no team with envy as a captain will win anything

On August 17 2016 06:48 hunter_x wrote: no team with envy as a captain will win anything I don't really believe that. With EE, as far as I can tell, just needs someone to mother him, in a way. With him, you need a super calm player to keep him on track, focused, and not making any EE plays. I don't necessarily think EE would make a good captain, though. His drafting isn't the best and I don't believe he can efficiently motivate teams to tryhard play to their fullest capacity.

It's a pretty petulant thing to say anyway and it's made more hilarious by someone rocking a TL flair.

"Good captain" is a relative term, the only team EE has captained was top6 at TI4, after that had multiple podium finishes in international tournaments, although after taking in n0tail and Misery the team seemed to crumble internally going into TI5. I wouldn't exactly expect an EE led stack to win international events, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them work hard and be good enough to qualify for tournaments and post decent results. Sometimes people are so used to making fun of c9 that they forget there weren't that many teams in the world who did better than them.

EE is probably a fine captain but him in the mid position terrifies me
Like I just don't think he's the player for that position

It's sort of unprovoked no? Just a dig at EE with no context or reason.

The best piece of info about secret's implosion is Puppey's TI exit interview, where he said there were "too many cooks in the kitchen". Meaning that people were trying their own thing, not forming a single team identity or playstyle.
|
Yeah. Puppey, Envy, Arteezy and Bulba are all known to have strong ideas about how to play the game. Not sure on PLD. It makes sense that there would be a lot of disagreement in a patch with no clear "meta".
|
I think it's best for Secret that EE and Puppey part way. That way they can be free to do what they want with the team. Both want to assume the leader role in a team, and they have the chance to be good at it. I personally don't find EE to be a good Dota player, but I can't deny that he's very influential which is a key attribute of a good captain. He's the NA version of Artstyle, perhaps with a little bit better mechanic.

Pretty sure EG Wings DC (and Liquid too in regards to what they managed to do with 3 newcomers) have shown that one clear undisputed drafter is the way to go in the wide hero meta, and the team should rise or die by their drafter. I think RTZ can actually just listen mostly? So EE Puppey + Bulba used from coaching might be the issue

To add on to what to spudde said (and again only responding to you because you're asking), the irony of the Liquid flair is that Kuro has a history as a choker in high pressure LAN situations, and you can even see this in Liquid's results throughout the year--Liquid overall did worse than Secret if you look at pure monetary earnings, and the overall prestige of their results is at least comparable--Secret won a major and finished 2nd in another. They did worse at TI but had more top LAN wins (all in the fall though). They made about 50% more money throughout the season (2 mil vs. 1.3 mil)
edit: supposedly (and this is just hearsay), Bulba would argue with Puppey during drafts

One day EE will get the criticism he derserves but it is not today. Not only has he mentioned being happy to be relieved of the burden of captaincy I really wonder in what world you can look at EE's 2013-2016 career and call him a bad player.

I think at TI6 he was a bad player
