+ Show Spoiler + I'm not sure how I feel about Zaheer here. On one hand, it makes him come off as too much of a "good guy", but on the other hand he was never that bad to begin with. He was only willing to use whatever means necessary to achieve what he thought was right. In the end he only wanted to hurt people like the Earth Queen, but I don't think he can be defended too much though. He's definitely a bad guy, just not completely evil. Also, NO TOPH!!!! That sucked . The whole episode I was waiting for Toph to show up, but I guess it'll only be on the next one.Great episode though. Can't wait for the next one, as usual. So far Book 4 is rocking it for me.

So far Book 4 is rocking it for me. + Show Spoiler + I think i might have said it before here, but at the trailer i figured Zaheer would come around from the "bad side" towards the "good side" - just like Kuvira now, he actually isn't straight out bad, he just has a very different view on how the world should be run&ruled and because Kuvira goes against that, it seemed (semi-)logical that he would offer some advice or help Korra in a way to prepare her for the fight. Considering all the story was about Republic city this time, it seems a decent guess next one will at least have Kuvira/Toph in it, but if we're not lucky we might only hear about it (there's no way I see them getting away with Toph doing nothing). Not sure how I feel about Bolin going off on his own, I assumed he is a cricital ally for Korra in a fight against Kuvira&loyalists because he's the only (known) lavabender, so either the trip to get Opal's family out is a short one or I was wrong about him being a necessity for the "final fight". I'm also surprised about how Korra's issue was resolved - I like the points they made; "Remember what happened, but accept to live with it. Don't just shove it away and let it linger, as that doesn't solve issues - it rather creates new ones and moves about." I expected it would be some weird spirit somehow "reconnecting" her to Raava to get her back in full Avatar mode. Alot of the episodes this season have been focussing on Korra reconnecting and repairing who she was and considering this was the 9th out of 13 episode I didn't expect it to be happening anymore, I liked it.

She's apparently the worst dictator the Earth Kingdom has ever seen and even Zaheer has heard of her (presumably from spirit world gossip). To be honest the previous iterations of the Earth Kingdom hardly seemed like heaven on earth, so I don't buy this. There is also no good reason for Kuvira to mistreat the population that badly given that she's trying to win popular acclaim. I guess if you take what's implied in the show a bit further you could say that Kuvira is like a brutal warlord in a country with a history of civil wars, who mercilessly murders everyone in her way. But that's not what the show actually shows us, I don't think.

I think the show would benefit a lot if it were done a bit differently, but then I remember I'm not exactly in the target demographic . Still, I would have loved something like Korra admiting that it wasn't her place to support an archaic monarchy and that Kuvira actually did bring order to the chaos of the Earth Kingdom, only to actually confront Kuvira once she learned of the spirit laser thing (or better yet, if the Earth Empire started to mobilize towards reclaiming Republic City).

They start out as some apparent idealist but the show quickly tells you that in truth they're evil maniacs (I'm half-expecting that it will show that the bandits in the Earth Kingdom were employed by Kuvira all along). I don't think that all of the bandits in the beginning were under her orders, and some were just taking advantage of the chaos, but some were definitely used by Kuvira to leverage towns into siding with her.

I guess the "Zaheer helps Korra" thing that everyone predicted came true! What a surprise! Other unsurprising things: Prince Wu is an idiot! Tenzin doesn't want to attack! Raiko is useless! Varrick still denies any involvement in assassination plots and otherwise! The spirit wilds are angry that Kuvira is cutting down the swamp! Lin and Opal want to save their family and Bolin is going to help so Opal won't be mad at him anymore! Izumi (who got her first lines, woo) holding back is a tiny bit surprising, considering she's a firebender, but I guess the Fire Nation's reticence about starting wars is similar to that of modern Germany. Anyway, in all honesty, I enjoyed the episode despite the lack of surprising things. The prison was definitely well-designed. I thought the "translation" through the spirit world was kind of interesting, but I think that happened in Season 2 as well. Can't wait to see many Beifongs in action next episode ![]()

1. Toph wouldn't beat Kuvira's army and her fighting in the spirit wilds would be a waste. 2. No reason to assume they would keep Suyin in Zaofu. This clip shows that the writers were thinking the same thing. + Show Spoiler + But how did Toph know where they would land?

Kuvira is not a second rate bender, she is above most master benders and would give Toph a run for her money. Korra was also winning when she used the Avatar state, but lost went out of the Avatar state due to her trauma.

I will agree that the Avatar State has been weaker in LoK, but using those two examples and describing it that way is ridiculous.
