I'm fairly certain it was a plot from Littlefinger to start a war between the Lannisters and Starks, so Ned could die (or be sent to the wall), and he would end up with his beloved Cat. How could Littlefinger even know anything about Bran or what happened in Winterfell? He was in King's Landing at the time. Or are you saying the assassination was entirely unrelated to Bran knowing about Jame and Cersei?

How does the show make it obvious? Does she admit to doing it? IIRC she rages at Jaime for throwing Bran off the wall (she says "How could you be so stupid!?") so why would she be stupid enough to send someone with that particular dagger? It makes much more sense for Littlefinger to be the one behind that one as he is so manipulative and probably knew it would start a war between Lannister and Stark.

I'm sure he knew about it. But that made me think a bit, how did they get the dagger to winterfell so quickly? Whoever did it would have to send the dagger from Kings landing to winterfell in about no time. And Doves/Ravens aren't strong enough to fly with those things

We don't know if Varys knew half a day after Bran was tossed out of the window, we only know that he knew of the assassination attempt after it happened. And as others said, the logistics of doing this in such a short time from King's Landing makes it look like a bit of a stretch.

I googled and apparently there is an answer. If youd like me to tell you send me a pm.

There was no spoiler involved within my post, but if merely typing the word book is too much then delete it I guess my bad. Actually I'll just alter the wording.

Read the big box above: "Just don't mention the books at all." there is an answer to everything, and that's not a spoiler, so get that stick out of your butt

Maybe it was infact tywin, jamie or cersi could have told him, and he said hed sort it out, and decided to frame tyrion.

Littlefinger didn't 'blame' Tyrion, he just said that the blade was won from him by Tyrion if I recall correctly. We don't even know that it's really Tyrion's blade. In episode 3, LF says: "at least it was, until the tournament on prince Joffrey's last nameday. I bet on Ser Jaime in the jousting, as any sane man would, when the Knight of the Flowers unseated him. I lost this dagger" "to whom" "Tyrion Lannister, the imp." Now if that were true, then that would mean that Tyrion bet against Jamie. Knowing Tyrion, and how much he loves Jaime, it doesn't seem very likely for him to bet against his brother.

Has it been claimed that Jaime is a great jouster? I thought Jaime was good with a sword. We have seen Loras beat the Mountain in a joust so it is not difficult to believe Tyrion might bet on him over Jaime. Littlefinger did not go to Winterfell as far as we know. Someone in the King's party had to carry the dagger from KL to Winterfell.

The owner must have been there, and he is probably the culprit. Did Tyrion ever say if he was in posession of the knife and/or who he gave it/ lost it to?

LF's phrasing ('as any sane man would') implies that he is (or rather was, I don't suppose one can joust well with 1 hand).
