I grew up watching my cousin who was a year older and whose parents bought him lots of video games play through those two and enjoyed them vicariously. Have always wanted to finish the games myself though. Recently purchased and watched Advent Children Complete on BluRay. This version is sooo much better than the original (approx 30 min more footage and some edits to certain scenes), and the extras that basically took you down memory lane for the FFVII universe did a great job of reminding me how great FFVII was and making me curious about trying those games I missed (Crisis Core and Dirge, although I heard they weren't great). meh, the game was good but AC...... Square just isn't good at making movies man. and considering how bad the other Final Fantasy Movie was, I think Square should start focusing on what they're supposed to do, making new decent games ffs.

I loved the movie. And the extended version they released is amazing as well. About 30 minutes of extra stuff and a bunch of added scenes. The English voices aren't that great but they don't kill the movie either. It's pretty much like playing ff7 without actually playing it (if you've already played it once).

Also, I've played the remakes of FF1, FF2, and FF3. I've beaten FF1, FF2, FF6, FF7, FF8, FF10, and Crisis Core. I also beat the remakes of 1 and 2. I own FF1 for the NES (yes I have the original) and FF8 for PC, and I'll probably pick up FF7 when it comes out on steam, though I really want the HD update for FF7 so I can get that. I used to own Crisis Core until my PSP broke. I had emulators for 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. And my younger brother has the remake of 3. I still really like the original, 6, 7, and 8. I would have a hard time picking a favorite out of those. I really liked the draw and junction system in 8. I liked the materia system in 7. I didn't mind the limited spells per day approach of FF1, and I disliked how they switched to a MP system for the remakes as that made the game too easy. FF2 had the worst leveling system ever invented, but I still went ahead and beat that game. EDIT: I completely forgot about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. I used to own it and I beat it.

The remakes of 2 and 3 I believe are retarded because you have a forced fight every x amount of steps. So if you're low on health or whatever you can't hope to get lucky with no battles. You'll be forced into them.

Should give it a try someday. or watch a let's play.

If I want to play a T. B. S., then I'll play Fire Emblem (yes I know Fire Emblem is technically a Turn based Strategy RPG), Advance Wars, or Civilization. So because it's a turn based with a final fantasy name you wont play it? You seem to enjoy TBS games, but because it has FF in it you won't play? I'm not really following your logic. FF12, 13, and 13-2 is not "FF combat style" either.

I put maybe thirty hours into that damn game and I can't for the life of me remember one significant thing. It was a beautiful game to look at, for sure, and the immortal idea was a good one if overplayed and underwhelming. Those kids just grated on my nerves. The best part of Lost Odyssey was the White Rabbit trailer. The art style reminds me of a gritty Kingdom Hearts which is terrible in that everything (and weapons especially) looks hollow and bulky like ceramic toys. I've never played a game that looks so good and so awful all at once. One-dimensional characters. Cliched villains. Boring world. I'd almost say the old LOTR JRPG is better except I can't even remember what it's called. I wanted to like Lost Odyssey, really I did. Bleh. The gameplay was a lot better than most FF games, and the story was good until around half way in, when it took a trip down the toilet. (Developers somehow decided that a JRPG has to be cliched?) Regardless, I liked the setting a lot, and the dreams and the main characters. The kids didn't bug me that much, because at least the only annoying characters are children, the other characters weren't over the top "WHY ME!?" emo schmucks bemoaning their place in life like most FF games. The dreams were great.

Of the ones I have actually played I hate 12 the most. Hated Vaan, disliked the combat system. The only redeeming thing about it was the Gilgamesh questline. Limit breaks have been crappy as well. Final Fantasy 10 was the last one that I actually enjoyed the limit breaks. I like Crisis Core but hated the limit break system.

The dreams were great. I loved Lost Odyssey as soon as I got to the first boss and he raped me and forced me to step back and plan a strategy. Most of the fights in the game can't simply be brute-forced by the same shit. Everyone has to fulfill their role and you need to plan a few turns in a head due to cast times and the like. It's far more interesting combat-wise than any other RPG in recent memory. Cooke and Mack can suck it, but yeah, everyone else is awesome, especially Jansen. And the Thousand Years of Dreams sequences are masterpieces. I especially loved the one about the old shoemaker. If you didn't enjoy that one you lack a soul. The overall story was meh, but I fucking loved that game. I hope they make a sequel.
