never played lineage, but heard the grind in that is worse than aion. doesn't sound too encouraging. the only good thing i heard about the game is that they actually did fort sieges in a way that didn't devolve into a lagging zerg fest.

given the horrible customer service job NCSoft did with aion, forgive me if i'm skeptical.

Newsflash, NCSoft has always had terrible service dating all the way back to Lineage 1, which is way back in the mid-90s. Then again, find me a developer that actually has phenomena customer service. In reality there are close to none.

I hear good things about what Blizzard did with WoW, but that's only hearsay. If you buy into a MMO you better be ready to be treated like trash. They cannot cater to everyone. On a side note, Lineage 1 had one of the worst grinds of all time. That game is a major pain in the ass.

The races in this game look pretty cool, it's just missing a mithra knock off and I would be good to go!
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

Well IMO the WoW MMO type isn't as good as it used to. A MMO is al about putting in time and getting better and better for it. In the start of WoW it was like that. But now there's no reason to ge beyond a casual player. A MMO should be a grindfest. Preferable a indefinite grind that goes on forever. If I put in 10x the time as some people I want to be 10 x as good. Thats how I would like my MMO. I would maybe not end up being the best but it would be my own choice.

i don't understand all the backlash against casual players. not everyone can afford to treat an MMO as a part time job, which is what it becomes. i've got a full time job and other hobbies. hardcore MMOs should be a niche market at best, and there are already plenty of MMOs that provide a long arduous grind.

rewarding players for putting in more time is basically rewarding someone for being unemployed and living with their parents. and no, I'm not a wow player. aion is the only MMO I've played, and I hit level 50 without botting, and before the latest patches came out (which made leveling significantly easier).

so go play wow then. You seem to want to feel accomplished for doing nothing. WoW seems like a perfect fit for you.

No, if you read my post, I have a job and other hobbies. I want to be able to enjoy the game without having to grind 10+ hours a day, 7 days a week. Its not like PvE grinding in such a manner involves any skill either. At least grinding in starcraft, its competitive and you can jump straight into pvp without worrying about being geared, its completely skill based. Hardcore MMOs should be a niche, because the majority of people can't devote their life to a video game. Casual should be the norm, not the exception for MMOs.

Besides, I would have figured my posting that I hit the (then) level 50 cap in Aion without botting (and am currently at the new level cap of 55) would have pre empted such pretentious comments from hardcore MMO players such as yourself.

I guess you also feel "accomplished" making fun of people that do?

i have a friend who game-hops all the time----finds and mmo and decides it's beautiful and fun-looking, and plays until some point where he's 1/4th to 1/3rd level cap

though these are the friends i play games with
it's hard to satisfy everybody in a game, and mmo's cover a wide variety of people IMO

i'd just be happy if there is unique content for everyone to enjoy, some good game balancing to make pvp very appealing, and some pull to the game despite some imperfect moments to literally grind through

I really don't get why there aren't more MMORPGs kind of like WoW that aren't based around Grinding and are more about using a couple weeks to get to the level cap and then it'd be all about getting the perfect equipments and such and doing Raids and mass PvPs... I totally would love these kinds of stuffs but I just don't have the time to grind 15 hours a day for half a year until I get to that point...

This game seems pretty interesting and I might try this though.

So I managed to get up to lvl 19, for the second time lol. I'm killing this sort of world boss with my group so I figured since thats more interesting than me just grinding I'll put my stream up when the servers come back up.

oh and btw there's an english patch for the game now.

http://twitter.com/#!/mkisods

I don't think it works with the latest patch that came out today, mine reverted and then wouldn't work, so wait for an update.

i really really dont get how there are people that think that wow has no grinding

and please dont judge such an amazing game like TERA without even knowing it, or worse, comparing it to the waste that wow is, if you didnt know, there is not much difficulty in reaching the level cap, in fact in the official forums some hardcore gamers are complaining that its too easy to level up, so please dont make assumptions and state stuff that its not true as it can make people who are not well informed believe its true

the fact is that we do not know how the leveling is, because the beta that some are playing is the korean version, so its a different version of the game, that isnt even finished yet, we still need western betas to actually see what the game is really like, and even there as it would be a beta, its still not the finished version of the game

Time spent != difficulty

go to your local gas station. You will find someone that's been working that 8-hour job for years upon years, putting in more time than you ever will in your video game, and they STILL haven't "leveled up"

...Doesn't mean they have the most difficult job in the world, though, either.

Level cap was reached in 3 days. This is def on a casual level. Casual gamers will reach endgame in a month of 1 hour a day, and a few on weekends.

People get so emotional about a game that they haven't played yet, and some other game that doesn't appear in the title of the thread. I don't understand why people need to insist that something is better than wow to argue that it is a worthwhile game.

With that in mind, I would like to make clear that there is basically the same amount of "grinding" as you would find in wow. This isn't Lineage or Kingdom of the Winds (hows that for old korean MMO reference )

In early stages of wow vanilla, leveling to 60 was a good month of grinding time (3-4h a day). From lvl40 and on you needed a day+ per level. People forget how wow was in vanilla without any xp gaining tweaks blizzard added later on. Now everyone has 8 chars on realm they play. And every time people make alts they rush them throu the game to max level with massive support from earlier characters (think about unlimited gold at lower levels, gear/weapons/bags).

Make a char on a new realm where you don't have any support and you will be leveling at least a month or 2 till you hit the max level (whatever it may be by now). Its the same situation with new MMO's as it was with vanilla wow (which was the best btw).

The thing I like about Tera is that you actually need to aim at a target to hit it, the combat aspect of the game is gonna require so much more skill than wow.

0 Support, and i hit max lvl in 6 days, completely geared for ICC in 9. Its not hard at all, you get ALL the gold you need from quests.

6 days /played?
Thats 144h total divide by 30days = 4.8h per day. And you want to say thats not hardcore grinding?

Besides...
- Questhelper
- Mount @lvl20
- More xp gained from lvl20-60 (something like that)
- More xp gained with the "yellow items" (shoulders which are bind on account or something)
- Current wow economy enables you to get a very good amount of gold and fast. Mining copper and selling overpriced at AH, there are always alts ready to buy the overpriced lowlevel goods to speedlevel professions.
- No true PvP from lvl40-60 (unlike in vanilla)
- Outland should be empty lvl60-70
- Northrend (lvl70-80) should also be empty now that Cata is released (I myself haven't played past Algalon)

Those things make it so much easier its not even comparable to vanilla. Where you had a true experience of a mmo.

And now with the recycled content I don't get why people are still hooked on to the game. Besides the regular chat with guild mates the game has nothing new to offer what you haven't seen already.

sorry for going off topic, this far.

So there seems to be some argument about the ease of leveling inside Tera, as someone who has actually played the game I would like to offer my opinion.

Leveling is not very hard, the rewards from doing the campaign quests are almost enough to take you through each level, you only need to do a few normal quests each level.

Many of you seem to think that the process of leveling should be difficult or require more time, however I believe the combat system in Tera revolves around end game PvE and PvP.

Just because you managed to get yourself to the cap in Tera does not mean your good at the game, the aiming system for all the skills raises the skill ceiling of this MMORPG miles above any other out there.

I truly believe that the FPS-like targeting system of Tera is the future of all MMORPG's as it provides a new aspect to the game that greatly increases it's depth of skill.
