I find it interesting people think that because Korra's only missing element is air that there's nowhere for the series to go. A bit of imagination people, come on! =P

It's good they aren't just going to stick to a formula every time (hi Pokemon) but are hoping to explore some variety in story. So far I have to say it's to great effect with the strong female lead, a set environment and more mature themes. I'm really enjoying this season so far.

Re: Amon's identity. I don't think it's a "thing", but rather his scar story is true and he might personally feel his face must be hidden. I agree with the expectation that he is a bender, because Aang's ability was to bend the ability to bend which appeared to rely upon understanding bending. Of course this was taught to him by a mystical creature who appears to be linked with the spirit world. Regardless I like the Koh talk and I really do hope the spirit world is explored more this season.

I also like that they haven't flat out revealed everything in the first episode in some verbal diarrhoea. Like the current status of Zuko, or even the current Firelord. The other two sons of Aang/Katara. The history of Sokka, Suki, Azula, Toph, etc. And every episode gives you a tiny bit more information before raising more questions. Ahhh, to be able to write well in a world of fantasy is unfortunately a rare thing, but so far so good.

As a discussion point: The Last Airbender had a number of returning antagonists with the final boss of Ozai always a staple. If the anti-benders have other 'big boss' guys, what are you expecting? Just "better" chi blockers? Or perhaps that Tesla trooper guy is actually a big boss guy. Actually I wonder if we'll be seeing more of him. His voice and design was unique.

Not only this, but who's to say that the timeline of the first series is the same here, i.e. one element mastered a season. It could very well be that they get through this entire season just to reveal the identity of Amon, but take an additional season in order to defeat him. It could also be that it takes more time for her to learn air than one season. The possibilities are endless, and I think we shouldn't try to find too many time connections to the last one, so much as personal connections.

26 episodes is not a lot of time with which to construct a story. I mean, you can do it effectively, but you can't afford to put out episodes that don't fit into the broader scheme of things. We probably won't be seeing much filler at all; I would be surprised if more than one or two of the episodes in the series did not advance the plot significantly. Don't worry that there won't be much for Korra to do. I have a feeling that the pace of this series is going to feel rushed, if anything.

Recall that in season 3 of the original series, the show's writers had 21 episodes to execute what seemed like a fairly short plotline: Aang is in the Fire Nation, he needs to go defeat the Fire Lord. Yet the season seemed perfectly paced. Don't worry about where LoK is going. The show's creators know what they're doing. Just go along for the ride.

I'm sure they will make more than 26 episodes. It's currently set to run 26 but i wouldn't be suprised if they extented it more.

Nah, phonograph man is the descendant of cabbage man.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

Talking about the affinity thing, I would argue that she doesn't use that much waterbending, because it is not nearly as available as the other two. Water has to be at hand in order to water bend. Earth bending requires earth, but that is present almost anywhere (even in metal now apparently). Firebending requires even less, as it can be produced from basically nothing.

LOL the animation is indeed good, but I haven't noticed this. Gonna pay some more attention now. Hopefully it won't ruin it for me xD

Also, I am a 17 year old and I can confirm that 17 year olds act like that <_> 17 isn't that old, and it's not like even if you're 25 you can't joke around.

How can you not notice the animation with fight scenes like that?! Then again, maybe it's cause your 17 and all you've seen is great animation :-p. But seriously, go back to the 80's, then 90's, then early 2000's, then even like, 3 years ago. Times are a changing and a changing fast!

Heheh well I notice the fighting is obviously really well animated, (way better than the big 3 popular anime/manga one piece bleach naruto, tho mostly the latter two, god the animation is so horrible/inconsistent for an action show), but I meant I didn't notice the mouth movement :D

I've re-looked at it and wow lol, this is so much better than in anime xD.

