How is the death system handled, exactly?

You click revive and you appear fully alive at a nearby town. Some weapons and armor have sockets, into which you can put different crystals in that do different things. If you die, there is a chance these crystals will break. Your condition also drops down. When your condition is below a certain number, your damage decreases, and you get bonus or penalty your health and mana depending on your condition. So basically, not a whole lot. Theres no durability so the only thing you have to replace are the crystals, which could actually be problematic if you need high quality crystals, as the vendors only sell normal quality. Also, if you are doing an instance and your tank, healer and a dps die, one person can gain aggro and run around while the other person uses revive scrolls on 20 min CD to revive the healer, and the healer can rez everyone else, heal, and start fighting again. Your condition will be shitty so it will be harder but there are also potions fully restore condition, albeit they are not readily obtainable.

Korea is in open beta test right now so if you can get the required information to make an account you can play, you'll lag with like, 400-500 ping based on what people have been saying on the forums but you'll get a chance to get a feeling for the game.

Note that the north american version will have less grind, enmasse made that point repeatedly over the past couple months, in which i'm not sure if its a good or bad thing to be honest. hopefully it's not like being spoonfed EXP.

Does this game has grind that is necessary? Like in wow you are able to grind but you gain pretty much only achievements for it, no point to grind anything.

Same case in Tera online or do you have to grind for your levels, items and money?

@Ryndika

I'm level 34 out of the cap of 38 in the open beta. I've leveled strictly off content/dungeons with my guild. I've abandoned at least 70+ quests just from out lvling them. So no at least not at this level there is no grind. You get great gear just from the Campaign quests/instances/open world dungeons.

There is more then enough content to level.

From Super Daniel Man's twitter: "'Tera' is officially the no.1 game atm, knocking off the reigning king 'Aion' that was at the top fo 103consecutive weeks."

I also remember how much hype there was over aion. in the end, it was a korean game made by ncsoft and it was an absolutely horrible game. tera is made by many ex ncsoft devs. i think its pretty clear that its also going to be an awful game.

history repeats itself.

By that logic everything NCsoft has ever made is terrible, but Lineage 2 is/was a great game.

never played lineage, but heard the grind in that is worse than aion. doesn't sound too encouraging. the only good thing i heard about the game is that they actually did fort sieges in a way that didn't devolve into a lagging zerg fest.

given the horrible customer service job ncsoft did with aion, forgive me if i'm skeptical.

Thus far the enmasse personnel have been much more prompt at responding on their forums than NCsoft staff have been in the past. Having played both lineage and aion, i can easily say that the grind in lineage was much larger than aion, but its not really as noticeable such that in your objective to complete something, you'll level up in the process and having it too easy is like an invincibility cheat in COD campaign or something.

Regardless of grind though, enmasse has mentioned they are trying to reduce the equipment discrepencies as much as possible without not rewarding those who work hard anyways. Ultimately, they're just sticking to their starting motto that, just because you're higher leveled, doesn't mean you can win in a pvp against a lower leveled, less equiped guy since it all comes down to how well you can target <3

Well IMO the WoW MMO type isn't as good as it used to. A MMO is al about putting in time and getting better and better for it. In the start of WoW it was like that. But now there's no reason to ge beyond a casual player. A MMO should be a grindfest. Preferable a indefinite grind that goes on forever. If I put in 10x the time as some people I want to be 10 x as good. Thats how I would like my MMO. I would maybe not end up being the best but it would be my own choice.

i love how all the comments against the game are like

- its too sexy for me
- if it takes more than 3 hits to kill a mob then its too long
- if i spend more time killing stuff that walking to complete a quest then its a grindfest (common wow player stuff)

personally i cant wait for the non-korean beta to finally be able to play the game, this could very well be the first game i actually pay a subscription to play

Well those comments are from little kids, people who don't understand that an MMO is a daily RPG you can play with friends. Anywho the game looks great cant wait to play.

i don't understand all the backlash against casual players. not everyone can afford to treat an MMO as a part time job, which is what it becomes. i've got a full time job and other hobbies. hardcore MMOs should be a niche market at best, and there are already plenty of MMOs that provide a long arduous grind.

rewarding players for putting in more time is basically rewarding someone for being unemployed and living with their parents. and no, I'm not a wow player. aion is the only MMO I've played, and I hit level 50 without botting, and before the latest patches came out (which made leveling significantly easier).

so go play wow then. You seem to want to feel accomplished for doing nothing. WoW seems like a perfect fit for you.

Sure, if you consider playing the game like a second job to be what makes a game great. I had enough of that when I was getting paid to play CS, personally. No way in hell I would pay someone else to clock in 8 hours a day to stay current.

I know i personally feel "accomplished" when i sit at my computer for 6 hours killing the same digital monster 1000 times to get more stats and a new ring to kill another monster 1000 times over 6 hours to get more stats to get a new ring.
