Haven't played the game yet but I have to agree with the Eurogamer article. None of these features are new, in fact they seemed to be dumbed down versions wrapped in plastic and presented as something new.

The Netherlands, Mayans, Carthage etc. are not new civs in the sense of the series; give us something "new" new is what I think the article is saying in a sense.

I'm interested in how spies will work. Joystiq was much more positive with their review and my biggest problems with playing Civ V is two things: 1. Little do after the first main stages of the game. It felt too empty where you either made units, attacked, played the long and boring path of tech-racing/culture farming or just sit and die

and 2. someone would always be so far ahead that the game was practically over regardless what you did. This happened a lot with one friend doubling in points relatively fast somehow.

I'm hoping this expansion tries to rectify that.

I wont be able to play until I get off work at 6am CST, so if anyone can pull themselves away from the game long enough to give impressions, I'd be quite greatful to hear them =D Having stuff to read makes work go by much quicker.
