Some of that was just due to him whiffing on open layups repeatedly though. He could have had a lot more points.

This is one of those innocuously disturbing quotes. It goes against the very essence of Michael Jordan.
Maybe you think this guy is Michael Jordan + Show Spoiler +http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcTHP2K1ZWY
instead of + Show Spoiler + or + Show Spoiler +starting at 5 minutes he talks almost nonstop about people who he felt he trying to compete against
The true essence of Jordan isn't highlights, it's a awe inspiring, borderline sociopathic desire to put everything he had into destroying people. Jordan isn't a baller, he's pure competitive desire.

I wonder at what stage Vince Carter said "fuck it" and decided to become Derrick Coleman v2.

lol@ the idea Jordan was the best, so he didn't try. Jordan is pretty well known to be pretty merciless to his teammates. He had that KG quality of consistent intensity. He wanted to win every game and got into fights with teammates when he thought they weren't practicing hard enough, the guy was intense. Horace Grant hated Jordan, Steve Kerr and Jordan got into a brawl. There's lots of documentation of Jordan basically fighting or knocking out a teammate or tryout player, because they ticked him off in some way. The guy never coasted on his talent and that's why so many people loved his game. He basically had the most talent anyone had ever seen, but he didn't take it for granted the way someone like Shaq did.
Also, Pierce and Iverson are both locks for the HOF. If not, then the HOF needs to start booting out alot of people. Dumars and Pierce aren't the same caliber of player, just look at Isiah's last year, and the year after Isiah, but before Grant Hill. Dumars got exposed during that time, Pistons won like 25 games both years.
Also fuck VInce Carter, he's a disgrace not only to basketball but humankind. HOF shouldn't acknowledge that he even existed.

Shaq took his talents for granted?! I mean, ok, maybe he wasn't Jordan intense but it's a bit harsh to say a 3 time Finals MVP took his talent for granted. Shaq worked hard to get where he did and it showed. His body broke down more than anything.

Shaq worked hard to get where he did and it showed. His body broke down more than anything. His body broke down in part, because he showed up every season out of shape. This is well known. Everyone from Kobe to Phil Jackson to the LA media, to Shaq himself has said this. Shaq never took the regular season all that serious, and made many statements such as injurying himself on company time, so he could rehab on company time, rather than in the offseason. I'm not saying he was the laziest player, but no one's going to accuse Shaq of working too hard either.
This was a part of the beef between him and Kobe. Shaq was top dog on those teams, but because Kobe is a hard worker and being second to Shaq who didn't work hard irritated him alot. Of course there was alot more than that between the two, but there were always stories about how Kobe worked his ass off, while Shaq worked himself into shape during the season.
Also, Shaq's talent was tremendous, higher than many other great players. I'm by no means hating on Shaq, imo he was the best player post-Jordan, but that doesn't mean I believe he topped off. Seeing him at the beginning of each season was pretty annoying as a fan, because you could see all the extra fat he accumulated each offseason. Pretty tough to convince me that he's a hard worker, when he shows up fat.

Pierce missed the playoffs with ~30ish win teams plenty of times

How can Pierce be a lock when it took DJ/Dantley/Gilmore 15+ years each to get in, and guys like King, Sikma, and Mo Cheeks will probably never make it?

Way to go Danny Ainge. Rather destroyed the whole Ubuntu thing.

not saying Rondo's year has been terrible at all (it actually has been All-Star level). but, to say Rondo's better than Rose as of now is going to get smaller and smaller; yesterday was a preview of that.
also, is Miami still considering adding Eddy Curry?

Even considering adding Eddy Curry to your roster should be considered an open admission that there's something very wrong with your team.

I think everyones taking my statement on MJ not trying a bit too seriously, I was just curious as to who would of gave him a harder time during practice since both Pip and rodman were such tough defenders =/

Dumars wasn't as talented as those two, but he was much, much better defender. He also played in the much tougher Central division where going 40-42 got you 6th place. That same year, the 76ers were first place in Atlantic with 26-56. On top of that is the GM stuff.

I'm surprised I wasn't flamed for saying iverson deserves to be in the HOF, I take it most of you guys agree?

Yah, absolutely. Iverson had his flaws but I don't see how anyone can say he wasn't a HoFer. He practically defined the 3-5 transitional years of the NBA post-Jordan.
@Jibba: Iverson was a defensive beast for a 4 years period 2001-2005. He fell off pretty hard after that but that 4 year stretch belongs in discussions with Payton.

Lakers another loss... Any reason to be concerned or just a standard mini-slump?