Another thing, I'm not sure I quite like the CG backgrounds during fights. It definitely makes it feel much deeper/real, and makes it much more dramatic. But I usually dislike CG just cus it makes things look awkward since it's not 2D. However their use of it in korra looks fine, and i'm indifferent about it for now. It's not 2D but it still blends in well. However, when they had that CG car, that was quite annoying to see. LoK is still probably one of the best shows I've seen using CG but it still just feels weird. The car's not supposed to attract that much attention is it? It should be the guy in it and Bolin's expression/reaction. (Look at Rebuild of Evangelion, omg their use of CG is so annoying lol).

Which makes me question tho; if the CG for that one car for that one scene was pretty good (relatively), is it really even worth it to make it CG? The car was only there for a few seconds, why couldn't they have just kept it 2D? Did they really really need to show the car bouncing up and down as the guy came off of it, instead of just keeping a still background and drawing focus to the guy coming out of it instead of the car itself?

lol, ive only seen a couple animes but I'm assuming youre referring to the fact that talking usually consists of two movements: open mouth and close mouth.

The animation is usually pretty top notch in Avatar. As comparison, I remember sometimes in Naruto the movements were just so clunky and their expressions bordered on the derp face

well Naruto is like the worst anime you could pick when you are looking for quality. Naruto gets produced on a weekly basis so the animation is garbage most of the time.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he was simply being either tricked or controled by an evil spirit (please be Koh or have him invoved) since he openly mentions comuning with them. That story he said about the fire-bender that killed his father could probably be true and that grief lead him to the 'dark side' of the spirit world. I really doubt he is the be-all, end-all villian of this series if they introduced him this early (considering i dont think we saw Fire-Lord Ozai fully until like late season 2 or even 3). But who knows.

The thing is aside of the gangs we havent really seen any "benders opressing non-benders thing. Althou i completly understand the tention. Before all the loyalties were within the 4 nations, even allied nations would feel less bender v nonbender and more our nation vs their nation. Now that the 4 are united it makes perfect sence that this new conflict would happen.[

Koh would be amazing. I hadn't even thought of that being a possible reason for him wearing mask.

It seems to me though that he is an energy bender, the way he placed his hands on the guy to take away his bending was really reminiscent of what Aang did to Ozai.

My personal bet is that he will end up being:
+ Show Spoiler +
Bumi. Aang's other son. Supposedly he wasn't a bender, but perhaps he inherited energy bending and it wasn't realized at first.

+ Show Spoiler +
Could it be that Amon actually is somehow possessed by the spirit of Ozai? This would explain how he could communicate to the spirit world, his wrath against benders and his dislike for the Avatar? It would also explain how he knows the basic way in which chi blocking is done and why he wishes for all bending to be gone. That said, Ozai would be dead and gone by now, but it is still a possiblility.

I have one question which might have been answered already somewhere or I just missed it in the episodes, but how can 2 brothers bend different types of elements? It doesn't make sense to me.

Would kinda suck if something of Ozai was still present. The whole series has moved on so they need a new antagonist too, not the old one that somehow managed to survive.

I'm quite sure it was stated earlier in the thread, but the reason 2 brothers can bend different elements is because they had parents from different nations as Republic city is where people from all 4 nations live so i guess it is common to see people from different nations marrying.

The show establishes very quickly that she is an Earthbender by nature (the way the avatars are reborn Air -> Earth -> Water -> Fire...think about the order in the last series). The reason we see so much waterbending is because the person that she replaced in the probending matches was a water bender. Keeping to the rules she has to water bend in those matches. Hope this helps :D

That's not the series it's air -> water -> earth -> fire as in autumn -> winter -> spring -> summer http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Avatar
Well that's the cycle of re-incarnation into different tribes not necessarily the cycle of elemental affinity. I agree she does indeed seem to be better suited to earth/fire rather than water I guess they wanted to have a protagonist of a different sort since water/air have similar personality types.

EDIT: Maybe because of Aang's ice-cube time it screwed up the elemental avatar cycle with affinity and tribes?
I reject your reality and substitute my own
