But I'm curious why you think that's special. Isn't "getting killed=you die" standard in almost any action/fantasy/adventure show? Is it just the novelty of it being in a video game that makes it different?
I thought the premise was great because the world still behaved exactly like a videogame. That is, anyone, in theory, could've become OP kirito and godmode the game with enough training and imba equips.
Cue Kaal's eyerolls about SAO only being popular because of self-insertion.
lol I guess I shouldn't have been sarcastic. I just meant training/farming is actually a legitimate way to get stronger.
Also uta, Amnesia ep7. Kento. rofl too funny.
Even still, the idea of training/looking for a legendary weapon to get stronger isn't uncommon in the fantasy genre, so I don't know why that would add to how interesting the premise is.
I liked it because there would be zero factoring in any "power of friendship" or "willpower" or other tropes that affect training arcs or battles. It would be restrained completely by RPG rules but at the same time, always realistic with no shortcuts given the bounds of the rules. I'm sure you could give me examples which manage to execute training arcs without using silly, plot-convenient tropes, but my point is the premise itself was supposed to prevent those tropes (hence why I used the word '"legitimate") as opposed to just the writer avoiding them. How wrong was I.
Also I'm not going to respond anymore cause we both hate SAO so this is a waste of both our times. GGG finished downloading this morning. Do I start without Nagislowma?

lol I guess it would become boring once the initial entertainment of his character wears off. The pacing is the best thing about the anime so far imo.

Anyone here reading Shokugeki no Soma? Like manga Iron Chef, food so far seems pretty accurate.
I gave it a try because a friend said it was kind of like Yakitake! with reactions and stuff. Seems pretty interesting so far... although some of the reactions looked like they were taken straight out of a hentai.. (like the Honey money shot).
Anyway, the prequel Gaiden/Spiral Labyrinth for LoGH is quite enjoyable so far, I'm halfway through it at the moment. Took me a moment to get used to Yang's new voice though :/

Yeah, watch without Nagislowma, if you wait for him you will never watch it.

Yeah, I think it was mentioned in the IRC or here before so I knew why. Just makes it more sad. I'm about halfway through (~episode 25), and so far past the initial 14 episodes which were Yang it's been all Empire, which has been fun, but please tell me I'll get a decent amount of Yang in the second half too, lol.

Yang gets 1 long arc, and the rest is split between Reinhard and Kircheis. Schenkopp gets a bit too, IIRC.

Hmm... the problem with the VN is that the pattern goes
Lose memory ↓ Find out in relation of some sort, which started close to when you lost memory ↓ Sidle up to person while trying to regain memories ↓ All lost memories related to significant other ↓ Spend rest of game trying to figure out what your problem was with the significant other (who always feels some sort of complex about you not liking them -- in Kento's case, he assumes you hate his guts) ↓ Your experiences having been with them post-memory-loss allow you to reconcile ↓ Happily ever after~
So then once you get to like point 4/5 it's like nurgh.
-- and then, I climbed. -- the tower. -- an inexplicable corridor. -- an inexplicable set of stairs. -- when I realized it, I was walking. -- realized it? no, I'm not sure. -- I felt like I was circling. -- I was circling as I walked. -- the helical stairs. -- the helical corridor. -- climbed. and climbed, and walked, and climbed. -- what is this. There's no use resisting. You lack speed. Speed is power. The conditions that ensnare you. The reason that you cannot break free from the shackles of a second-rate student. Do you know why? That thing called the structure of the world. That strength you decisively lack. You don't have it, the speed, to progress regardless of all obstacles. You lack power. You're, slow. Life is a road. Those who walk slow are the first to tumble, crumbling off. That's why this is where you end.
You, who hold brilliance. Young one, who has not lost nobility. I have heard your voice. Now, call. I shall come. Toward the sky of despair, call my name. -- and with the thunder. I shall come.
In an attempt to revive TLADT movie nights, I am thinking of streaming Sword of the Stranger sometime this weekend. I have not seen it but it's been on my watch list for some time and I've heard good things about it. Yes/no/ratherwatchavatarwithznfans?

8pm EST would probably be best all round to include people in different time zones.
Just wondering does everyone in this forum know enough Japanese to read visual novels (relatively) fluently? Because I find not knowing Japanese severely limits the number of visual novels i can read and it makes me sad.
On that note, not sure if you guys know this already but some guy on yt posted a full english translation of Fortissimo EXA//Akkord:Bsusvier as well as its expansion nachsten phase. His username is COMegamanexe

There are a number of people here that can read Japanese well enough. Though I haven't played any VN in years, it's good to read LN as translation rate on those are abysmal.

A tiny minority, like 3 regular posters in this thread, can actually read Japanese.

Has to be more than 3 right? Ecael, Southlight, Kaal, Elem and Rebs? I'm sure I'm missing a bunch.

Kaal/Elem/Rebs can read Japanese? News to me.
According to my sources, Kaal can't read japanese, and Elem can only read kana, not sure if that counts. No clue about Rebs.
