I don't know maybe I'm missing out and their loot table is better than elite but from what I seen I don't get better loot from Azmo than any elite packs. Has Blizzard ever publicized that bosses get better % drop chance or something along those lines? i dunno about you but bosses are much easier to read and have patterns. you can't really die versus azmodan/cydae and if you are, you probably should be farming act1/2. Whereas even with amazing gear, theres still an offchance of dying to elite mobs b/c of shitty arenas (walls, etc), shitty affixes, and their random movement.
Yeah and with Cydaea and Azmodan if you have enough DPS you can kill them in phase 1 of the encounter which takes like what, 20 seconds? And then remember they have the highest ilv63 drop rates and they drop roughly the same loot as 2 elites (I've had them drop 6 rares before). They literally are loot pinatas once you are actually geared enough to do act 3 smoothly. If you are actually having issues with Cydaea and Azmo I agree you probably will be more efficient running A1 or 2.

Anyone (monks specifically) know at what level of stats it is possible to comfortably farm the pony level? Atm I can comfortably farm Act 2 in dps build/gear, A3 is quite a bit riskier (even some white mobs). Seems like pony runs aren't talked about too much, wondering if they ate worth paying the admission fee.

i can't do it in dps gear comfortably. probably could do it if i switched to dodge mantra + hard target and equiped a shield, but that's just boring.
dps stats currently without any buff or follower: 34k hp 23k dps 700 res all 37 dodge 5200 armor 1700 life on hit

I know this has been covered but I found a pretty good concise article on farming Act 1. Excerpt:
Since 1.03 hit, this is one of the most popular Act 1 runs. People immediately began to start farming elites and this is by far the most efficient and lucrative run. With the change in 1.03 so that elite packs now guarantee a rare (w/five stacks), wasting five stacks of Nephalem Valor and repeating the run is simply not as efficient as pre-1.03. The video below highlights several areas that guarantee elites and have the highest elite density in Act 1. Act 1 is especially great, because there are relatively small areas with concentrated numbers of elites. These runs still normally culminate in the killing of the Warden and Butcher. The areas covered are:
The Watchtower (1-5 elites) The Festering Woods (2-4 elites) Leoric’s Manor (and courtyard) (1-2 elites) Cemetery of the Forsaken (and the Defiled Crypts) (3-4 elites, sidequest) Halls of Agony (lvl 2, 3) (2-6 elites) Cursed Hold (1-5 elites, Warden) Highlands Passage Chamber of Suffering (Butcher)

I once had a watchtower with I shit you not, 7 elites, a goblin, and a res chest. But lately they have all been 1 or 2 elites makes me wonder if they changed something.

Yeah, I had Watchtower 2 days ago with 7 Elites/Champs :D. Average there for me is about 3 though.
I'm farming Act 1 atm with my monk/barb (alternating between them since I'll play, say, the monk and think "this one is much more fun than the barb", then I'll play the barb and think "this is much more fun than the monk" :p). Basically the same places posted a few posts up, in order I go:
Cathedral Level 3 (port there and kill the rare next to/near the portal). Festering Woods (2 outside, 1 in each building, 50%ish chance of event, 33%ish chance of goblin). Probably 5 stacked now, so events that drop rares when stacked will now be done if I find them (originally I started with cemetery but I had to keep leaving to 5 stack for the event) and I'll go and kill any goblins that I find from now (assuming the damn Enchantress didn't aggro them :p). Check for goblin/pack in Old Ruins. Cemetery of the Forsaken (average 5 pack and an event, or 6 pack + no event) Check for Watchtower (port to Northern Highlands, run west and check midway up the edge, about a 50% chance of finding it and normally find a pack on the way, if not 2, average 3 packs, occasional res chest). Place where you get Khazra Staff, can't remember name :p (Moon Clan cave average 3 packs and res chest, check slightly east of the middle, either pack in the arena thing, a dungeon with average 2 packs, or a useless event that can be skipped, normally find 2 packs while running round to these places). Leorics Manor, and outside (average 1.5 packs). Halls of Agony 1+2 (average 4 packs). Cursed Hold, I'd mention the rare pack from the event before it but I haven't had it in the 20 so of these Inferno runs that I've done :s (average 2 packs, plus boss). Halls of Agony level 3 (average 2 packs). Butcher.
Normally get an average of about 4 goblins total each run (including the ones mentioned, just mentioned those as they're the most common places I find them) along with about 30 packs/events, 2 bosses and about 1.5 res chests.
I know this probably isn't the most efficient, but for me it's about the right length that I don't feel like I've just done an area when I go back to it on the next run, which helps a lot, for me, if doing a few runs in a row

I decided to waste the gold and upgrade my staff to give it a try... Wasn't too had. Ponies hit like a truck, but my sword n board hybrid ias/loh/crit/cyclone build cleared it without issue. 25k dps, 500 res, 6k armor or so. But still much less rewarding than Vota.. ahh well.

Confirming again on Watch Tower with 7 elites. Had 7 elites and a gob a week or two ago. Haven't had another spawn like that since lol

love farming act 2 vault of the assasin, easy to kite and plenty of them in there.

I did some act1 farming tonight, route and average mobs was this :
Leoric Manor 2-4 Festering Wood 2-4 Cemetery 3-4 Highland + Cave 3-5 and resp Northern Highlands + Tower 3-4
DH with 19 MS, Vault - Tumble and Tactical advantage, others wait in town and spawn on the DH when he finds elite. It's pretty effective it must be average 10 sec between elites.
Never done this route much before but from what I heard the Tower used to spawn more elites. Not one time I"ve gotten a pack in level 1.

I almost I'm afraid to say in fear of it getting nerfed, but I got a watch tower last night with 9 champs/elites and a goblin and a mf shrine. I had to tp back to town to sell before finishing it(and I keep nothing in my inventory, no swaps). It was one that had the event that you find the quiver or scabbard, I forget which, but I want to say the other watch tower that I found 7 in had the same event so when you get that event you hit the honey pot.
This was after running around a2 for 10m only finding 1 champion pack and said screw it and left, so I think I'll stick to act 1 farming.

any1 knows the farming route for A3?

Siege to Azmodan. You do all three levels of depths, stonefort, and whatever other zone you want to do.

if you like watch tower and can do act2 comfortably, vault of assassins is a better version of it (minus nerfed gold chest). Clearing oasis + desolate sands -> zoltun kulle is great.

At all.
I didn't think that was possible.

I like to do the fortified fortified bunker/armory/barracks as well. At least 4-5 elites + chest and chance of goblin

I tend to skip those. The dungeons are irritatingly long with long stretches of no enemies and if you finally run into an enemy and he happens to be extra health/vortex/firechains/reflect damage and kills you instantly you have to walk all the way back again.

So I decided to take my budget WW barb to the Pony level after getting 5nv real fast and found... 4 packs.. (and 4 rares with 0 MF :-(... I guess Pony level is completely skipped these days which makes moo sad.

I'm considering investing in Inferno Whimsyshire for my CM Wiz to farm. I think I've got good enough stats and if I can run it quickly, it will let me farm at Act 3 loot levels without all the hassle of Act 3 mobs.
