This. I remember a time when you could install spawn copies. That was back when you could trust people to not pirate your shit.

The best that can be hoped for is simulated lan which there have been whispers about but true lan and blizz games is dead.

There is a better chance that they will implement LAN for Starcraft 2 than implement it for Diablo 3. A much bigger scene to please. Blizzard seems to be moving away from LAN obviously to reduce pirating and promote community growth.

How does not having LAN promote community growth?

It does but without a direct hookup to bnet they would always fear pirating as people did with d2 and just played lan.

it actually doesnt.. it restricts community only to people who A) are willing to buy it and B) have the cash to buy it .. why buy it when almost every other game is free ? it has to be veeery good for people used to pirate it to spend money on it.

Or the connection speeds were so slow mass pirating just wasn't possible If people had the connections we had back in the days of warcraft 2 etc pirating would be just as rampant

How do you guys think the beta will work ? only PvP features ? arena ? or will we have like the 1st act with the campaign missions to play and can only lvl up there and then play arena or pvp or w/e

That sounds more like a demo of the game as opposed to beta. I would imagine they want to test the game from start to finish so I would guess you could do nearly everything. The more they allow to be tested the better it is for Blizz.

but why would they release the hole game :S that would be stupid..
they didnt release campaign on sc2 ! (VERY DIFFERENTE GAMES, SC2 IS 99% ABOUT PLYING OTHER DUDES,NOT THE CAMPAIGN)

You're right, SC2 and Diablo are very different games. In Starcraft you have a seperate campaign from multiplayer. You can't play Diablo without playing the through the story. Diablo isn't about playing other dudes, Blizzard themselves have stated that their focus is certainly NOT PvP so it wouldn't make any sense to only release arena play. Why would they want to test something they aren't even concerned about.
edit - To be clear, I don't think the beta = the full game but it will be more than just a few quests or a low level cap.
|
Blizz already mentioned that in the beta you are restricted to a part of Act1 (the territories you already saw in the vids) and arenas. They want you to have the big omgwtflol feeling after the game released and keeping the best stuff for that. Because the game's focus is on PVE, it's mostly will be for stress test and bug-hunt.

I will feel bad for so many girlfriends when this game releases.

I want to say the Diablocast Ep9 but it could be some other video from Force. It's where I get all my diablo news from.

I don't get it.... Why can't blizzard implement LAN in the way that people still need the internet to log on but when you log into your D3 account there is an option to play on LAN in stead of playing through their shitty servers that only account for USA users.
This way people still need to buy a copy, but instead, once they have their legit copy if they verify their login by logging into the blizzard servers via the internet, then they can have LAN support for the game.
|
I actually never player diablo on LAN, it was either on bnet or SP. I never had the time to level up all the way to hell on D2 while on LAN. If they just want to pirate it i'm sure people would find a way to to enable SP, just like they did for SC2
|
I willing to bet that there will be no LAN and be internet required only for many reasons.
1. Easier to monitor hacking/botting. 2. Blizzard forces you to login to battle.net, therefore they are making money from advertising etc each time. 3. Blizzard thinks LAN is a joke.
