By the way, surprised no one has mentioned the old ass gameboy Final Fantasy games. They were decent, I guess, but didn't hold a candle to zelda. Someone did mention it, you just didn't read it
The game is called Final Fantasy Adventure, or Mystic Quest in EU, and Seiken Densetsu in JP then a spinoff was created named the Mana/Seiken Densetsu series, really great co-op action rpg games.

Best thing bout the FF series was the music. Well, I guess I suppose it helps that I'm a musician but yeah. When played on instruments its much better.

Same reason XI and XIV aren't in the poll, they aren't "pureblooded" FF games.

Congrats dude, im recently replaying it too and finding it harder than I remember. Btw since when did tents not fully restore all HP/MP?!
Most of the harder bosses ive found though have had annoying counter attacks, but still ive only died once.

ff6 easily the greatest of all. The game still goes for $35 without box or manual lol. I really wish they would remake it on pc. Keep the epic soundtrack (one of the top rated gaming soundtracks of all time). I've lost interest in the FF series, but a remake of 6 I would have to buy. The game literally took 80 + hours to beat and you could coop battles, which made it even better.
I jailbroke my iPhone just to get an emulator and play it again xD.

Me missing the main FF era (I'm only 13) My first FF full playthrough was (coincidentally) FF13.
Immediately the game sucked me in, with amazing visuals, a deep story (to me, atleast), also with a capsulating battle sequence. I dunno. I think I'm just a sucker for good graphics.
Now, I'm going through 7, 8, and the rest through emulators. It'll take a while, but it's gonna be fun

I'm currently playing FF1 on NES. Does it get easier? There's A LOT of grinding :/

Mentioned this earlier in the thread, but one week from today in Chicago I'm attending two concerts of Final Fantasy music with Nobuo Uematsu in attendance, plus I get to meet him in person. I'll put up pictures and whatnot if anybody is interested.
Also, I don't know if finalfantasyradio.net is exactly the radio you were talking about, but I listen to it now and then and it's pretty decent.

If you have fighters, it gets quite easier as you acquire more armor/weapons. Mages will still be squishy until you get the gold chain (lategame). To grind faster, you can try the power penninsula (check google).
Theives are worthless.

Play through FF1 like a real man - 4x White Mage.
I think anymore I always go Fighter/BB/WM/BM.

For some reason this reminded me of the Pidgey-only run of Pokemon yellow. >.>
Back on topic though: FFI (even on the gameboy) was a total grindfest. However, that being said, it's totally worth the hours leveling to completely roll over lategame bosses
Then again, I think the original version on the NES only lets you go to 30, so, uh, lol.

Best way to grind is to farm the Eye w/ ProRings

Unfortunately I have a thief I'll try to find the power penninsula! Thanks for helping me :D

Fuck yeah FF. I have finished FF9 and FF6. Currently playing FF7 for like the 4th time, never finished it. FF6 is by far my favourite in the series and one of my favourite games of all time. I actually like FF9 more than FF7, Vivi is a such baller.
I liked the story in FF8, but hated the gameplay. Watching those summon animations over and over again and grinding draw got old after a while.
I'm really enjoying FF7 atm. Playing it on PC with enhanced graphics and stuff, really nice. I definitely think it's an overrated game though. I have a hard time understanding why this is considered the best in the series. I fucking hate Caith Sith.
I guess I'll try FF10 after I'm done with 7. Or maybe play 8 again. Not sure. Thinking about trying 1-5 as well, which one do you guys recommend?

Ten for sure if you havent played it yet.

I remember going through FF1 for the first time with the 8-Bit Theater group (Fighter/BM/RM/Thief), and I had a hell of a time getting through the game. I didn't think that it was too grinding intensive, though. At least not compared to FF2, that game had easy but stupid grinding.
Overall, I've played through all the (main series) FF games except 8, 12, and 13. My first and favorite would be 6. The overall story and character development is absolutely amazing. The concept that there is no real central hero character (one could argue Terra) really sold me. Just thinking about it makes me want to play it again.

Out of FF 1-5, I would say to try out 1, 4 or 5. 1 pretty much just because it's the first in the series. It was a big enough hit to spawn off so many other titles. 4 has a great story and it takes you to places you wouldn't expect. 5 has a good class system. You can customize your characters to do whatever you want (no jobs are set in stone). Also, the male lead's name is Butz (I don't care what they changed it to in future releases).

I'm going to have to try that. That made me laugh and made me think how cool that would be, Thanks dude you gave me something to do.
Edit; I'm also playing through FF7 right now, Then i plan on to play FF6 than FF10 but i might have to do the Pidgey thing first.
