I think you should have settled a city somewhere else. That one has no hammers around it.

dido declares war in 3 2 1 .....

asdffdgdfga I said I don't guarantee I win I TOLD YOU GUYS YOU EXPECT TOO MUCH OF ME shoulda built more archers but I was a greedy bastard and wanted colosseums. g. g. I think you do get the idea though, selling resources borrowing money thing

hahahahahahha I am laughing so hard.
That flip was so harsh though. I guess that's what happens when you play a non-faith civ and start without desert/tundra/gold/silver/incense/wine.

had I explored better I would have gotten more gold earlier to buy settlers faster and get more faith, but nyaha. I could have tried to build one more archer and complete a quest or 2 for religious city state too I suppose. You can definitely do this on Immortal pangae even without religious civ and it's completely fine, you just have to get your religion estabilished by 2-3 missionaries, like if I got to 3 missionaries my pressure in all cities would be enough to keep Christianity in the majority forever. It delays the enhancers a bit, religious texts would definitely help and it would hurt if AI took it but it should still be alright.
And you're right, I could and probably should have taken the +1 faith per shrine/temple, would give me estimate about +13 faith per turn, with which I could build missionaries and enhance my religion faster, ye, that would be better. It would delay the extre great person from liberty quite a bit, but w/e, def. would be worth it.
Like the strongest point of this strat is when you start pumping that 30 faith per turn and just keep buying more and more pagodas. You would just go O.O seeing all of my cities grow to pop 7 without happiness issues and then have my science skyrocket the fuck out of. If I hadn't been so greedy with colosseums Im pretty sure it would have worked. Like 2 more composite bowmen would have defended me probably.
Anyway, fuck this game. Want me to do a playthrough of civ4?

I just played a game as Egypt which I had probably the easiest cultural game ever. I was easily able to get all the key wonders (Oracle, Alhambra, Sisten Chapel, Cristo Redentor, and Sidney Opera House), plus a whole bunch of other ones. I was able able to get World Church as my founder belief (+culture from foreign cities) and spread it like hell. I won by turn 330ish.....
But that's not the point. What I realized is that by the time I managed to finish Sidney Opera House, Globalization was just around the corner. To my horror, I was only 2k gold short of a diplomatic victory before I could finish my last Social Policy (I was two votes short at the end). Should I just build a couple fewer units and staffed a few merchant specialists, I would have made those extra 2k gold and be able to win diplomatically instead, even though I never planned to win that way (I had no points in Commerce SP and I had only 6 river tiles in my border).
It's so sad that cultural victory is so hard that by the time I was about to be done (and like I mentioned, I was able to win culturally *really fast* in this game), I could have easily won in a different way instead. I hope 2k buffs culture games in the future.

I meant to spend some downtime at work today reading about strategy and game theory but instead I ended up reading every leader's bio on the civ wiki. It was very interesting but I still suck! TT

The bios are really interesting. The one about Washington was particularly enlightening to me.
EDIT: I managed to grow my city to 57 pop today. It was fun (although I kind of cheated by playing Aztec on Lakes). I think I could have done better - after turn 250ish I couldn't get more "I love the king" days because the city demanded whale and no one had whales.
I won on turn 366 via science. I goofed too much though; I probably could have won a lot sooner if I just manned up and went for diplomatic, but my gpt was really low and I didn't feel like risking it.

almost won a cultural victory but the lag between turns was too much and going to abandon my game. All I am doing is pressing next turn and moving my army around to deter invasions by the big 3 powers in the world.

Quick combat + quick movement

Quick combat at least, I like to see the movement

Always on quick everything for me. Otherwise the game is just so slowpaced in my opinion, but then I also play on marathon or epic all the time.

Yes I usually leave movement on, but sometimes I have so many CSs allied that it takes too long to see the CSs move.
