This is my favorite change. I really disliked how easy it was to one-shot units and take cities within a single turn. Hopefully they scale everything appropriately.

So Carthage can cross Mountains(no - movement apparently) and get free harbors in Coastal cities.... I mean really?

Civs aren't really intended to be balanced against each other, it's never been an issue before. Some single players civs are vastly better than others. Even in multiplayer, the civs are hardly balanced. I think it's good to have some "easy" civs and some "hard" civs.

The expansion is coming out and I was wondering do I need to buy the regular version as well? Or can I just get the expansion? Thanks.

How the mountain crossing thing works out really depends on whether ranged combat units can fire while on top mountains. If so then you can just plunk artillery or archers up there and kill everything, if not then it might be okay. But Carthage crossing mountians is stupid for historical reasons; they only did it once and even then Hannible lost like all of his elephants in the process.
The free harbors I can see working okay, Iroqois already basically get free roads early and Rome's Legionaries can also essentially build roads for free.

You need some semblance of balance though, it's no fun if one Civ can just stomp everyone else because of certain balance issues.

Almost completely sure that you will need both, since it's an expansion. It's on pre-sale on Steam and it does not include the original game by default.

The Terran of CIV?

Gotta say this game was crazy fun for the first few playthroughs. Hours would fly by in a blink of an eye! Even when victory was already a forgone conclusion, there was just something inherently satisfying in pummeling city after city to the ground as your opponents attempt to buy you off with offers of peace treaties every few turns.
Buuut... the game got stale pretty fast after that :T The game is just too repetitive for my taste -- at first I manually controlled everything, but now I just set everything to auto to combat the monotony. I guess Civilization type games just aren't for me. But it was definitely worth it for the $8 or something that I got for it on sale!

I was really worried after watching that video where they talked about new civilizations for 4 minutes and didn't say anything about the new mechanics, really (I mean it's kind of interesting but who cares when they could tell me stuff about mechanics instead). But that PC gamers article makes me hope that the game will gain a lot of depth with religion and espionage, and thats something this game is lacking a lot.
Edit:
When I discovered that the leader of a neighboring civilization was plotting against me, I used two Great Generals to build forts along my border and stationed a line of defensive units. I also built an army deep within my borders and secretly constructed a railroad that allowed me to rapidly flank one of his vulnerable cities. By the time he declared war, I was in a position to make it hurt. The intel my spy recovered changed the outcome of battles and made me feel like a more powerful and competent leader, which is the feeling I play Civ for.
This bit about Espionage could make Singleplayer a lot more fun, (or be imbalanced :D ) but I am really wondering how it will affect MP, if it does at all

Patch has been released:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=464312
Unique advisor portraits per era now show up for the advisor counsel screens and advisor info screens.
Finally.
Might as well start new games as this a update pre G&K and probably will whack out your saved games.

You know what nevermind this patch is awful, the turn times are LONG as hell.

I don't understand, why is it messing with turn lengths?
- Options menu now contains "Skip intro video."
Well, that's only been needed since release. Lol, poor people who didn't figure out to how modify the config file to turn it off.

What mods from the Steam Workshop would you guys recommend?

Did they move up the release date? I thought it was the 26th... I'm quite happy to be mistaken, though =D

For example, one who played Denmark loads their saved game is now playing Spain and has massive unhappiness. Just look at the 2k forums: http://forums.2kgames.com/forumdisplay.php?86-Civilization-V-Support Yep, all of the civilizations in my saved game changed (including mine). Oh well, time to start a new one.

Anyone found the expansion for under 15$?
