Thinking about the circumstances of Rita's death leaves me really sad and infuriated. It was just so cruel. The whole time Trinity was on the table, he was at total peace, lecturing Dexter on his naivety, listening to Dexter explain how he had a family, knowing the whole time that he really didn't anymore....
The cruelness of Rita's murder, and the way that Trinity sent a message with it, stands in contrast to Dexter's small act of kindness by letting him die to the sound of his train set and Vera's favorite record. Holy fuck....
Add the fact that Dexter SAVED Trinity's life and it makes Rita's murder all the more tragic. This will be all on Dexter. He is going to have to somehow, come to grips with all this next season.
Yeah. Poor, sweet, innocent Rita. Can you imagine? She probably died like the girl in the first episode. Maybe Trinity whispering some twisted things before he cuts her. I can't believe they killed her. For the first time there seemed to be a real bond between Dexter and Rita. I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally hope they won't do the whole code teaching thing with Harrison (or Cody or Astor), that would be so dumb. Just leave it at this "poetic" born in blood thing. Also Quinn becoming the new Doakes in s5 (and indeed it seems like this season is setting that up) would suck. At the end it seemed like Dexter was contemplating giving up killing and trying to do the normal family thing. Trying to gain control of his demons. Maybe Rita's death sends him into a downward spiral and he starts losing it. Maybe he'll kill more and more people while needing less and less evidence. So for 4 seasons Dexter has shown emotional growth, which seemed to be at an all time high 5 minutes before the end and then Rita's death sends him into madness. Sounds a bit cliché I guess, but could be cool to watch. I can't see how he could possibly continue on this path of emotional growth after this.
Or it could be just the opposite. Dexter has shown emotional growth over the 4 seasons and now he learns that emotion can cause pain so he snaps back into cold and emotionless Dexter as a defense mechanism. Besides, I think people are overestimating his affection for Rita. Even until the end he was lying to her, telling her to go to the Keys just so he could take care of business. He didn't really care at all that Elliot kissed her when she told him. Of course that's probably not going to happen, but I can dream can't I? Also I would love to see Deb move in with Dexter to take care of the kids. They are both such terrible parents I think it would create a lot of funny moments.
He did care and punch him in the face eventually, he just couldnt be mad at rita Also he lied to her and told her to go away to protect her, to avoid exactly what happened anyways because of bad luck
I really really liked this season, a lot more than season 3, like others I was a bit disappointed about the lack of a proper showdown, it seemed a bit too easy for dexter to kill trinity but then that ending... jesus
I hope they begin the next season exactly where they left off. And not like a couple of weeks later. I want to see what Dexter's going to do at this moment.
Yeah me too, I wanna see exactly how he reacts, how the cops/debra/quinn arrive etc., how they treat him.. Man the Morgan family is fucked
Like every secret was exposed except for dexter being a serial killer. Now he has alot of shit to deal with. Debrah knowng about the icetruck killer and dexters mom, dead wife and fucked up son, man next season will be fantastic.
i felt the killing of rita was made too obvious, especially when they started talking about the boy and starting a new cycle. it made the end scene anticlimactic for me. honestly i felt season 4 did not have the intensity to it that the other seasons, especially season 2 did.
Rita's killing was totally unexpected for me. I didn't expect her to come back when Dexter sent her off like that. Trinity didn't even get to kill the boy, so I thought that his cycle was interrupted and that he would have to get someone else.
haha i thought the finale wasnt obvious because it was so obvious. i dunno whether to like it or dislike it. There is some sick leveling going on, depends on which level you're thinking i guess.

yeah exactly. It was the obvious thing to do, but it felt right.

Dexter will probably be arrested for rita's murder. His behavior over this past season, especially with quinn watching him, will be closely scrutinized. If you think about it, there are plenty of witnesses that could prove motive.

safe his ass for what reason ? His wife got murdered / did suicide ( i know she didnt but it looks like at least ). How do u get the idea dexter is under suspicion ? Dont get it..
very sick ending would have never expected rita to die after dexter did his work and.. well the scene and the last view seconds of this episodes just gave me shivers
excellent.. and now the long and hard wait begins.. time for me to try out new shows.. anyone here who likes dexter can recommand me any particular ones ?
thx for your introduction to this great series... i watched 2 episodes so far and both were 10/10. the father from malcom in the middle was a fantastic cast! although there are 2 seasons i guess i will be finished rather quickly - so any other recommandations from you guys?
when Deb is talking to Christine, Chrisine asks if Deb may forgive her and Deb starts sobbing and says "fuck no!", wow that whole dialogue scene was awesome.
I concur Trinity killed Rita. Once you watch the whole table scene again, everything he says make sense, also look at Rita's arm pointing the ring.
I also liked, I don't know about you guys, but this season was the first time I felt Harry's ghost actually was useful, helpful, contributed to Dexter and wasn't annoying like before.
question: when does next season start ? September ?
oh my I'm gonna have to get someone pregnant to make the wait pass faster.
I really think keeping this alive for one more bump is warranted.
I had previously seen the first two seasons a long time ago but took a big break before seeing seasons 3 and 4. I think both season 1 and 2 offered really creative storylines and kept me entertained the entire time. The end of season 2 was a bit silly and obnoxious but you know who blowing up made it all worth it.
Season 3 I liked the idea behind but thought it wasnt delivered quite well enough. The last couple of episodes were really a big let down in how things got concluded. I really liked the characters in that season though.
Now season 4 I just finished and am not sure what to think.
It was really hard for me to take John Lithgow serious for most of the season. His character really developed in the last couple of episodes and I thought the season got its bearings (a lot of the middle episodes seemed pretty bland). I do like how he actually had difficulty with a bad guy for once though. Constantly having his plans foiled made for a very exciting finale.
The ending I wasnt too impressed with though. Dont get me wrong, I'm all for a sad ending (I usually prefer sad endings when they arent predicted), but having Rita be killed based on pure luck was kind of campy to me. I find it pretty silly that there are now 3 kids (2 boys 1 girl... sound familiar) who lost their mom the same way Dexter did. To me it just feels like 4 seasons of character development washed down the drain.
What will make me completely change my mind about the ending of season 4 is if they can run with their new story AMAZINGLY flawless. They sure have their work cut out for them.
Either way, this is one of my favorite shows of all time. Then again, I loved Six Deet Under...

It will be very difficult for the writers to create a consistent, satisfying season 5. There are so many things they can do wrong, making the story completely unbelievable. I will be disappointed if they make Quinn a new Doakes, or have Dexter teach Harrison (or whoever) the code for some reason, or ship Cody and Astor off to their grandparents. I know that's probably why they introduced them already but it makes no sense. Dexter has been pretty much their father for the past 4(?) years and children seem to be his soft spot. Of course that would make him a single father of 3, making his life even more complicated than it already is. But maybe THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE KILLED OFF RITA.

I actually thought John Lithgow did an excellent job. I was surprised at their choice, especially since I have seen a bit of 3rd rock from the sun, but he had me convinced that he was a serial killer. It wasn't perfect, but I was very entertained. The final showdown was a bit anticlimactic and truthfully, it was a bit of a waste to get rid of Rita like that. I wasn't really expecting the ending because it was so expected, but I still thought it was a fitting end.
