Does everyone who has played the original Final Fantasy know about the "secret spot" for leveling? The place where you can fight end game level mobs at low levels. Honestly, I think it was the best built in bug ever. I made so much money once I had enough damage to kill off the occasional 4x giants that you can face. + Show Spoiler +

Damn I love these games. I'm getting nostalgic just seeing the numbers.

Gonna give my ratings of each in the main numbered series (Not including sequels):

VII > VI > IX > X > XI > III > XIII > XII > The rest.

XII For some reason I severely disliked 12 (In comparison to the rest, I still love XII). I know the combat was awesome for some people, but the story was mind numbingly boring and none of the characters have got a quarter of the attention of other characters in the other games.

VII literally is the best all round experience a FF game has given IMO. The whole way around the world meeting so many different characters with their own stories and problems culminating in a single cause. I have cleared this one around 10 times easily. Grew up on it and played it through twice before finally clearing all content, then replaying basically every other year since. VII has the most "big" moments, rivaled only by VI and IX.

IX was awesome because everyone had their own problems and reasons for being with the group but they were all so unique and interesting. Also probably one of the FF's with more mature content.

VI was unbelievable. Story blows my mind as well as the characters. Combat also enjoyable as every character has different skills.

XIII was graphically awesome.

X combat in it was probably one of my favorites, but the story just didn't match some of the others. The Aeons in this game, especially + Show Spoiler +
Anima / Magus Sisters
were awesome. Pain was one of the coolest moves ever in a FF series.

OCRemix are making one 4 disc FFVI soundtrack. Awesome, due to a successful kickstarter

I played final fantasy tactics after I played a bunch of Fire Emblem games, and honestly, I felt FF tactics didn't stack up in terms of turn based strategy games to Fire Emblem, although I did appreciate the differences.

My favorite FF game is an unofficial FF game: Lost Odyssey. Not a part of the series but made by a lot of the same guys.

I know this is late but I just had to comment on Lost Odyssey. I absolutely hated Lost Odyssey. I put maybe thirty hours into that damn game and I can't for the life of me remember one significant thing. It was a beautiful game to look at, for sure, and the immortal idea was a good one if overplayed and underwhelming. Those kids just grated on my nerves.

The best part of Lost Odyssey was the White Rabbit trailer.

The art style reminds me of a gritty Kingdom Hearts which is terrible in that everything (and weapons especially) looks hollow and bulky like ceramic toys. I've never played a game that looks so good and so awful all at once. One-dimensional characters. Cliched villains. Boring world. I'd almost say the old LOTR JRPG is better except I can't even remember what it's called.

I wanted to like Lost Odyssey, really I did. Bleh.

The gameplay was a lot better than most FF games, and the story was good until around half way in, when it took a trip down the toilet. (Developers somehow decided that a JRPG has to be cliched?)

Regardless, I liked the setting a lot, and the dreams and the main characters. The kids didn't bug me that much, because at least the only annoying characters are children, the other characters weren't over the top "WHY ME!?" emo schmucks bemoaning their place in life like most FF games. The dreams were great.

I loved Lost Odyssey as soon as I got to the first boss and he raped me and forced me to step back and plan a strategy. Most of the fights in the game can't simply be brute-forced by the same shit. Everyone has to fulfill their role and you need to plan a few turns in a head due to cast times and the like. It's far more interesting combat-wise than any other RPG in recent memory.

Cooke and Mack can suck it, but yeah, everyone else is awesome, especially Jansen. And the Thousand Years of Dreams sequences are masterpieces. I especially loved the one about the old shoemaker. If you didn't enjoy that one you lack a soul.

The overall story was meh, but I fucking loved that game. I hope they make a sequel.

Yeah man, the first two bosses in that game kicked my ass horribly the first time I fought them, and most bosses in the game (not all, but most) beat me at least once the first time I fought them until I knew what they did and figured out how to adjust to it.

Formation Paralysis was a fun mechanic =p.

You should really play the first final fantasy tactics for playstation. Seven is easily one of my favorites too, but FFT was a lot more enjoyable for me. I enjoyed the plot more, the characters more, and the gameplay ha. For me its fft > 6 = 7 P
We have multiple brackets generated in advance. Relax . (Kennigit) I just simply do not understand how it can be the time to play can be 22nd at 9:30 pm PST / midnight the 23rd at the same time. (GGzerg)

Ogre Battle 64 is amazing too, one of the most underappreciated games of all time.
Life is too short to take it seriously.

Have played tactics too. Wasn't really including it as part of my ratings above but really really good game. Loved it, and as someone said, fairly similar to vandal hearts, which were also quite fun!

Yeah, I think its wrong to rank tactics among the main series. It isn't even the same genre. It's like saying your favorite color is strawberries.

yeah, I always find it weird for people to include tactics in ff discussion, may as well include mass effect and the witcher.

i'm still playing FF6 too.. played it like 3 times but had never completed them, thanks to save data corruption.

although i replayed FF7 the most, but i still think FF6 is better..

many fans are asking for a 3D remake of FF6, but i doubt SquareEnix is gonna make that.. even the recently announced FF7 is just a port'ed version of the original with achievement system..

If you like the FF series I would highly highly recommend the Tales series as well, especially Tales of Symphonia for the GCN.

Just throwing that out there. ^^ Enjoy!

That sounds fun, I played 16 hours of FF6 today. I'm almost maxed out and got 95% of all the top tier gear. My stat maxing could have been better and I'm playing on a keyboard so I can't use Sabin well.

I haven't played FFX since I was 15-17 or so. It's probably great again with speed boosting emulation to skip sequences.
