I kind of feel like we were originally supposed to dislike Darrel as well, but then he turned out being the most popular character in season 2.
I just hope that they don't do something stupid like have Merle come back as The Walking Dead's version of Resident Evil's Nemesis.
Yeah I really really doubt you'll have to worry about that sort of a comeback for him. There is one specific role from the comic I could see him filling (as one of the living).

It seems like a great of posts in this thread are like "the writers did this which doesnt make complete sense, making them bad". Who cares!!!! Just enjoy the show for its plot and character progression!!
You're right, people who want more zombies/deaths are going to be disappointed repeatedly and need to change their expectations of what this show is trying to do. The problem is, if you've been watching for the plot and character progression then it is a) moving on at a snails pace this season, and b) has done very little to develop any character other than Daryl. I'm glad they finally discovered what is in the barn, it should create the necessary tension between the two groups to actually make for some compelling scenes.
Please forgive all of us for wanting zombies in a TV series that is based around a post-apocalyptic scenario involving a zombie epidemic.
But seriously this last episode wasn't all that bad. I'm actually excited to see the next episode instead of just watching the next episode in hopes that it doesn't suck as badly as the last.
I'm just saying you are expecting something that the heads of the show didn't necessarily set out on delivering every week. As people have said over and over again the premise of the show is the human drama created within the setting of the zombie apocalypse. The interactions between the characters move the show forward most of the time, not the characters' interaction with the zombies.
I can understand people who complain that the drama element of the show is lacking and that the producers aren't delivering in that aspect. I cannot understand people who complain saying "WTF I want more zombies!! More action!!" because they should have known that a constant level of zombie attack scenes isn't what the show was claiming to be delivering every single week.
Maybe you can complain that the people marketing the show week to week are misleading you but I don't think that's the case at all. What we've seen in the previews and from interviews with the people making the show has mostly aligned with the final product we're watching. This show has faults, but in this respect the fault lies with the people with misplaced expectations, and not the TWD and it's producers.
Putting aside the terrible dialogue, character growth, plots, and drama elements for a minute...
That's hardly the issue. The issue is the fact of how scarce the action has been. Look at this from the perspective of someone who hasn't read the comics. AMC sold this show to the common "uneducated" viewer as a show about people surviving a zombie epidemic. That usually entails some sort of desperation. People struggling to survive constantly living in fear. The list goes on and on as to what one person would expect.
Heck even this trailer for season 1 really shows it.
So did season 2's.
They are selling the viewer a show that gives you those things. It's just not. The whole farm house side plot has completely removed those elements. I don't believe the survivors are in any sort of trouble. It's just that bad. They are all safe and cozy. Now you can argue all you want that it's in the comic and the show can't be about ACTIONS AND ZOMBIES!!!1111one all the time, but it's just not good for TV. Especially in a series like this, a series where people are expecting just that, zombies and action.
The ratings speak for themselves with the season premium breaking viewing records and then the following episodes dropping off in viewers and in overall show ratings. (Even though it still leads in viewers)
The interviews are irrelevant too, not everyone wants to take the time to watch the interviews of the cast and directors. Myself included. You really need to look at this from a viewer who ONLY watches and has watched the TV series.
I should mention that I'm really just playing Devil's Advocate here and my previous post was somewhat sarcastic. But given the decent reply you took the the time write up, I figured I'd return the favour.
Personally I don't mind the show but as I said in my post the threat factor is just gone. I'll continue watching in hopes it gets better because I'm a trooper like that. I'm REALLY hoping this season picks up with the whole barn house thing.
However I don't understand how no one didn't notice the farm was full of zombies in the first place. Consider how much noise they were making when they were pounding on the doors. But I've learned not to apply too much logic or reason to this series.
lol and I thought I was playing the role of the devils advocate. I'm another person that is pretty dissatisfied with the show but not for the "not enough zombies/action" reason. I'd agree with you that the pacing has left something to be desired, but my main gripes are that most of the characters feel very hollow and the writing in general has been very poor.
You are actually right though as far as expectations go though. I'm not the typical TV viewer in that I'm very discerning about what I take the time to follow and I do a lot of reading/require a lot of recommendations before I start watching a series. I don't channel surf. So have little sympathy for those who do and don't read into what they're watching before they get invested. Yeah I know I'm in the minority but still those complaints are falling on deaf ears here. Now that I look at it from your standpoint though, I do understand it a bit.

