best MMORPGs I ever played were Runescape before "members" came out. There was no wilderness... you had PvP EVERYWHERE and you could only switch from PvP to Non PVP like a total of 3 times or something before you get stuck. I was stuck PvP and I hated it at first, but then I learned to love it. Clan wars over grinding spots was awesome. I was in the Gladiatorz clan. LOLZ Gladiatorz 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY IS THIS FEBRUARY LOLZ (february 2001) and they are still playing that game. Check out our history http://www.the-gladiatorz.com/history.htm We use to fight the Razor clan on that island where the lesser demons were that drop rune medium helmets. good times good times. Razors use to wear red capes during clan wars and we would wear like green capes to distinguish who was on which side.

I also played Asheron's Call on Darktide Server another classic MMORPG for the same reasons PvP. Moon/power stafing, delayed casting, fast casting, jump spin, and etc lolz Same thing clans/allegiances fought over towns/dungeons. Towards the end of my time playing Asheron's Call though my clan owned pretty much the whole server lolz. Sanguinans!!!! Doomgaze KoC where you at?

yes, you can play the Korean open beta, you'll need a Korean to make you an account or you can buy one for 10 bucks off 3zoom.

TrainFX I'd like to ask some questions if you don't mind. I'm not sure if its answered yet.

Jumping: Can you jump freely or is it only associated with attacks? (never seen someone do it so I'm a bit worried)
Straving/back-paddling: Is it possible? (chars always seem to walk.. like forward, which also worries me)

you can jump freely, but you can't attack or use skills while your jumping.

yes you can strafe, it work's a little differently than in most games but its actually a lot better, you don't back peddle you just turn around and run but the camera stays focused in front of you and even if your char is looking backwards while your charging a skill or w/e it'll still shoot wherever your cross hairs are focused.

In early stages of wow vanilla, leveling to 60 was a good month of grinding time (3-4h a day). From lvl40 and on you needed a day+ per level. People forget how wow was in vanilla without any xp gaining tweaks blizzard added later on. Now everyone has 8 chars on realm they play. And every time people make alts they rush them throu the game to max level with massive support from earlier characters (think about unlimited gold at lower levels, gear/weapons/bags).

Make a char on a new realm where you don't have any support and you will be leveling at least a month or 2 till you hit the max level (whatever it may be by now). Its the same situation with new MMO's as it was with vanilla wow (which was the best btw).

The thing I like about Tera is that you actually need to aim at a target to hit it, the combat aspect of the game is gonna require so much more skill than wow.

0 Support, and i hit max lvl in 6 days, completely geared for ICC in 9. Its not hard at all, you get ALL the gold you need from quests.

6 days /played?
Thats 144h total divide by 30days = 4.8h per day. And you want to say thats not hardcore grinding?

Besides...
- Questhelper
- Mount @lvl20
- More xp gained from lvl20-60 (something like that)
- More xp gained with the "yellow items" (shoulders which are bind on account or something)
- Current wow economy enables you to get a very good amount of gold and fast. Mining copper and selling overpriced at AH, there are always alts ready to buy the overpriced lowlevel goods to speedlevel professions.
- No true PvP from lvl40-60 (unlike in vanilla)
- Outland should be empty lvl60-70
- Northrend (lvl70-80) should also be empty now that Cata is released (I myself haven't played past Algalon)

Those things make it so much easier its not even comparable to vanilla. Where you had a true experience of a mmo.

And now with the recycled content I don't get why people are still hooked on to the game. Besides the regular chat with guild mates the game has nothing new to offer what you haven't seen already.

sorry for going off topic, this far.

of course not 6 days played, 6 days irl, 2 days played.

Starting the 25th, it will be a subscription based service costing 19800 won a month, which of course is roughly 15 dollars. Aion is the same cost and I think WoW is also. Although I enjoyed this game, I will have to wait and see what new content is out before I actually decide to pay for it. Good thing about korean MMO is that you dont have to pay 40 dollars just to buy the damn game before subscription fees.

I'd say there are mainly two ways of progressing through MMOs.

1- There are very difficult encounters that require skill and experience and punishes you if you fail. If you fail, it is time consuming if you try and try again, but if you succeed it feels like a sense of accomplishment. You know that you are guaranteed rewards if you succeed.

2- There are easy but tedious work which is time consuming. It may take hours, days, or weeks just hitting your goal doing the same thing, but once you hit your goal, you feel glad your work was accomplished. Doing the same thing over and over does not guarantee rewards, but has a small chance to, and when you get it, you feel relief of your time consuming work.

Most MMOs I have played either have one of these play styles to progress in their game. Only a rarity of MMORPGs have both.

I think the reason why World of Warcraft was so successful is because it had both of these strongly implemented within the system. Granted, the last few expansions have catered to casuals more, but casuals do make up the bulk of the MMO market.

I would hope Tera would have both or multiple ways of progressions for it to compete with WoW, but this is only one of the many contents in a MMO needed for it to be successful.

You know nothing of actual grinding, all Korean MMOs are at least 1 year to reach max level at 18 hours per day.

Lineage 1,2 and Silkroad are top notch examples of slave labor type grinding.

Fun stuff? I just picked up wow again after 5 years, And just raped all pre raid content in under a month.
Man, MMO-players are worse than console players nowadays, a bit of difficulty and it's abandon ship!

But thats not really why im here, just got a bit sick, of the OMG it wont take me 20 hours to get to lvl max, and another twenty to be ready for end game (ok a bit of exageration).

So my question is: any English spoken people playing the KR- beta? finding it hard communicating, 'cause i dont speak a word of korean unfortunately.

EDIT: should really read whole posts ^^ ill check out terafans ^^

OT:
:< You shouldn't play WoW like that but if you want to play like that then you it's definitely not a game for you

And about fun stuff I meant PvP, guild events, Raids WITH GUILD and hanging out with friends aka outdoor pvp gank/"war" or other such things. ^^

These things are way different every time I do them in my opinion and have been alteast for me for ~5-6yrs.

to topic:

What kind of PvP is planned in Tera online? Been decided yet? Mostly thinking if its something like big RvR battles, just duels, mass zergfest, siege fights etc.

E: Fucked up codes. Tried to fix as much as possible :d
