Im not sold on the whole energy bending bit just yet, Amon's story of the spirits coming to him didnt make too much sense (unless it was koh maybe) and the lack of celestial lights during the so called energy bending makes it a hard convince. could have just been advanced chi blocking. BUT i guess we'll find out!

doing spoiler tags just in case...
+ Show Spoiler +
Yeah i agree that has to be some super-chi blocking thing, i am betting it can be reversed by some Avatar-spirit ability. Althou I am more convinced than ever that Koh is invoved...

-Amon's Mask is very similer to what Koh's creepy white face looked like

-In the trailers we see Amon has some kind of mind-fuck ability that he uses to haunt Karra's dreams which implys some kind of spirit thing going on.

-Amon mentioned that the fire-bender who killed his family burned his face and that why he wears a mask...I am thinking that his face was stolen instead.

-Amon derectly mentions the spirit world who taught him the bender sepression ability

-They never really did anything with Koh or much with the spirit world in genral so there is a lot of potential therhe.

probably WAAAAY to early to be speculating like this what whatever =p

+ Show Spoiler +
Only thing I don't quite understand about the Koh link is that you can see his eyes through the mask.

The new episode is so good, though. I can't wait to see this unfold even more. I don't think they could have done any better than to reveal what Amon can do.

all the technology makes it feel so different from the last airbender. its pretty good so far but i feel things are so tense compared to the last airbender (except book 3), probably cuz it lacks sokka

Definitely loving the Tesla Trooper guys. You know, the one with the stun batons?

Anyways, does anyone else think the Equalists aren't the villains? The first scuffle Korra had with the guy shouting propaganda really made them look like the good guys. So did Amon taking away those criminals' bending.

Am I the only one who was disappointed at first how lightning has become more a common skill in firebending. In the first Avatar I always got the impression that bending with lightning was such an advanced skill that only the best of the best could do it, which is why only 3 firebenders were capable of using it in the first series. This impression was strengthened also by the fact that these 3 who could, were also considered the strongest firebenders in the fire nation. In the case of Azula, you could even say was a once in a generation prodigy that had the potential to even surpass both her father and uncle. Seeing both Mako and the crime boss bending lightning was disappointing because of what it seemed firebenders in the original who could bend lightning were capable of and seeing how lackluster the next generation seem compared to them. But I guess its a natural progression. It reminds me of bw and how back then stuff like marine micro was something only Boxer could do and now its such a common skill nowadays that we see even C level terrans showcasing it. Also forgot that Mako and Zolt weren't just average firebenders. Zolt is the head of the Triple Threat Triads and Mako seems to be a talented firebender. I am going to assume while it may not be as rare as the first show its still is a pretty advanced technique to use and the other people generating lightning with Mako were exceptionally skilled too.

On a off note when Lightning Bolt Zolt was bending lightning and Amon energy bended. You can see a brief moment where his lightning eventually turns to fire than dies out. I thought that was pretty cool since it was showing
the connection between lightning and fire and how lightning comes from fire.

Also Amon's supposed energy bending seems to be even more refined than Aang's because it was instant. Wonder how exactly the series will explain his background and how he obtained this ability.

Is it not just that mind bending from very end of the first series? Aang used it against the firelord, but somehow Amon has achieved it as well. Maybe nature fucked up and theres a good and evil avatar this cycle lol.

Either way it will be explained at some point and overall I'm really enjoying the series so far. The only thing that bothers me is all lightning bending. I thought that was only capable by the very highest tiers of fire benders

Wow, episode 3 was fucking awesome. It's like arcanum in tv form. The whole concept of magic vs. technology and the steam punk era fit together SO well.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. My post a few posts above was actually talking about that. After thinking about it more though it started to make sense why a skill that could only be used by the best before eventually becomes more common as time goes on.

There's a theory that when Azula "killed" Aang at the end of season 2, it partially triggered the next stage in the cycle. So a new Avatar was born then. But Aang improved, and there were now actually two Avatar cycles going on.

I know, they probably are the antagonists, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the villains. What I'm saying is that they seem to have the moral high-ground right now. Equality and all that jazz.

What I really like is how LoK has a darker, more mature atmosphere and soundtrack. It allows the original audience of TLA to appreciate the new series as well.

I'm pretty sure if aang actually died in the avatar state the next avatar wouldn't have been born. So that would not have triggered a new cycle. Also Aang's early death is pretty much confirmed to be a complication from staying in stasis for 100 years.

I would disagree with that theory because when Aang met Roku's spirit, Roku told him if the avatar is killed while he/she is in the avatar mode it would end the cycle. So for the brief period before Aang was resurrected the avatar cycle was gone.

Also I never thought about that with the post above. That the reason Aang died early might be because of his stasis for a hundred years.

Equality through violence and oppression of another people.

None of the extremists (the Equalists and the benders who abuse their power) are on the moral high ground. A lot of what TLA is about is balance, and I'm sure that will play a huge part in the story line later. Balance with each other, not the oppression or extermination of another.

I do agree that a lot of the people who like Equalistis and agree with them will not be as 'black' as Amon - they will all have stories and gray areas that explain why they think the way they do. Sort of like how we always figured fire benders to be ALL evil in the first TLA, but were shown they were all different. Good and bad. With that said, I can't wait to find out who Amon is. My guess is he's simply found a way to block bending...not completely take it away, and someone will find a 'cure'.

I gotta say I was really impressed by the last episode.

Short review:
- It's amazing how in only about 20 minutes so much happens, yet nothing seems rushed.
- The richness of the Avatar world is amazing. Every day we learn something new about Republic City and the new era.
- Like someone else mentioned, there doesn't seem to be a clear line between good and evil here. The Equalists have their noble motives and the "good" benders also have their noble motives.
- Humor in the Avatar has always been good and there's shortage of it to.
- I really liked the color scheme during the night scenes and the creepy background music to accompany it. I think those are giving LoK a distinctive feel from the original Avatar series. There seems to be some Cowboy Bebop and Batman: Gotham Knight influences (I dunno, my anime knowledge is really limited, but those two seem to have some influence on the art and music style)
- If there was one minus, I feel that eliminating the Triad boss early was a bummer. Would have been interesting if there were a third force in the picture. Hopefully another gang rises up. Didn't the orphan informant boy say that there seemed to be a turf war brewing and that other gangs existed?

You can watch the full third episode legally at http://www.nick.com/videos/clip/legend-of-korra-103-the-revelation-full-episode.html. I'm so glad that nic is doing this, since people would most likely torrent the eps anyway.
