The threads on Reddit were cautiously optimistic whereas this thread is full of vitriol and mud flinging. Redditors is more civil this time around. its hard to be optimistic when the stuff they showed about the expansion did not address the fundamental flaws of the game. The only thing they will add is a few novelty that will keep the players playing for a few months max. They really have not given us a decisive plan on how to fix the economy, skill/rune system, and itemization. The new paragon, new dungeons, loot runs seem to add more content but if in the end the rewards are the same old items that made the game dull with just increased dps, stats, cc, cd, ias ... all these additions are just useless. And from the items that were shown at gamescom it really doesnt seem like they have fixed anything at all. There's good chance cc and cd are getting nerfed to be more inline with other affixes. Source: http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/1ktgv1/crit_nerf_incoming/ Does IAS need fixing? It's a standard affix in Diablo-world. Balance-wise, it's totally fine post nerf. Just tweaking numbers around skill/rune and stats such as cc, cd, ias does NOT change anything about the dullness of the items and does NOT increase any diversity at all We have seen a total of like 2 new legendary items and blizzcon is still on the way. The crusader flail looked more interesting with 4% cooldown reduction + chance to pull in and slow enemies. We dont know all of the neat little things they are putting on them that you are complaining about. the thing is that those are their showcase items at a fairly large gaming conference. you would think they would show inspiring novelties and their new ideas about the future of the game. And YET all they shown at gamescom were so underwhelming. The things you talked about does not change game play or diversity of builds because it wont affect any skills/runes. Thats what most hard core D3 players want: more build diversity and character customization and not just tweaking stat numbers around. Actually, the flail was not part of their showcase. It was found by a journalist. Others may crop up still too. They took a lot of suggestions from the community for legendary items, so there should be some interesting things on them. Also, cooldown reduction can create new builds (stack cooldown reduction and have a build that uses high cooldown spells, like a barb running call of the ancients or earthquake). Pulling mobs in can create new builds. Puzzle ring means you might sacrifice some other cool item for the chance of a good rare dropping after so many kills. Of course they specifically put that flail in there to show some new stuff. The item changes are step in the right direction but it's way too small. I'm guessing they have more in store for us, but they will need a lot of new improvements for me to consider buying this RoS pack. I got fooled by D3 once, and I don't intend to be fooled again.

Let's hope they bring Cain back to life for 3 quests before they let a fairydragon one shot him for no good reason at all, it will add to the suspense of things to come. This is just whine about some basic this gone horribly wrong, not to mention all the other fundamental flaws with items, how damage works, one rune to rule them all etc.

But really, ill wait and if significant enough improvements are made I'll strongly consider getting it. I'm not sure I can get over d3 having 4 difficulties though, it's just too tedious blasting through the 3 trash difficulties to get to the 'real' game.

It's not great and I am glad D3 doesn't have that. I recently picked up Torchlight 2 and play with 2 friends. We are currently in act 3 with level ~45 or something around that. I do not like the TL2 skilltree myself either, but it's not punishing at all. I play an Outlander and I just invested every single point in passives. (more damage and range, more elemental damage, more poison damage, more evasion, more dual wield damage and execution chance) The only choice I had to make so far was to go for either shotguns, dual wielding or neither. And I went for dual wielding. I would not be screwed either way. The basic attack from every class is already so powerful you don't even need skills. What I don't like about the TL2 skilltree is that besides the passives, I don't find any of the skills interesting at all. I don't see why I would even want to spend points in most of them, and why are some skills unlocked so damn late (D3 has the same problem). How can you ever be screwed with the TL2 skilltree?

They are the worst thing in Torchlight 2. If I want to change my skills, I do not want to play another 40 hours just to do so. D2 added in respecs, there's no reason why they wouldn't have them in the game now. Talent trees make the game much more interesting, the current way of having skills is terribly boring. How is a skill tree different than what you have now? Right now is a skill tree, except you dont need to put points into the useless abilities that you arent going to use anyway. See Borderlands for a skill tree done well, where every point gives some tangible benefits. Honestly, either can work just fine. I've played skill slot games that have a good system and I've played skill tree games that have a good system. D3...well, it's not working in current form. Borderlands skill tree is there in place of putting it on items. Things similar to armor, health on kill, thorns, life regen, attack speed, or reduced cooldowns/reset cooldowns. A majority of the skill tree is already on items in D3. Yeah, and some of the skills don't even do anything in Diablo 3. I mean, Bullet Ricochet with no bullets? But seriously, why are you even comparing the skills 1:1? It was just an example of a Skill Tree done well. Also, Diablo 3 also has Thorns, Armor, Health on Kill, Life Regen, Attack speed and cooldowns on skills as well...so your point kinda falls hilariously flat. I am just saying that the skill tree isnt nearly as good or interesting as you make it seem. It is great fun in an FPS just because there really isnt a comparable FPS... though perks in CoD can be similar (and no skill tree!). The ones in Titan Quest were fairly good as well, from what I remember. Don't remember many, if any, dead skills.

As for the infinite paragon levels I don't have any problems with that, if someone wants to play enough that they get incredibly strong so be it. It won't affect me.
