The thing is TWGOK is probably great for your usual harem lover but harem genre is just so unapealing to me that I just skip everything that has that tag on it. I despise the usual harem shows so much that I've only watched Ouran Host Club that i didnt find it that good and reading Nozoki Ana from the harem genre but I can see past it for obvious reasons It's good, it's different from the usual harem manga but it's still a harem manga. If I had to pinpoint why it's good/different/the same, it's because it feels like TWGOK has a lot more decisiveness in it. There's a clear goal in each of the stories and even the big arc it's in right now. Of course, that goal is clearing girls so it's still a harem manga.
Just because its an otaku parody of harems doesnt mean it's better than other ones.

Hmm well, the MC is not interested in girls but makes them fall in love with him to get rid of the evil inside of them. The girls are overall appealing I would say because they're not as stupid as harem girls are. Sometimes there are hints of a main storyline but overall the manga is more comedy than anything. The MC isn't a clueless likely-homosexual fag like in most harems, and actually tries to avoid women. He's forced out of his own little world of galge gaming and is forced to apply his vast knowledge in conquering girls from games in the real world. Since life is different from a game he runs into unforeseen problems that he has to pass by on the go, cursing the "real world". It does not help that his partner is a "useless bug-demon"
Overall the manga is enjoyable. The harem is pretty much forced onto the protag, and hilarity ensues.

The lack of decisiveness is an often heard complaint.
Basically, what I'm saying is, the Shuffle! anime was a great anime.

TWGOK is enjoyable. One good thing is the Protagonist is more active and attractive. But generally it's not so much different from regular harem mangas.

you haven't seen very many harem anime have you? First, episode 12 was the last episode and this was just a random filler last episode. Second, harem anime almost always have indecisive endings with no real resolutions, as is being discussed regarding TWGOK and harems. Who knows whether it will get another season or not, but this was the most average harem type anime and ending. + Show Spoiler + Mirai appearing like 5 times this episode was entertaining though, in addition to the now blatant Aria and Kampfer cosplay.

I would always recommend you watch the first FMA anime just because it's more solidly constructed but that opinion gets quikly drowned out by the purists. For some reason:
Literal copy of manga > better production
But i suppose it's the same as with books. People that read them seem to have a peculiar need to justify their read through. They love the work so they love the author so they see any deviation from the plot to be akin to raping the author.
Really? I though it was pretty much unanimously accepted that brotherhood was better in general. I also think this is true. Simply because the end of the original was extremely rushed and the beginning was really dragged on with alot of filler episode. Also, Mustang rape faces. Definitely the coolest character in the series and they went into more deep about him. + Show Spoiler + He owned 2 homonculus....like nothing. If he doesnt get water dripped on him, he was definitely the strongest alchemist in the series.
I am definitely not bias because I didnt read the manga. I just felt that brotherhood was better but everyone has their own opinion but I am pretty sure the majority will say brotherhood not because of their fanboy urges but because it simply better.

Both OK. People dislike original FMA for its ending. I personally enjoyed it more. The 'fillers' didnt feel much like fillers and the general pace was slower and more enjoyable. Too much geared toward action in Brotherhood.

Pacing for Horizon interesting. They slammed 200 pages into one episode. On one hand it's a good thing they did because it's a "pilot" episode for a lot of people, on the other hand it gives people a weird impression of it and leaves some dialog-heavy stuff.

You didn't like them actually setting things up, giving us an idea of where motivations lie? I mean this is so much better than what FSN started out with, and gives a reason to care what these guys are going to do.

I thought it wasn't bad, even if it was mostly dialogue. It has to start somewhere, and you might as well introduce the characters and the backstories.

Well, I assume F/Z also has to cater to those who does not know anything about F/SN. So might as well do an intro to the basic system of the holy grail war.

About FMA Original and Brotherhood:
Both series had their strengths and weaknesses. The original was REALLY good, up until around the Lab 5 part (at least I think thats what it was called). Everything was paced nicely, and the "filler" in the beginning actually was really handled well, and let us get to know the main characters more. You get to know other supporting characters like Hughes better. But after that, it kinda completely lost direction, and went off into crazy land.
Brotherhood on the other hand, pretty much fast forwarded through the early parts up to Lab 5, with different things here or there. So IMO, this was an example of something the original did better. However, after this, Brotherhood's followup is tons better in pretty much every single way. And since most of the series in Brotherhood is stuff from AFTER Lab 5, Brotherhood is just overall better.

Terrible terrible last episode.

Fate/Zero's first episode was a good introduction. No action, but not a big deal. Its good to get all the character introduction and background stuff out of the way in 1 episode (even if it was really long).

I completely agree. It was a great episode regardless. Chibi Rin and Sakura was pretty sweet as well. :D
