It's almost January, how is the season too young? Do we have to wait until game 50 to be able to say anything? The difference between this year and the last 3 years are that San Antonio is healthy and Dallas is playing defense. At this point last year I doubt anyone in the West was seen as a true contender. This is the first time in the Gasol era it has happened.
It's too young to say how the west will turn out because LA hasn't even played Dallas or SA yet. That's pretty simple. Those three teams road to the finals are through each other, so the outcome of the Miami game doesn't mean anything until June, should they get that far.
Besides the fact you ignored what I said about their center finally being back from injury and still working up his stamina. Until that actually happens the rotations are going to be very sketch and Gasol is going to continue being tired which has caused his play to suffer terribly over the past month.
I won't go very deep into your argument about the Lakers regular seasons recently because I don't think I need to clarify it that much as proving this point is moot to anyone who doesn't watch the Lakers play on a regular basis (so it seams). With the amount of money the FO puts into the roster they shouldn't be winning 56-57 games, they should be well into the 60's. They play HOT for stretches then look absolutely abysmal for 25 games or so every year for the past 4 years save 08. This is what they do.

That roster is still shaky. Jason Richardson is NOT close to being an All-Star level shooting guard. He's very good, but not that good. We're talking Kobe/Wade/old Brandon Roy levels of dominance here.
For Jason Richardson, you are actually agreeing with me. My point was not that he should be like Wade or Kobe, but that he is one of the SGs at a very good level as a teammate (like Ray Allen but with different abilities). Though speaking of Roy isn't he ruined b/c of his knees now?
I did not think they were a contender after one good game but because of their roster. Most likely they will look even better in the future. Their last two wins (over good teams) were not their best. It is called a prediction based on analysis not an overreaction to one game.

Man I really thought the Knicks had a shot since they were actually playing off a few days rest. If they didn't start off cold it might have been a different story.
Still think they're gonna finish at least 6th seed though, so they won't have to worry about Boston or Miami in the first round. Really hope they can get a center and a backup PG before the trade deadline.

I think they can, easily. Duncan isn't a major factor and RJ, Manu and TP are playing very well.
The players they spent all last year developing and the pieces they got this year aren't required to do too much yet but do what is asked of them very well. The defense isn't lock down like past years but it's still above average especially when they need to be.

Not sure which Lakers fans you're referring to, but I'm one who has felt like they've been playing like shit for a while now. They have some serious chemistry issues right now, and Kobe's reverting to his don't-trust-my-teammates mentality. The talent is there, but they're just not executing well on either side of the ball.
