As for land, what happens to the unit if you surround the city its trying to access with units for a siege? probably cant path through them the way you cant through a neutral unit. So I wonder what happens in terms of neutral trade routes and war?

I don't mind losing if I play poorly--which is normally the case since I'm a Prince player. But when I lose cause the AI generates unlimited gold, units, etc it took away form the game. Oh please, you act like this is the only Civ game where the AI cheats. Every Civ game has had varying levels of cheating AI. Hell, in Civ 1, AIs would just randomly get Wonders, completely free and at random. If that Wonder hadn't been built and they had the tech to build them, they could magically appear in a city. I've yet to see any 4X game where non-cheating AI is able to play anywhere near as well as a player. Indeed, I've yet to see any game where non-cheating AI can play as well as any player. Outside of dedicated expert systems like Deep Blue, which were designed by dozens of people for the expressed purpose of playing that game, it's very rare to see game AI that is both fair and difficult.

But I think due to one unit per tile, the AI is even more severely handicapped. The AI does not really know how to use siege units properly and does not have a general sense of positioning.

I've been playing since Civ II-- I'm very much aware. 2) I was commenting that the cheating is severe enough that it took away from the gameplay- where as in previous versions it didn't seem so bad. 3) A new gen game- should not suffer even more severally the issues of its predecessor. 4) Relax. Wish they would of taken more time to get the AI right or make multiplayer more viable.

Actually, even Deep Blue cheated to a degree. IIRC there were some specific endgame situations that were coded on the basis of memorization into the AI. I don't mean the technique, but like a situation in which there is a king two moves diagonal-in front from the enemy pawn with the enemy king behind.

I think K-Mod for Civ4 is good enough to give average player run for a money in Noble.

There is a lot of selection if you merely type "Let's play civilization". Any gems anyone recommend? The most popular option is SBFMadDjinn, he puts out a lot of content with reasonably high level play, but I find him insufferable both on the forums and his videos, and he's not nearly as good as he thinks he is. TheMeInTeam is the best player I'm aware of who makes videos, but he never plays Civ V anymore; I think all of his videos are pre-G&K. ElceePlaysCiv is pretty good, only has a couple of LP's up so far though. PrimEvalCIV posts tons of videos of multiplayer games from the civfanatics forums and the level of play is pretty high.

If you want to play some games hands-on, you can start with the Immortal Challenges on civfanatic (I make some of them) - in which you can play the same save as everyone else. There are also Deity Challenges which are a bit harder but more popular. On May 06 2013 08:49 Chocolate wrote: Actually, even Deep Blue cheated to a degree. Well, all this complaints about AI are pretty moot. Civ is a turn-based game played on a big board - and with our current knowledge in AI we always struggle on making a computer play these games. One of the biggest reason why Deep Blue is so good at chess is that chess has a very small board (8x8) and each piece has only so many move options. In fact, as of right now we can't even make an AI that can play Go well on the standard 19x19 board - and Go is WAYYYYY smaller/simpler than a Civilization game.
