Awesome read
Savior was an incredible revolutionary player, but clearly a flawed human being. Oddly enough, most great athletes are.
Just as the Black Sox scandal overshadowed Joe Jackson's marvelous career (and there is some doubt he was even really that involved), the match fixing will overshadow Savior's (and there is no doubt on the amount of his involvement)
Its probably not possible but I'd love for part 2 to cover a lot about Savior personally, why he chose to do what he did, and what his regrets are. Would be an interesting human interest piece.

God I think these final edits are my absolute favorite part of the site. Thanks a ton for putting it together and keep em coming!!!! Can't wait for part 2.

never really saw many of saviors's games and the match-fixing stuff was definitely in my head everytime i heard the name savior... even better to read such an article, that shows the brilliant gamer! definitely an awesome read!
btw, i was a bit curious about one thing...why now?

This makes me wish I had followed BW.
|
I can't believe I played SCBW for so long and never caught onto the tournament scene... this article makes me long for what I missed while playing UMS games with my roommates...
|
I hope SC2 will have the depth SC:BW has right now.
The small nuances, the positioning, the alternating builds, still so fascinating.
Fantastic article, props to OP

Really great article. Coming from the perspective of someone who wasn't around during these days it was especially interesting.

That picture is still the most epic progamer depiction ever. Great writeup

AMAZING WRITEUP... I wish I had gotten into Brood War before I did...

As I heard about Saviour being involved in the scandal, I lost any respect for him. But this article made me realize, that Saviour – as a player – should be judged not so easily.
I still don't know what to think of him. Playing a competitive game should exclude any fixing.
Luxury and Hwasin also were involved. My world broke the day it was confirmed that players of this level fixed matches. Disgusting.
Still, this article forces me to think again.

Another Final Edit? So soon? This one feels proper, though -- it's a monolith of a post!
Graphics are shiny and awesome, as usual. Still reading through. Good work, chaps. Ver never disappoints.

amazing work Ver truly inspirational

Savior is the reason that I'm a Starcraft fan. I found a video of Klazart commentating a series of him vs iloveoov a very long time ago, and got hooked. He's the reason why I'm a huge CJ Entus fan, and he's the reason that I'm a zerg player. My entire Starcraft identity was forged by watching Savior. He was such a dominant player, and it was truly heartbreaking when he got banned last year. I felt like I had been betrayed, and I'm still bitter about it.
Regardless though, Savior is the best Zerg ever. Not even Jaedong can compare to him. I will always love the Maestro for introducing me to competitive Starcraft, and hate him for cutting out my heart the way that he did.

Awesome read for someone like me that is ignorant when it comes to the BW era. I liked the part about the maps and how he looked for answers instead of just punting the games and blaming balance. Reminds me of Fruitdealer not losing a single round on Kulas the entire GSL he won and winning on those maps in the finals ^^ (I know that Fruitdealer isnt anywhere near the level that Savior was.)
|
First paragraph, last sentence. It should "Of all time".
Great read, I am not really familiar with older BW scene but this gave me a new perspective.
|
Awesome writeup, really nice graphics and awful timing
Jaedong has a nice and shiny 19-5 record in ZvT for 2011. With a clear victory over Flash in the MSL finals (and you know it's going to happen), Jaedong will take the crown of the best ZvTer ever.

Great Graphics by Hawaiian Pig and Disciple!! Awesome article!

Wow. Holy shit, that is an amazing article, I don't get nerdchills reading that often. And I can't believe it has only been a year. With SC2 and all, it feels like ages ago to me, yet makes me still so sad. Oh savior, why have you done what you did...
