its funny because on his blog david jaffe (lead designer/game director of GoW1) said that he was so sorry about hades being so bad because it was the only level they didnt have time to playtest lol
I watched the recap video of GoW1 but am playing through GoW2. After playing the demo and dantes inferno, its ignited my interest in hack and slash games. Im picking up GoW3 on saturday and cannot wait.

I'll get this out of the way first so some of you can stop reading - it's the first GoW i've played
Anyway the game is good looking and all that standard shit for PS3 games but it's not really fun. Spam attackatatkatkackatkakckatkakt *get hit or bother to move* atatacatakckackaktatkakt its just boring. I don't give a shit if i'm slowly going to disembowl a centuar using my awesome powers of quick time event buttons, hell why can't a normal triangle press rip off his horn? Why aren't i doing all that crazy shit and why am i just pressing a random button to do it for me? Thats not really a good arguement but i can't be bothered to make it any better. Unlike Bayonetta, this game just lacks style and just the WHAT THE FUCKNESS of an action game for me. Oh wow there's a boss dude thats 45ft high. Guess what? That's normal now, it's nothing special. Bayonetta has you constantly moving around like a crazybitchcrackheadlightspeed mentalist and you can call it button spamming if you want but i'd like any of you to try this shit
I just think its kinda bland, sorry for such a negetive post straight away, for those that love the GoW balls to the rocksmashhammer action then you will probably like it but just ask yourself as you're spamming square or triange, "am i having fun?"
I feel the same. After playing Bayonetta, I feel it has set the standard on how combat is done in this genre. When I play or watch friends play GoW, it feels archaic. If it wasn't for the graphics in GoW 3, I might not ever consider it.

Bayonetta is all fan service. Id rather play Final Fight.
bayonetta story is fucking UNBEARABLE and such a fucking waste of time. Seriously that is some serious developer time that could have been put to good use. at least the cutscenes in GoW are tolerable.
Also, regarding the gameplay.. Although Bayonettas is much more deep, the game mechanics are designed poorly in order make it accessible for any poor chump (by making the attack combos just a different combination of the same TWO BUTTONS instead of utilizing the entire controller...really fucking dumb imo. At least in GoW I feel I have a good handle on my guy and I am doing everything I want to be doing, and it has some pretty sick combos if you are a competent player ;<
I don't understand why Bayonetta gets all this hype on this forum. Bayonetta hasn't set a standard, it just makes itself look a bit better because it lets you get these dumb overly flashy combos. Last time I checked, being able to do a bunch of combos doesn't revolutionize a genre. I'm not saying God of War does (because it doesn't), but God of War is the epitome of the hack and slash genre imho.

it didnt revolutionize anything and i never heard anyone say that lol
it just has a really really really fun combat system, IMO the most fun one of any game.
Overall its not as good as GoW1/2 (havent been able to get 3, cant get it till friday ) though just because those games are a much more complete package with far better level design, storytelling, and pacing.
Got my copy in the mail today surprisingly since Amazon said estimated arrival would be March 22nd. Right now I am 3 1/2 hours into the game, and it's awesome so far. The visuals are stunning, and it looks like Sony Santa Monica really used most of the PS3's potential like Naughty Dog with Uncharted 2.

have to agree with this post. imho bayonetta's actual gameplay is much more fun than gow (played 1 + 2 and 3 is said to feel the same). it's just faster and more dynamic, you don't have the feeling that there are any pauses in the zillion of combos you are raining down on your enemies. gow feels a bit slower and more deliberate, a bit more brutal.
i think it's a very good example of on the one hand a crazy fast combo spectacle (aka typical japanese game) and on the other hand a more western influenced hack n slash (the differences aren't that big but that's what I would deduce from the style / developers of the game).
it's up to the individual gamer what he prefers (and yup, bayonettas story blows, but that's not what this game series is about for me, same thing for dmc, could almost live without these "story-snacks" in between).
I haven't read anything about God of War 3 or heard much. Decided to buy it since I needed to kill some time until I move to my new apartment and get internet again.
Only got past the first boss and I think it's pretty cool. Nothing different so far about the gameplay so if you hated the first or second I don't see it being much different for the third. Game is pretty epic though. Nice to have the PS3 engine allowing Kratos to do some cool stuff. I don't think I'll be disappointed but probably not worth 60$. I actually died a couple times...not a hard game at all, but it's nice knowing that they didn't completely hold my hand and made it really easy in the beginning.
Played this on Titan difficulty first time playing through it.
5:20-10:29 Seriously the fucking hardest part of the game, all of the bosses are easy compared to this.
Galneryus I thought I read in your comment you only died a couple of times in the entirety of the game and I was about to call bullshit, then i re-read your comment ^^
Just finished it now, and wow what an ending. It makes sense for Kratos to die since I believe it's a good end for his journey. Even if he gets his vengeance, there isn't much for him left in the world, or what's left since the world is in chaos. Throughout playing the GoW series, I never trusted Athena since she contradicted herself before. Not surprised that she wanted the power of hope for herself in order to rule, but instead Kratos unleashed it on the world, which is a fitting end. Also, at the end of the credits, there is a scene of trail of blood leading to the cliffs, so I guess Kratos might be alive.

I always felt like God of War could only end well if after killing Zeus Kratos would kill himself, and not surprisingly they made it happen. I just kinda sat there and nodded my head because I completely understood why he did it. Overall I thought the game was awesome, it fully met my expectations and then some. I knew I was going to be fighting gods the entire game, but actually playing the game it was much better than I ever pictured it to be. And the Hercules fight was a very nice bonus (lol at Kevin Sorbo voicing him, I noticed that right away and laughed so hard while I was owning him).
Sadly there were a couple things that disappointed me in GOW3.
First and the biggest gripe I have about the game is the reintroduction of Athena as your guiding character. Pandora fit the role just fine, in fact she fit it so well I thought the Athena thing was a joke for a while. But no, sadly Athena wasn't a trick or anything at all. But I found her entire presence in the game completely superfluous and very distasteful. Especially the end where she tries to gain power by take it back from Kratos. I implore anyone reading this, picture God of War 3 without her presences. Doesn't it seem like a much better game now?
Secondly, and I think everyone will agree with me on this one, the weapon variety was balls. You get 3 blades of whatever-they-called-them-this-game and the Cestus. Really once you get the Cestus there is little need for weapon switching. Here's a quick list of possible weapons to introduce that would have livened up the variety of weapons in the game: Sword of Olympus (cool its main part of the rage bar, but its also a good weapon), Poseidon's Trident (I know I know, you already have it and it lets you breathe under water, but it can also be used as a weapon, Chronos' Sickle (its already part of greek mythology, and you fight him in the game to get your final weapon anyway), any mythological sword other than Sword of Olympus in combination with the Aegis, a huge axe (axe finishers are awesome). I would mention scythe but I actually think that would be a pretty lame weapon for Kratos to use, and Hades was already shown using his claw weapon in the previous god of war so they had to add those ... they didn't have to make them attack like the blades though.
Are you kidding me? I thought the weapon selection in this game was great. The only weapon that I never used a whole lot was the lighting weapon. I actually WANTED to use the weapons they gave me in this game compared to the previous two. And the gauntlets were so unbelievably badass lol. I don't think many people will agree with you on that one pal

Now that a lot of people finished GoW 3, this is the new topic, which is what the website means. If you get a platinum trophy, that link will appear next to it. At the top right, it says that if a lot of people get platinum trophies for GoW 3, the red meter will fill up.