This pretty much sums up exactly where I am regarding watching the show lol

It really depends on what the rules are with the zombies (which I feel the show has done a really poor job explaining). In the comics they are very slow moving, sometimes bordering on being completely docile/not moving at all, so it would be plausible. Going by the recent interpretation on the show of the school zombies though I can't imagine those things not beating the hell out of the doors and creating a ruckus. In the comic they hardly waste any time keeping it a secret, thus avoiding this question. At this point with the show I've looked past so many other faults this hardly bothers me anymore. I'm just clinging on for dear life because I think the next arc in the story could be awesome even if it is only half as good as the comics.
to the ppl complaining they want more zombies, trust me you'll get more zombies. aside from some major character differences, their following the comic pretty well.

lmao I guess I should pay better attention to your posts. I actually thought you were a hardcore fan who liked the show as is. (Minus the drama being somewhat terrible.) At least we can agree on some things.
If a series captivates me enough I put in all that extra effort to know everything about it. Like BS:G, and Breaking Bad. But I dunno the character development has been so dreadfully weak that I have almost no interest in getting to learn more about the characters or series outside of the episodes played on TV.
I hope this series picks up because in theory it could be an amazing show.
Dale, Daryl and Glen are the best characters imo. They all do great things, but unfortunately don't always get the praise they deserve. Especially Dale, since whenever he helps people, they just get pissed off.
lol i dunno y, but when i see animals (any) being hurt i feel immensely bad for them. the chickens getting their feet broken kinda reminded me of s1e1 where rick's horse got eaten
anyway random off to finish episode
edit: another meh episode also just saw this post

this imo makes nooooooooooooooooooo sense to me wtf. for her to run off, get turned into a walker, walk into/out of the barn in middle of the short period of time where they go search for her and carl gets shot/ group stays at farm would be such a small window of time for this to be logical lol. anyway hopefully this will pick up after the mid season break and cruise into the prison part
I was expecting a zombie barn out break but I guess it didnt happen. Oh well....and that shane and andrea thing, saw it coming. Now they are going to die. Those that have sex will die. It a simple formula that for shadows horror series. My guts telling me that Andrea, Shane, Glen and Maggie are candidate to die this season. My money is on Shane because he becoming an asshole and his dark side will get revealed. Andrea and Maggie are both girls and Glen is asian so they need them to keep diversity.
this show is starting to drag out and get boring, they can do all the farm "drama" that happens every episode in less than half the time. The twists like the woman being pregnant or zombies in the barn really isn't that interesting.. :| How is this supposed to compete with other shows like breaking bad or dexter which move at 10 times the pace
next week there better be some action...I'm actually starting to believe this show is going way to slow pace... the attack at the store was predictable. The zombies in the barn... oh..they got fed. ...the housing developement...who cares...
RV guy calling out Shane... Is a joke. That guy has a thing for Andrea and I have no fucking idea why... RV guy (i can't think of his name atm but I should know it) Is annoying...I don't like him.

more or less a different way of the show displaying the andrea/dale relationship from the comics
Shane is a man-whore, lol the last episode proved that as well. Also Andrea isn't too... attractive... but if there's no one else, go for it Shane...
This season is starting to see more traction, and Rick also finding out about finally about what's been going on kept me intrigued. But still boring...
The Glen zombie killing scene and the emotions that it tried to stir up surrounding it was entirely ruined for me by the Shawn of the Dead-esque guitar riffs that played as he swung the shelf. Make up your mind amc, horror/drama or not? Because that was not horror/drama, that screamed "ZOMBIE SLAYING ACTION!!!!" to me.
Also, was that not the same setting as the sexcapade? It seemed like it. Didn't really make sense to have them attacked in the store to me. They showed no zombies in the previous trips the two made and showed no hints of any zombie activity leading up to it. I find it hard to believe he just wandered into the furthest corner of the store. Maybe he likes TWD tv zombies like watching when given the opportunity and will skip an easy meal. Again, it was like they were going for a cheap scare by lulling you into a false sense of security (though the cinematography leading up to it made it clear something was going to happen) at the cost of an world I can really believe.
That's pretty much all I have to complain about this episode. Overall it was okay, but it didn't evoke much emotion from me either.
Oh except for the Shane/Dale exchange. That scene had some real life to it. The fear that Dale had after Shane threatened his life was very palpable.
This season really has me confused as a viewer whether I should take my critical eye to each thread of the series, or rather to bask in the zombieland in a more entertaining light. The fact that the show is on AMC might be distorting the positives of the show because I expect something very very polished that aims for highbrow. Maybe I should be expecting a rougher-cut diamond than the lustres of Breaking Bad and Mad Men.

Although I liked Shane's part, I felt Dale's was really forced. He just seemed like an obsessive dad, he could have easily said everything he did calmly. Just didn't seem like his character to suddenly get that pissed off. Especially since if he actually felt Shane was that kind of a person, a hostile reaction would have been the obviously conclusion. I mean comon, old man in the fringe of the group vs the former leader/current second in command/gun expert. Did he really think he could intimidate Shane into leaving?
Disliked a lot of the other character's interactions too, I mean Dale sympathizing with Hershel about the zombies.
Maggie VOLUNTEERING to pick up supplies, then getting pissed off and saying they sent her to die.
Rick taking everything with Lori way too well.
Honestly the last episode felt like it was leading up to something, this episode felt so anti-climatic with respect to all of the things that were involved.
