I feels in many ways Shinkai Makoto is the opposite of Miyazaki Hayao, in that Miyazaki is very much macro oriented while Shinkai is micro oriented. Grave of Fireflies is pretty sad, but also uplifting in some way. Definitely worth a watch.

If you are any good at Chinese you can also figure out by context pretty quickly what is wrong and piece out a decent bit of information. Blast was just somehow consistently wrong about most things.
