You tell your character to move forward, he moves forward. There is no one second delay between your keyboard and the game (latency allowing). Its what makes a game fun. Being able to jump, do a 180 midair, and blink in the opposite direction everyone assumes you to go is a really cool and effective thing to do. But yeah, I guess you could get used to a game that responds to your commands slower than Atlantica, which is turn based. FFIV is like getting used to taste of piss in your water - "once he got used to it, he finally agreed that nothing was wrong" YMMV but unless you are absolutely brainwashed into loving something because it says "final fantasy" on it, your probably going to be disappointed. Coupled with spending more time downloading it than actually playing... just saving some people the grief. And ya, if the lvl 1 experience is unbearable for the better part of 3 hours (Competing with everyone for spawns, spawns of ridiculously high level monsters the first thing you see leaving the first city, spending more time dead, or with rez sickness then actually fighting, fighting consisting of pressing 1 button every 3-5 seconds) then why would you keep playing? I play games to have fun, I don't feel the need to buy a game then earn the fun parts. relax no need to be a complete prick yeah the game definitely isnt for everyone, the first thing i did (and probably most) was to find and do the opening quest objective while talking to everybody i came across i also went to the guilds around to see what everything was about leveling was not my #1 priority when i created my character and yeah actually there is nothing wrong with being a WoW player I played wow, as did many of my friends, but the ability to level really fast and to do jumps/flips/180s isnt high on my list for what makes a great game as i was originally trying to imply FFXI/FFXIV =/= WoW

going into a thread in a forum on the topic of playing a game and trashing it is pretty obvious trolling no matter how well thought out your points are. Just ignore posts like that and people(IE trolls) will be less inclined to put their 2 cents into EVERYTHING.

Alright everyone, here's my shot at a guide on getting this shit running. This is a guide on how to MANUALLY patch the game, instead of having to use Squeenix's retarded uploader. 1.http://awk.cenobyte.org/ffxiv/ Download the SquareEnix.rar and ffxiv-beta/, this will get you all the files the SE installer would normally get you. 2. Unpack SquareEnix.rar. 3. Run FFXIVBOOT.exe, it will download the patch torrents and place them..... 4. Here. My Documents > My games > FFXIV Beta Version > downloads > ffxiv-beta > d9* > metainfo > torrents will be here. Download the torrents using utorrent, whatever 5. Move the .patch documents into this folder: C:\Users\YourNameHere\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\bca2a8ae\patch 6. Open the ffxiv-beta/ file that you downloaded earlier from cenobyte.org. There should be a .patch file in there that is about 3.5 gigs, this is the one that so many people get stuck downloading for hours. Move it into the patch folder along with the others (C:\Users\YourNameHere\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\bca2a8ae\patch) 7. Run FFXIVBOOT.exe again, and it should recognize that the patches are already there, thus starting up the game

3. Log in to the FINAL FANTASY XIV tester site. All information regarding FINAL FANTASY XIV such as news, notifications, and the game manual--as well as important downloads such as the client--can be found on the tester site. FINAL FANTASY XIV Tester Site: https://dev-na.ffxiv.com/ *You will not be able to post in the forums. This url puts me into a loop saying: The FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Site can only be accessed by those who have been granted Beta Test accounts. Beta testers can log in from the link below using their Square Enix Account. When i do this and log in it redirects me to the same site described above,,, how do i proceed? I have registered the service in my account...

When you've registered the game, then you can just log in. They just added a new patch that I can't even download, so I'm not sure if the servers are even up right now.

EDIT: worked when I switched from BitLord to uTorrent. Don't know why but I managed to DL both of the patches.
