Watch the opposing team's heroes when you pull, notice what they can actually do and at what cost.

You usually don't creep pull solo unless the lane is really far out and impossible for you to farm. In duo/trilane it lets the support get levels/gold without taking it away from the carry. Also, lane creeps that die to neutrals do not give XP to enemies, so if you pull a stacked camp or double pull, you can deny an entire wave of XP to the enemy. It also lets you manipulate where the creeps meet in lane, since a creep wave not being there pulls the lane back.

Obviously you watch your opposing heroes to see what's going to happen. Don't pull if ditching your lane partner will get them denied/killed, or will make you lose the tower.

Don't really know if this is the place for this, but where would one go to buy a dota 2 key? Ebay doesn't seem to have any, only a steam account with dota 2 on it, which I don't want.

There is another reason to pull, killing opponent tower. Say you have chen/chantress or furion in your jungle. You pull without stacking and quickly kill of the jungle creeps. This way you will have a dual wave hit the opponent tower, if you time it with a siege creep it does a lot of damage. Add on summons and a few creep clearing nukes and you can kill an entire tower using one pull without the opponent dual lane being able to stop it.

I do it as lycan occasionally - only when I'm forced to lane, then I self-stack and pull the lane with my wolves to make it safer for me, which gets a bit extra gold and helps me out.
For every battle honour a thousand heroes die alone, unsung, and unremembered.

I've recently had the wierdest creep pulls ever xD I pulled the second creepwave(0:30) and accidentally made neutrals stack(my lane mate said i should go pull, its pub so i went ahead and did it imidiatelly) which give some nice gold(playing bloodseeker) than i pulled(playing on scourge/dire) the bigger camp with sentinel creeps, and stacked that again o.O So unexpected that i nearly died since there was entire enemy creepwave and two big camps. If i did it well, I would be so much ahead xD(my lane mate was shitting all over the enemy lineup so i could do this crazy stuff.)

mouz.Trixi (<333) just played Nightstalker versus Na'Vi.
When and why do you pick that hero in competetive DotA?

When? Always.

Why? Great skills, good armor, good stats (HP). Slow and silence on a hero that can tank a lot and moves faster than anybody else on the map during night time. NS has the highest base armor of all heroes (as far as I can recall). NS is basically the best ganker in the game during night time.

The AM that game got 787 GPM. Was sad.

you forgot one of the most important things: Sight Range! 1200 during day and 1800(!!) during night. theres only two more heroes witth that much sight during night (meepo/enchantress). standard for 85% of the heroes is 800.

You forgot about Slark.

Drow also has 1700 sight range at night.

And Luna with just one point in her third skill!

Apparently Alchemist and Ancient Apparition also have1400 during night. Didn't know that.

Lyca with ult also 1800 nightvision. Some other heroes also have increased sight range at night, but not so much that it should matter too often. (I found roof and potm 1200, sniper 1000, leshrac 900)

(For anybody who's confused, Zlasher means Night Stalker)

With Aghanim's of course. 1800 flying vision is no joke. Scepter + Gem equals massive headache to deal with.

I just got a dota key from a friend. What has been the biggest setback for me is the amount of items and all of their active abilities.

Is there any item guides out there for a new player?

I have very little other Moba experience, (played a little LoL) But there didn't seem to be as much emphasis on actively using items in LoL, I know there were a few but It seems like in Dota nearly every item has an active.

Thanks for any insight.
Y'know sometimes people ask me y'know like "What's your religion and stuff?" And I'm like "y' know it's like RTS." Uh, and they're like, "What's that?" And I'm like, "Y'know it's kinda like, kinda like Buddism."

A great resource is http://www.playdota.com
Im not experienced with Dota but from what i gather, most of playdota is still relevant to dota2, including things like guides.
if im wrong then for the love of god someone please correct me.

www.dota2wiki.com also has lists of information about dota2 including items but I think they lack a guides section. Good Luck!
Call me Marge Simpson cuz I love you homie
