I found the entire Meereen plot to be completely unnecessary. She could have just as easily wandered into the Red Wastes and run into Khal Jhaqo after leaving Qarth.
By the way, did anyone else get ridiculously annoyed that Daenerys' plot was basically the same exact thing copied twice? She limps into Qarth, tries to make shit happen, fails, her dragon burns everything, she leaves.

Seriously? It took GRRM 12 years to come up with that plot?

That last comment about Ser Pounce and Lady Whiskers reminded me the genius of GRRM. Sometimes we get so caught up in the story that we miss just how deep every single character is. Even characters that have almost zero screen time, or chapters written on them.

In the books it's Bran leaving Winterfell, but since we know he's alive in there it's certainly not as dramatic as it could be, and thus I don't know if it will remain as the season closer.
Will it be "Whitebeard"? Will it still be Bran? Theon? Will it be something from the opening of the third book? Like Davos washing up on a rock?
Imo it still will be bran leaving winterfell combined with Theon getting overrun. A friend of mine made the argument that television audiences might not be as interested in Selmy appearing for that to be enough of a closing scene. The south is pretty much done with s09. They didn't focus on anything else so I doubt KL will have more then 5 minutes time (if any) so: stuff that's happening that might become cliffhangers. and by that I mean things that will make the viewers go "Oooh what will happen next".
An army appears to siege Theon. (I don't think they will take it in this season)
Daenarys burning down the tower of the undying or maybe just Ta-daa decides to finally go there, I don't know? Build-up/tension. (btw. I can't wait to see how they depict the visions)
Jon duel Qhorin and maybe it will stop just before he gets to meet Mance.
Arya-Gendry-Hotpie gets captured by bandits (TBWB)
I was disapointed of they did acted out Sansas final meeting with the hound. In short the hound just wasn't crazy enough. I wanted his outburst-moodchanges. (where was the sobbing!!!)

i had the same question regarding the stark kids as well. at this rate they are producing the series, arya is going to be 20+ irl playing a tween. let alone bran and rickon. some actors could be replaced, but arya and bran seem too important

lol yeah. in some cases it just becomes ridiculous. i remember thinking that at the end of the harry potter movies, the characters fit their roles better on the train platform in the future than portraying highschoolers. harder to do for the kids though, which arya, bran, rickon, tommen are still in the books.

Considering the season finale is called "Three Blasts" we probably have a pretty good idea what the cliffhanger will be: the Others attacking the Fist of the First Men.

The worst is gonna be Bran, when he's like 6 feet tall riding on Hodor's back.

Some non book readers (and one fairly prominent reviewer) seemed to think that the Hound's refusal to fight had little to do with the fire and more to do with him just deciding "fuck it, this kingdom isn't worth it" or having an alcoholic's moment of clarity. After thinking about it some... even in the books the fire seems to be a trigger to his actions rather than the entire reason why he deserts. From tyrion's POV it seems like fire is the entire reason why he deserts but that's just Tyrion's opinion... the Hound the books was more complex than "fire bad." It certainly makes him afraid and freeze up during melee tournaments but later on he's certainly capable of fighting against a flaming sword when his life is on the line - but he won't risk the fire for Joffrey. Sure, he's forced to fight Beric and clearly the fire is causing him issues and he cries at the end but I don't think it's the entirety of why he flees king's landing.

How anyone could possibly think Dany's arc in the third book is pointless is beyond me. Her battle against the slavers is everything about her.
People just want her to be in Westeros fucking shit up already, as if they know the story Martin is trying to tell better than he does. Have these people ever considered that maybe what she's doing in the east is just as important as what she will do when she reaches the Seven Kingdoms?

The last episode isn't called "Three Blasts," I don't believe. There is a piece of music in it named "Three Blasts."

the last episode is called "Valar Morghulis" .. did arya even get the coin?

From imdb:
"As Theon stirs his men to action, Luwin offers some final advice. Brienne silences Jaime; Arya receives a gift from Jaqen; Dany goes to a strange place; and Jon proves himself to Qhorin"
I think's it's pretty clear what'll happen

As opposed to now, where she's going to run into Khal Jhaqo solo and be lucky if she gets sold into slavery? What a crock of shit. She's right back to square one. Having a rag tag plague ravaged army is no different than a rag tag half-starved Khalasar.
Wow, Dany doesn't like slavers. Big surprise. Epic amounts of development for her there. She sleeps with another random Asiatic barbarian dude. Oh, haven't seen that one before! She marries some guy for political reasons. Oh, that's new for her too! She cares about her people. She's the mother of mothers blah blah. How anyone could possibly think Dany's done jack shit since her dragons were born is beyond me.
|
Well to be fair, the only things she did of her own originality so far was sleep with Khal Drogo and get all of her immediate family killed. Also hatched some dragons.

Does anyone think Brienne will cut off Jaime's hand based on that description?

It's not pointless, it's actually quite important. The problem lies in the fact that it's too damn long, and she's STILL in slaver's bay when she should be going to the seven kingdoms or asshai.

They are going to start having to go far out of character soon enough. In fact, you could argue they already did when Jaime killed his cousin. I could see them having Brienne take his hand... him realizing his mortality and less than perfection... and Brienne falling for him after he comes down to Earth.
