a force going forward.

I realised all that but all that work at the time was not resulting in anything. Against Pittsburg and Minnesota it didn't mean much either. With how strong the play has been from them so far I'd expect like 3-4 goals on most nights. They only got 3 vs Vancouver(EN goals really don't count, sorry) and the rest 2 or 1.

Sick stat though, Nashville had 0 shots on their last 3 PP's. THAT is unheard of with who they have at point.

I wouldn't worry about it, the kids are sick talented, they are generating shots... its a numbers thing. Over the coarse of 82 games 10% of shots will go in, we are getting the shots and limiting the opponents, so I have no concern really.

Btw, I know it is early in the season, but seeing as the Oilers have the third best GA/G average... I'd say the fact that Khabbibulin has the best GAA and SV% in the league makes what I was saying earlier about team defence being more important than goaltenders.

It is an especially strong argument in my opinion because the Oilers were so weak defensively last year and have improved greatly this year in their own end while keeping the same goaltending tandem that was "the worst in the league" last year.
